Scattered rains to prevail over parts of Luzon, Mindanao due to northeasterly wind flow, ITCZ

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Wednesday, April 2 said the northeasterly wind flow and Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) will continue to bring cloudy skies and rain to various parts of Luzon and Mindanao over the next 24 hours.

00:00The effect of three different weather systems in our country, the first is the northeasterly

00:10wind flow.

00:11The wind comes from the northeastern part of the island, it brings light rain and dark

00:17weather to the northern part of the island.

00:20Here in the southern portion of Mindanao, there is the Intertropical Convergence Zone or

00:25ITCZ.

00:26This is the line where the wind comes from the northern and southern hemispheres.

00:31That's why sometimes it rains heavily.

00:33For the rest of the country, there is still the effect of the easterly or the hot wind

00:38from the Pacific Ocean and it only brings slight rains or thunderstorms.

00:43And based on our latest satellite animation, we don't see any storm or low-pressure area

00:49that can affect our country until the weekend ends.

00:54Today, Wednesday, we still expect dark weather here in the eastern part of the northern

00:59zone due to the effect of the northeasterly wind flow.

01:03That includes Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Isabela, and Aurora.

01:08We expect light to moderate, with at times heavy rains, especially in the mountains of

01:13Isabela and Northern Aurora.

01:15So be careful of landslides.

01:17The rest of Cagayan Valley plus the rest of Cordillera region, we expect dark weather

01:22for today and we only expect slight to moderate rains.

01:27While the rest of the zone includes Metro Manila, partly cloudy to cloudy skies,

01:32and there is a chance of heavy rains or thunderstorms, especially in the afternoon

01:37until the evening.

01:39Our air temperature in Metro Manila is possible to rise to 32 degrees Celsius

01:44in some parts of the northern and central zone, while in Baguio City,

01:49the air temperature is only possible to rise to 25 degrees Celsius.

01:53For our countrymen here in Palawan, we expect fair weather conditions.

01:57It will usually be sunny, but it will be hot, especially in the areas of the central

02:01portion of Palawan.

02:02As we approach Visayas, there are some areas where there will only be slight rains

02:07before noon, including the towns in the eastern and central portion of Visayas.

02:12As we approach noon until the afternoon, the clouds will move towards Western Visayas

02:17and Negros Occidental, even though we expect drizzles.

02:22Our air temperature in Puerto Princesa is possible to rise to 32 degrees Celsius

02:26in the afternoon, while in Metro Cebu, it is possible to rise to 31 degrees Celsius.

02:31And for our countrymen in Mindanao, it is possible to see storms in the southern

02:35portion.

02:36This is the effect of the ITCZ.

02:38There is a high chance of rain early in the morning in Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi,

02:43up to the areas of South Cotabato, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.

02:48And sometimes, there will be strong rains.

02:50Be careful of flooding and landslides, even though the rains will not be continuous.

02:56For the rest of Mindanao, it will be partly cloudy and usually sunny in the morning

02:59until the afternoon.

03:00And then, it will be a bit hot or hot in many areas when the afternoon approaches.

03:04From dusk until night, it is partly cloudy to cloudy, and there is a chance of

03:08rain that will last for 1 to 2 hours.

03:12Our temperature in Zamboanga City and Davao City, it is possible to rise in the afternoon

03:17up to 33 degrees Celsius.

03:20When it comes to our heat index yesterday, the highest heat index that was felt here

03:25in Vera Catanduanes was up to 45 degrees Celsius, followed by Pili, Camarines Sur,

03:35These places that we mentioned had dangerous levels of heat index.

03:39While in Metro Manila yesterday, it reached 40 degrees, in Iapasay City,

03:44and 37 degrees in Quezon City.

03:47And for our forecast heat index for today, April 2, it is still the hottest in the areas

03:53of Luzon, including Dagupan City, up to 43 degrees, followed by dangerous levels of

03:58heat index of 42 degrees in Ibasambales and Vera Catanduanes.

04:03While for Metro Manila, it is almost the same as the heat that we felt yesterday for today.

04:08That's around 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for today.

04:11Keep reminding our countrymen to be careful.

04:15If you are going out, make sure that you have a heater, like an umbrella and a hat,

04:20and make sure that you drink a lot of water, especially in the afternoon.

04:26And for the location of our ocean, we don't have any gale warnings for now,

04:30and we don't expect any more gale warnings for the next few days,

04:33because we don't have a Northeast Monsoon.

04:36It is expected to be 2 to 3 meters sometimes in the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon.

04:42While for the rest of the country, it is around 1 to 2 meters.

04:46If there is a thunderstorm, it is likely to rise up to 2.5 meters.

04:51And for our four-day weather forecast, from Thursday to Sunday, that's April 3 to 6,

04:57there are areas on the eastern side of Luzon and Visayas where there is a high chance of rain.

05:02The high pressure here in Taiwan and China will move towards Japan.

05:09So it means that the wind that comes from the north will eventually move to the left or right,

05:16and then eventually the wind will come from the east.

05:19So there are areas here in Quezon, Bicol region, in eastern Visayas,

05:24apart from those in Cagayan Valley and Aurora, where there will also be rain.

05:28And it will also be cloudy for most of the day, especially in the mountains there.

05:32That is the effect of the northeast wind flow plus the easterly,

05:36even though the rain will not continue for the next four days.

05:40Meanwhile, we still have expectations of rain in portions of Davao region and Socsat Gen.

05:45By Thursday and Friday, that will still be the effect of the ITCZ,

05:49or the gust of wind from the northern and southern hemispheres.

05:52The ITCZ can be lifted by the end of the weekend and there will still be a high chance of rain.

05:58Not only those in southern Mindanao, but a large part of Mindanao will have more frequent rains.

06:04And sometimes it will be strong, so be careful of flooding and landslides.

06:08The remaining part of the country is still affected by the easterly,

06:11the central, southern Luzon, and a large part of Visayas.

06:15It will still be hot and there is a high chance of rain.

06:19If there is rain, it will last for one to two hours.
