00:00I don't think I've ever had one of these before.
00:01Have you ever had a jury that you have?
00:03Well, no one's shown me.
00:05It's going to someone else's address.
00:07All right.
00:11What's up, InStyle?
00:12What's up, InStyle?
00:14And we're here to open some fan mail.
00:15Fan mail.
00:16Fan mail.
00:17Okay.
00:20I know what Penelope did to Eloise was bad.
00:23Yep.
00:24But she did it to save her and I love their friendship.
00:27Will they reconcile?
00:28From user LifeIsCool10.
00:30That's a cute name.
00:32I would tend to agree LifeIsCool10.
00:34It was horribly misguided.
00:35You shouldn't be a person that never tells anybody anything ever
00:38because then you make it all up in your head and then you go,
00:40but I thought that was a good idea to like kind of ruin your life to the Queen.
00:43No.
00:43Sometimes things can get a bit too terrifying where you go,
00:45the ball is rolling so far away from me now.
00:48I can't catch it.
00:49Penelope's fans, don't lose hope.
00:51It might be a bit of an uphill battle before we're completely back in the Daffodils.
00:54Oh, back in the Daffodils.
00:56That would be the name of our like album.
00:59Yeah.
01:00AA, always first into the dentist, first into exams.
01:04Here we are.
01:05Who do we think is going to be the diamond of the season?
01:08I feel like it could be a random debutante,
01:11but also I feel like maybe Francesca will be the diamond.
01:16Do you?
01:18Do you now?
01:19She definitely is an interesting candidate.
01:22She is.
01:23For the diamond or the sparkler.
01:27Who knows that the Queen is even going to pick a diamond?
01:29It's something that a lot of people are competing for now
01:32and it's something that a lot of mamas are also competing for
01:36and people are being trained to impress the Queen.
01:38They were anyway, but it really has become a bit of a sport.
01:42Francesca doesn't seem like the type of character
01:44who would want to compete in that sport.
01:47Brother, I should like a moment alone.
01:50It could be Cressida.
01:51I think it will be Cressida.
01:54I wonder if instead of picking a diamond at all,
01:57Queen Charlotte will take the Danbury role of matchmaker.
02:02Yeah.
02:02Perhaps she will take on the challenge of getting a wallflower married.
02:08Oh, wow.
02:10Lot of things to pick out here, Amber Brainwaves.
02:13So, first of all, you put me in competition with my mate.
02:16Don't put us in competition.
02:18You also do matchmake.
02:19She does matchmake.
02:20Well, this was my next thought.
02:21Thank you, Ruth, for that.
02:23And I wonder what show you've been watching.
02:26Harsh.
02:26Because I've been there.
02:27Have I not been there?
02:28Yeah, you've been there.
02:29I've been there.
02:30Oh, let's see what we got here.
02:32Nicola, your positive energy is infectious.
02:34That's very sweet.
02:35By the way, what do you mean you and Luke got to coordinate your spicy scenes?
02:39This is from Myrtle McGovern on YouTube.
02:41Intimacy coordinators.
02:42I think there's quite a lot of like mystique around who they are
02:45and what they do and what their purpose is.
02:47And I actually had some of that myself.
02:49I was like, is it like a dance routine where they're like, you kiss for three seconds and
02:52then you touch their hand and then you...
02:53It's not like that in so much as creating a framework in which you feel very safe, very
02:58respected and very open to do what needs to be done for the characters.
03:04So they're seen as is written.
03:06But then Luke and I had, we entirely chose what we wanted to show, didn't want to show.
03:11It was really empowering.
03:12It's so weird because it's before we filmed, you're gonna make me cry.
03:15Before we filmed this season, I felt very scared to do those scenes.
03:18And then they ended up being some of my favorite things to film and they were wonderful.
03:21So that's, that's what I mean by that.
03:23Go on Coughlin.
03:24Smashing it.
03:25One job at a time.
03:26Of course.
03:27Now onto my nudity scenes.
03:29When are your...
03:33Who do we think Eloise befriends this season?
03:40From user Capital Professional 2 on Reddit.
03:43Cressida Cowboy.
03:45People, I haven't seen much of the response to the trailer, but what I have seen is they're just fuming.
03:50Are they fuming?
03:51They're fuming.
03:52Yeah, they're like, what is Eloise doing?
03:54And I'm like, girl, I know.
03:55Oh no.
03:56And it's funny because I always feel the need to say that Jessica Madsen is a lovely, sweet, gorgeous person.
