00:00A regally bred son of Tappet, Tacitus has been on breeders' radars since his first

00:07graded stakes win.

00:09This year, the $3.7 million earner joins the stallion roster at Taylor Maid Farm.

00:14We spoke with Duncan Taylor about Tacitus and the many breeders who have stopped in

00:18to visit since he arrived this fall.

00:22Tacitus is such a royally bred horse, and he was a good race horse.

00:29He won, you know, the Wood Memorial, the Tampa Bay Derby, and the Suburban, and two of those

00:35used to be grade ones.

00:37Just got a beautiful pedigree.

00:39We probably could have stood him for more money because he's been so popular, but we

00:44wanted to make sure we got a good book to him, get him off to a good start.

00:48He's probably booked 160-some mares now.

00:51We're picking through the mares and trying to get the better mares we can.

00:56They've been very popular, and we've been really satisfied with the reception from

01:01the breeders.

01:02I think just pure ability made him do as good as he did.

01:06Broke his maiden as a two-year-old in the second start, and he won the Wood Memorial

01:11and won the Tampa Bay Derby, and he was second in the Belmont, second in the Traverse, third

01:18in the Kentucky Derby, so he was right there through the major three-year-old races, but

01:24he was a grade one-caliber horse, and a couple of the races that he did win used to be grade

01:29ones, and he just didn't win them at the right time.

01:32He was just a solid race horse.

01:34I just think pure ... He just had all kinds of ability.

01:43Tacitus' pedigree, he is linebred to unbridled, and that comes through unbridled song, and

01:51then Tabit's mother is by unbridled, then he's also linebred to Seattle Slew.

01:57The way he's bred with the unbridled and Seattle Slew, linebreeding to both of those, and they're

02:01both through a male and a female, so it's a very well-balanced pedigree, and then just

02:06the females in his family are unbelievable.

02:09I mean, when you look at it, you look Weekend Surprise, Narrate, Gainifacile, Crimson Saint,

02:17Best in Show.

02:18There's a lot of things you can linebreed to, and try to come up with some clever matings.

02:24Tacitus' confirmation, he's got the color, of course, of Tabit, but he's bigger, and

02:30he looks more like ... You can see the unbridled coming through.

02:33I think he's got a great big deep shoulder, and a good neck on him, and he's got enough

02:39hip.

02:40He tends to look more like the unbridled line, really, than he does Tabit himself.

02:46I think that we're really excited, and think he could be the great stallion.
