00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at sections across the God of War series

00:12that beat us into submission with high difficulty, whether they were optional or mandatory.

00:36The Trial of Archimedes – God of War Ascension

00:48Without a doubt, the hardest challenge in God of War Ascension is the Trial of Archimedes.

00:54This is a group of three combat encounters, all of which feature highly irritating enemies.

01:00The first consists of Gorgons, which can stun and drain your rage meter, and Sirens, which

01:06can teleport and use electric attacks.

01:09The second comes with Harpies and Amazons, which team up for different ranged attacks,

01:14and is capped off with an electric Talos.

01:17Finally, the third is strangely the most manageable, with a Centaur and some Wraiths.

01:23However, every wave has the additional challenge of an arena hazard that restricts your movement,

01:28like fire and spiked walls.

01:31This trial is hard regularly, so you can imagine the dread you'll feel leading up to it on

01:36a harder difficulty.

01:42Cerberus and the Satyrs – God of War III

01:51As you'll see, a lot of the hardest sections across God of War deal with groups of enemies.

01:56And these fights naturally jump exponentially in difficulty when played on harder difficulties,

02:01so much so that they stick in our memories for the amount of punishment we endured.

02:06In God of War III, one of those fights is against a Molten Cerberus.

02:10This boss can set parts of the arena on fire, as well as produce smaller Cerberus seeds,

02:15which can explode.

02:17As if Kratos' health bar getting drained from all the burning wasn't bad enough,

02:21Satyrs also show up, flipping around the arena and poking you full of holes while you're

02:26trying to deal with everything else.

02:28Truly a nightmare encounter.

02:37The Path of Hades – God of War

02:45If you've played the original God of War, you know there's a certain section that

02:49is the bane of everyone's existence, no matter what difficulty you're playing on.

02:54And that section is the Path of Hades, which you're forced to contend with after Kratos

02:59is sent into the underworld.

03:01It starts off only a bit annoying – you'll have to jump between tiny platforms while

03:06dealing with enemies.

03:07It gets much worse when you have to walk across rotating cylinders with giant blades sticking

03:13out of them, while archers wait for you to get within range and load you full of arrows.

03:18At the end, you have to climb a rotating wall also with blades sticking out, and should

03:23you get hit once, you fall right back down to the bottom.

03:27Unsurprisingly, it made a lot of players seethe with fury back in the day.

03:41The Armored Cyclops and the Kera's Wraiths – God of War, Ghost of Sparta

03:50Here we have another group fight, and one that is more than capable of making you rage.

03:56Inside the Temple of Thanatos, Kratos will be confronted by an armored cyclops and a

04:00group of Kera's Wraiths.

04:02A big enemy with a pack of smaller ones is classic God of War, but these Wraiths are

04:07truly obnoxious.

04:08It's best to deal with them first while holding back on your combo finishers, since

04:13a stronger attack causes them to burrow underground, after which they can perform an unblockable

04:18grab that's detrimental to your health bar.

04:21The armored cyclopses are understandably durable and mighty, and a second one unfortunately

04:26spawns after killing the first.

04:28It can be an annoying fight, and on God mode, it's one of the easiest fights to lose.

04:39Going Berserk – God of War, Ragnarok

04:49In God of War Ragnarok, Kratos has the optional challenge of hunting down Berserker mini-bosses

04:54and defeating them in combat.

04:56There are 10 fights in all, and they're all varying levels of hard.

05:00Some are problematic because of elemental attacks, like electricity or Bifrost, but

05:06the most aggravating ones don't fight you alone.

05:09One can summon minions, another fight comes with two Berserkers, while a separate one

05:14comes with three.

05:16Then of course there's the big boss in charge, King Hrolf.

05:20Like Sigrun the Valkyrie Queen in the 2018 game, which we'll talk about later, King

05:24Hrolf is a combination of abilities from other Berserkers, just with more health and more

05:30aggression.

