Prepare for severe weather with the AccuWeather app

Chief Meteorologist Jon Porter showcases how you can monitor multiple locations of severe weather to keep you and your family safe with the AccuWeather app's notifications feature.

00:00Very dangerous weather across parts of the central and eastern United States over the coming days,

00:05with a significant risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes and flash flooding.

00:09A great way to be better prepared and stay safer is using the free AccuWeather app.

00:14And I'm going to show you the capabilities around the notifications today,

00:17because this is one of the things that we hear from customers time and time again

00:21that they love about the AccuWeather app.

00:23AccuWeather, on average, delivers government warnings faster than any other known source.

00:29That can give you extra time to be best prepared and stay safer.

00:32That's what we do here at AccuWeather.

00:34Here's the AccuWeather free app home screen.

00:36And notice on the top here, I'm over in Memphis,

00:38but you can tap on the location and go anywhere around the country and around the world.

00:44And many people add in the locations where their family members are located,

00:49maybe their brother or sister, their kids are located.

00:52You can add those all in here and favorite those locations.

00:55And if you do that, you tap on that favorite,

00:58and the AccuWeather app is going to ask you, would you like to receive notifications?

01:01Say receive notifications.

01:03Then you'll get those government warnings for that particular location.

01:06I'm going to go back to the main screen.

01:08And another way to verify that is you actually can go into the upper left-hand corner here

01:13and go into the settings capability.

01:15And when you do that, you can go under manage notifications, which is right in here.

01:20And when you bring up manage notifications, that's going to give you a list of all the locations.

01:24Make sure government warnings are turned on right here and also lightning alerts.

01:29Those lightning alerts can be very valuable

01:31and can showcase when lightning is detected within your area as well.

01:34See, it'll send a push notification to your phone just like that,

01:38letting you know that lightning is nearby.
