Heatwave conditions in southern WA to continue for most of the week

Those in the southern part of WA are sweltering through a severe heatwave expected to last most of the week. Residents across the state were trying to stay cool with some areas reaching record-temperatures.

00:09Hot, hot and hot.

00:10I wish it would stop.

00:16In the UK, all we have is cold and rain.

00:17We're all used to living in a hot environment here in Perth, but today is particularly hot

00:23and it will continue to be hot over the course of the week.

00:26In Geraldton, recording its equal hottest day on record, the mercury reached 49.3 degrees

00:33shortly after two o'clock, wind taking the beach out of the equation.

00:39That wind's pretty relentless, so we're just about to pack up and go home.

00:42Parts of Perth's outer suburbs reached 45 degrees, with a low of 29 expected overnight.

00:50Our minimum temperature is usually achieved between five and six o'clock in the morning,

00:54so it's going to be a long, hot night with temperatures mostly above 30 degrees.

01:22Usually across summer we do see about five heatwaves, with about two of them to be severe.

01:28Conditions are expected to ease over the weekend.
