Ex-Tropical Cyclone to bring dangerous winds, rain and storm tides

The Bureau of Meteorology says that although the ex-Tropical Cyclone has stalled it has started to slowly move towards the coast.

00:00It is expected to get moving and it does look like maybe if you squint you can see maybe

00:06a little bit of movement now. But yes, it is still expected to move onshore. Very slow

00:11moving system and as you've probably already spoken about, that does increase that risk

00:15of heavy rainfall over one spot with that system moving so slowly. So yes, still a bit

00:23to go with this system. We have actually just updated our severe weather warning to capture

00:29a bit of a convergence zone, areas where the winds are converging together and that's going

00:34to be sort of on the northern side potentially wrapping around that system as it moves closer

00:40to the coast. So we now have a severe weather warning that extends up towards, well, southern

00:46parts of Garry, Maryborough, even just south of Harvey Bay and that is because we are expecting

00:52some of those potentially strong winds but particularly the heavy rainfall right along

00:58that northern or southern part of the Wide Bay Burnet into the Sunshine Coast. But also

01:04not completely out of the woods for the south as well as those bands wrap around, we could

01:09continue to see rain feeding into particularly elevated parts of the Gold Coast hinterland

01:14and the border ranges and of course down over New South Wales as well. So yes, definitely

01:18the rain story still ongoing through today, probably going to get heavier as we move into

01:23later today and then overnight into tomorrow.
