Is it safe to eat a runny yolk? Well, it's complicated. On very rare occasions, eating raw
00:05
egg yolks can pose a health risk due to the potential presence of salmonella. In order to
00:12
be pasteurized and ward off any potential presence of salmonella, an egg must be cooked to 160 degrees,
00:19
including its yolk. Eggs that are sunny side up, over easy, poached, anything with a runny yolk,
00:25
these have definitely not been cooked to the 160 degree pasteurization mark.
00:30
So if there was salmonella in the egg, which is again, a super rare instance,
00:37
then chances are it will pose a health risk. Again, this is on super rare occasions and is
00:43
a very, very small risk. I could never hate you.
