Mired in the global COVID-19 outbreak, populations across the world have been looking to vaccines as a means to end the pandemic. But when the jabs eventually came onto the market in late 2020, another global concern came to the fore: vaccine access.

The UAE has been leading the way in efforts to protect its population from the coronavirus, with mass test and trace strategies introduced very early on, and a series of Phase III tests launched for COVID-19 vaccines.

00:00Since the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UAE has played a leading role in ensuring
00:05that its population remains safe and protected.
00:08Kicking off vaccine trials last summer, the UAE has also now made four types of COVID
00:14vaccines available to residents free of charge.
00:16Now the UAE is embarking on another mission.
00:19We've heard about it, and it's named the Hope Consortium.
00:23We're here at the facility here in Kizad, and we're going to take a look and have a
00:28tour of the facility with the people who are making it happen.
00:32Hope Consortium was an idea from, or initiative from, the Department of Health, where it gathered
00:39multiple parties from Abu Dhabi, the Emirate, and also international that would be able
00:45to support the end-to-end vaccine distribution and supply chain.
00:50The partners, local partners in the Hope Consortium include Etihad, Abu Dhabi Ports, Macta Gateway,
00:56Graffit, and SkyCell.
00:58They come together to perform a unique service, which is to move vaccines from anywhere in
01:04the world to anywhere in the world.
01:07The facility we're in today is the Hope Consortium.
01:11This hub here is the largest single vaccine hub in the region, with a capacity of over
01:16120 million vaccines, static storage capacity.
01:21If you assume that they move, say, 10 times a year, then that's 1.2 billion vaccines that
01:26can move through here during any period of time.
01:30We can carry all different vaccine types.
01:33We carry two to eight.
01:34We can manage minus 30 up to 120 million.
01:38And we have a freezer farm, as you see behind me, which has a capacity of 11 to 15 million
01:43doses at minus 80.
