00:10Teams are always tight-lipped about this stuff completely until they have a deal done.

00:14Well, they don't have a deal done, but what I find interesting is he went on the record

00:19saying that, you're right, usually with Rostromusen.

00:22How about Metcalf working out with Rogers, which obviously would give an indication,

00:28I would say this, the understanding that I've had for the last couple of weeks is, boy,

00:33he was hoping that the Vikings would have a lot of interest in him.

00:36They have passing interest.

00:37The Vikings want J.J. McCarthy to be that guy, okay?

00:41I know he didn't play last season in the regular season.

00:43He only played one game in the preseason against the Raiders.

00:46He looked great, by the way, and you've got to give Kevin O'Connell, the head coach who's

00:50the play caller and quarterback developer, he did a phenomenal job.

00:54J.J. McCarthy, Scott, at this time last year, I was telling you, because it was true, that

01:00there were some teams that I talked to, just like with Bo Nix, who had late second-round,

01:04early third-round grades on McCarthy, and look, I'll give McCarthy credit.

01:09I thought that was kind of a reach for McCarthy, and still, he's not played the regular season,

01:14and they very much want him to be their long-term solution of quarterback.

01:19That's going to be the situation.

01:20Now, he had meniscus surgery, Scott.

01:22He had the full-blown repair.

01:24They're not going to know about how good he's going to look, A, until he gets into

01:28their off-season program.

01:29What I understand is his rehab on that knee has been great.

01:33They want to see him in April, in late April, right before the draft, to get their off-season

01:38program going a little bit.

01:39They can't really coach him in that, but they could see him move around.

01:42They want to see in the post-draft minicamp, they want to see how he looks, but the bottom

01:47line is he's their future.

01:48They've got a great thing going there with McCarthy, I mean, with Kevin O'Connell, and

01:54the job he's done, and Brian Flores, by the way, their outstanding defensive coordinator

01:59who should get a chance to be head coach again, but the bottom line is it's about J.J. McCarthy.

02:04That's why, by the way, they went in with one foot, not both, with bringing Darnold

02:09back.

02:10They had interest in bringing Sam Darnold back, but they didn't want to go all the way,

02:12and that's why Darnold wound up signing with the Seahawks.