04:01Cressida, however.
04:02Yeah.
04:03What has been Cressida's issue?
04:05She's been on Penelope's ass since day one.
04:08She doesn't even know Penelope's writing that stuff about her, so she just has an issue with her for no reason.
04:11Eloise Bridgerton.
04:13The diamond.
04:15Perhaps now you might stop spending time with insipid wallflowers all evening.
04:19And refine your circle of friends.
04:21I may have no clue.
04:23I would rather die.
04:24She definitely hasn't made her life easy.
04:26Listen, Cressida's going to take down who she takes down.
04:30When she can.
04:31You know, there's so many times that we see a character in a certain way and we see these sort of,
04:36quote unquote, like, mean girls.
04:39Yeah.
04:40And to get a look into what it is that makes them that way is cool.
04:43We get to see a sort of softer side of Cressida as well.
04:46And I do think Eloise kind of needs to learn how to listen.
04:50And she has to with Cressida.
04:51Yeah.
04:52She's been very, very privileged with having Penelope just constantly listening to her.
04:56As then Eloise drags her out of rooms.
04:58Such a good story this season.
05:00I do, yeah.
05:01So good.
05:02It's pretty great.
05:03Thank you, Jess and Shonda.
05:04So good.
05:05How is Penelope ever going to tell everybody about being Lady Whistledown?
05:08Are you anxious?
05:09I'm anxious.
05:10From Sally, InStyle's Editor-in-Chief.
05:11I've been anxious about this in season one.
05:13It didn't go well with Eloise.
05:14Whenever anyone finds out, it's not like, oh my God, you are?
05:16That's slay, girl.
05:17In season one, she kept those two identities of Pen is here, Lady Whistledown is here, and
05:24never the twain shall meet.
05:25We're good.
05:26In season two, I think then she was like, I'm still really shy, but also I'm like weirdly
05:29slightly arrogant because I'm like quite famous and no one knows I'm famous.
05:32And then in season three, I think she realizes they're coming closer and closer together as
05:36time goes on.
05:37And she kind of gets that she can no longer just totally separate herself, especially
05:41because Eloise knows.
05:42And Eloise is going to be like, are you serious?
05:44Yeah.
05:45Let's see.
05:47Not enough cane.
05:49Not enough cane.
05:51In the book, Lady Danbury is always using her cane to poke people and swing around and
05:55make her points.
05:56There is a severe lack of cane-related shenanigans in the show.
06:02It gets used sometimes to make a point.
06:05It's been used to bar people's way and to cajole them along, but I don't think she's
06:10going to be wafting it about as severely as she does in the book.
06:13I don't know, a bit of pokery.
06:14Because frankly, if you let me do a bit of pokery and wafting, somebody's going to end up
06:19with an eye out.
06:20With an eye out.
06:21With an eye out.
06:22Let's have it.
06:23Let's have it.
06:24I am firmly team Kressler Redemption Arc.
06:27Woo!
06:28I just love complex women and female characters getting the same opportunity as men.
06:33Hell yes!
06:35I mean, yes.
06:36Yes.
06:37Yes and yes.
06:38There's no filler characters with this show and anything on like Shondaland.
06:41There's always going to be an exploration.
06:44And you could see it brewing even in the first two seasons.
06:47100%.
06:48You could see that there were...
06:49Pain.
06:50Yeah.
06:51Pain.
06:52You could see the pain.
06:53But also, let's be real.
06:54She's not just been like this since the marriage mark.
06:58There's something in there that's kind of made her that way.
07:01Jess was saying that you guys have assumed that it must have been something that happened
07:04like in the sand pit when you were kids.
07:06Well, yes.
07:07We do sometimes talk about it.
07:08We either say, Cresta has a crush on Penelope or that, and I think this in my head makes
07:13sense, is that Penn and Eloise were like really obnoxious children being like, we're the smartest
07:17and we're the...
07:18And Cresta was like, can I pay?
07:19We were like, no!
07:20Oh, wow.
07:21And then she was like, you're dead to me.
07:22I love the backstory.
07:23I think she's also been brought up to behave a certain way.
07:25I don't think it's necessarily that she thinks what she's doing is awful all the time.
07:30No.
07:31I think she's been trained that way.
07:33If you've got that coming at you at home and you can't give that back to your parents,
07:36especially in that day and age, where do you take that energy?
07:39To your peers.
07:40To your peers.
07:41Because she's, you know...
07:42Well, you don't.
07:43No.
07:44You don't do that.
