Search for 15-year-old swept off rocks in Avoca now a recovery mission

The parents of a teenager swept into the sea from rocks on the New South Wales Central Coast have paid tribute to their son as the search and rescue effort turns to a recovery operation

00:07when a powerful wave hit the rocks where he was standing with two other people and swept

00:12them all into the water.

00:13The two others made it back to shore safely and raised the alarm, sparking a full-scale

00:18multi-agency search which continued right throughout the day yesterday.

00:23But early this morning, police announced the search would be scaled back, saying they are

00:27treating this now as a recovery mission.

00:30Today, friends and family of the teenage boy have been gathering at the beach, supporting

00:34one another and laying floral tributes.

00:37His parents have shared a statement on social media describing their boy as the perfect

00:41son.

00:42They say they still can't believe this is real.
