A Lancashire man is under investigation of causing the death of a promising 10-year-old footballer killed by a car as she played on a sports pitch.

00:04dangerous driving after a 10-year-old girl was killed after being struck by an electric

00:08car on a sports pitch.

00:10Poppy Atkinson from Kendall died on Wednesday after being hit by the electric BMW i4 automatic

00:16at the town's rugby club shortly before 5pm.

00:21The man remains in custody and police said it is not thought to have been a deliberate

00:25act.

00:26In a tribute issued by Cumbria Police, Poppy's family described her as a force of nature

00:31who was too good for this world.

00:34An eight-year-old girl from Kendall was also hit by the vehicle and was taken to hospital

00:38for treatment, but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

00:43Players and coaches from Kendall United Football Club are said to have witnessed the horrific

00:47event.

00:48It is understood that youth players from the GT7 Football Academy, run by former Morecambe

00:54and Bradford City forward Gary Thompson, were also at the ground.
