The police administration building, ironically, the headquarters of the
00:04
Commission of Police, turned into an interrogation room for today after she
00:08
was interviewed by investigators into the ongoing SSA probe into the
00:12
importation of two sniper rifles for the SSA in 2023. This, sources say, triggered
00:19
an emergency cabinet meeting by the government. TV6 News understands that
00:23
investigators from the Office of Deputy Commissioner of Investigations and
00:26
Intelligence, Suzette Martin, approached the Commissioner and spent several hours
00:31
interviewing her this afternoon. TV6 News was reliably informed that the
00:35
Commissioner is expected to be detained overnight as the probe continues and
00:40
that Corporal Adrian Smith of the Investigations and Intelligence Unit
00:43
would have questioned the Commissioner. The Commissioner was questioned in the
00:47
high-profile investigation that has been ongoing for 10 months, less than 24 hours
00:53
after former SSA Director Major Roger Best was detained late Wednesday
00:57
evening by police officers at his home in Pinewood Drive, Old Town Road, Arima
01:01
after a warrant was executed there. Senior police sources told TV6 News that
01:07
they were investigating who had signed off on the documents to allow for the
01:10
importation of the weapons that ended up in the SSA. In July 2024, Prime Minister
01:16
Dr. Keith Rowley revealed the disturbing findings of the audit in a statement to
01:20
Parliament saying, shockingly, the audit discovered that the former SSA
01:25
Director initiated the procurement of high-grade military bolt-action rifles
01:30
complete with the most modern silencers and other accessories and the SSA was
01:35
engaged in training specially selected, questionably hired personnel in the
01:39
skill of the use of such weapons. The Prime Minister said he was
01:43
alarmed that the SSA by 2022 had ordered 100,000 rounds of ammunition and had
01:49
decreased the stock of firearms from 24 in 2016 to 103 in 2021. Mark Besant, TV6 News.
