00:05idea of using the country's nuclear deterrent to protect the continent in the face of threats

00:10from Russia.

00:11Macron, in a televised address to The Nation on Wednesday, described Russia as a threat

00:16to France and Europe.

00:18France is the only nuclear power in the European Union.

00:21Our nuclear dissuasion protects us, it is complete, sovereign, French from end to end.

00:29Since 1964, it has explicitly played a role in the preservation of peace and security

00:36in Europe.

00:37But in response to the historic call of the future German Chancellor, I decided to open

00:42the strategic debate on the protection, through our dissuasion, of our allies on the European

00:48continent.

00:57Macron's speech comes as EU leaders prepare to address the issues during the special summit