05:31Excellent.

05:36The First Final Fight – God of War

05:40Yeah, the original God of War can get pretty tough.

05:51And fittingly, it has what may be the hardest final story boss in the series.

05:56Ares proves he has more than earned his mantle as the God of War, something he doesn't

06:01give up easily.

06:02During the first phase, his powerful attacks can fill up a lot of the arena's space,

06:07making them hard to avoid and punishing you should you stand still too long.

06:12The second phase takes place inside Kratos' mind, where he must protect his family from

06:17evil copies of himself, which are talented in swarming you.

06:22During the third phase, Kratos gains a gigantic sword which doesn't have the power ups of

06:27his Blades of Chaos, and is better suited for defense.

06:31It's a demanding fight, especially on harder difficulty levels.

06:35Remember Kratos, it was I who saved you in your time of greatest need.

06:44I haven't forgotten Ares, I remember how you saved me.

06:48Klaatho's Corridor – God of War II

06:56Being God of War II, after defeating two of the Sisters of Fate, and on the way to

07:01the third one, Klaatho, Kratos must travel down a long hallway filled with seven waves

07:07of enemies.

07:08Naturally, since it's on this list, the enemies you fight here are some of the strongest

07:12in the game, and all appear in groups.

07:15Satyrs, Sirens, Gorgons, Minotaurs, Cyclopses, it truly is a gauntlet to get through.

07:22And the worst part is that, should you die, which you probably will at least once, you

07:27start over from the beginning, which is more than a little disheartening.

07:31If you've beaten this on Titan Mode, the hardest difficulty, you are a god among gamers.

07:45The End of the Labyrinth – God of War III

07:54Another brutal encounter from God of War III, this one takes place at the end of Daedalus's

07:58Labyrinth.

07:59It's a true test of endurance, being an excruciatingly long series of waves with some

08:05really powerful foes.

08:07Kratos will be confronted by Sirens, which can stun and shred you if you're not careful.

08:13Enemies with shields that basically require the heavy use of magic attacks with your Nemean

08:17Cestus to break through, and Minotaurs, which are big brutes that can understandably hit

08:23pretty hard.

08:24It's the waves that feature all three of these in groups that are going to make you

08:28want to pull your hair out.

08:30And on Chaos Mode, the hardest difficulty, this is impossible without multiple deaths

08:35that will test your patience.

08:43The Hunt for Valkyries – God of War

08:50After the release of 2018's God of War, the one new enemy type that populated conversations

08:56were the Valkyries.

08:57Nine of them were hidden across the game, and even the easiest of them took at least

09:01a few attempts to get used to.

09:04They were an evolution of similar mechanics, but a few of them were especially nasty.

09:08Kara could overwhelm players by summoning minions, Gondal dealt extra damage through

09:13fire-based attacks, Hildur dealt ice damage but was found in Niflheim, whose mist could

09:19deal constant damage after a time limit ran out.

09:22But of course, Sigrun the Queen became world famous for how many players she brutalized.

09:28Fast, unforgiving, and adept at some of the cheapest, unblockable grabs in gaming, she

09:33capped off a collection of infuriating combat encounters.

09:45The Challenge of the Gods – God of War

09:55If you haven't tried the Challenge of the Gods from the original game, count yourself

09:59lucky, because it is probably the hardest thing to do across the entire series.

10:05Unlocked after beating the game on any difficulty, it consists of 10 combat challenges that increase

10:10in difficulty and ability to make you rage.

10:13They all come with rules that make their fights harder, whether it be a time limit, a loss

10:18if you kill specific enemies, or, annoyingly, if Kratos is hit once.

10:24The final challenge, where Kratos must raise a platform by dealing damage, is a nightmare,

10:29since the enemies are Satyrs and Cerberus seeds.

10:33There are other combat challenges in the series inspired by this one, but the Challenge of

10:38the Gods holds nothing but painful memories for most of us.