07:45She isn't necessarily husband hungry herself, but her parents sure are for her.
07:49And the treatment in that house is not the best.
07:53Just need to be adopted by the Bridgertons.
07:55Oh my God.
07:56Can you imagine?
07:57Can you imagine?
07:58Spoiler!
08:01Could Penelope be picked by the Queen?
08:04Ooh.
08:05They did say she is looking for something new.
08:09There's a little scene in the series that is a very simple scene, is it not, Adjua?
08:14It's super simple.
08:15Because it is between you and me within a ball.
08:18And we are up on the balcony and Penelope Featherington makes her way through the crowd.
08:24And the Queen says,
08:26Who dat?
08:27Who dat there?
08:28And you explain, that's Penelope Featherington.
08:30I say, it's Penelope Featherington.
08:32And I think that's a beautiful, simple moment of the Queen and Penelope
08:36coming into each other's spheres without each other's knowing really what's going on.
08:42There is a quality that Penelope has of being the person who is invisible
08:47but always watchful.
08:49That I think Lady Danbury appreciates.
08:53That she sees that in her family, she is not of that family.
08:56She's had to make herself her own unique creation.
08:59So I think Lady Danbury loves a woman who goes out and shapes her own destiny,
09:03which is what Penelope does.
09:05So she'll always be cheering for Penelope.
09:09Oh, this is going to be tricky.
09:11What about Penelope and Eloise's feud?
09:14I imagine Eloise won't want Colin near Pen now.
09:17From user T Judges Girl on YouTube.
09:21I don't think she'd want him near end even before they fell out.
09:25I think that would really gross her out.
09:27It's just grossing her out.
09:28Also, I think sometimes it's like, if one thing's happened,
09:31it's sort of like, oh, and you want to bonk my brother.
09:34Yeah.
09:35I think it's like, and another one.
09:37She's not seeking a husband in you, I hope.
09:39No, I'm only helping her find one.
09:41Since when are you worried about Penelope?
09:43I don't think she's best pleased.
09:45But there is a parallel universe where she could have been like,
09:47I'm so proud of you for being Lady Whistledown.
09:49And like, oh my God, we get to be sisters.
09:51Yeah, Pen just handled it horrifically badly.
09:54Okay.
09:56This small clip says so much about Lady Bridgerton's character development
10:00in such tiny but important ways.
10:03Violet's reaction to her son's happiness,
10:06overjoyed that he is happy but maybe a hint of loneliness for herself.
10:10Oh, question mark.
10:12Having married off two of her children
10:14and marriages that are very happy marriages,
10:17it's like having a mirror in front of her,
10:19held in front of her to see that Edmund has left a huge hole in her life
10:24and that her loneliness has somehow increased.
10:26So I think that tentative step back in that direction
10:30and embracing life and finding some kind of companion
10:34might be somewhat on the cards.
10:36My husband and I had a garden.
10:40A luscious garden with many varieties of flowers.
10:44And when he died, the garden died.
10:47And I did not even think of the garden.
10:49I did not want the garden.
10:50But lately, without warning, the garden has begun to bloom.
10:56Do we think we will see more of Violet's garden blooming?
11:02Will there be potential suitors?
11:04She's certainly in the garden at the moment
11:08and she's sort of rummaging around and sort of...
11:13There's fresh compost on, I think.
11:14There's a lot of time dug in.
11:16The bulbs have been planted.
11:18Let's see what comes up.
11:20Now then.
11:22Can we get Lady Danbury a hot love interest
11:26who will worship the ground upon which she walks?
11:29Yes, please.
11:30Can we?
11:31Okay.
11:32Oh.
11:33Nicola recently said she is on Team Philip
11:36and called him Eloise's love interest.
11:38What can we expect in a love interest for Eloise
11:40from user Daisy and Bella on Reddit?
11:43They asked me this on live television
11:44and with no contact said,
11:45are you Team Philip or Team Theo?
11:47And I was on a show that centred around like Bravo reality shows.
11:51And I was like, I don't think I've seen whatever that show is.
11:53I was like, is it like Summer House?
11:54I don't watch that.
11:55And I was like, oh, Bridgerton.
11:56Oh, Eloise.
11:57I was like, Philip, I guess.
11:59I get a lot of questions like,
12:01I want to see Eloise like do her thing.
12:03I don't want, I know that, you know,
12:04she doesn't want romance.
12:05She doesn't want love or whatever.
12:06And I think because Eloise is so stoic
12:09and she's quite defiant in what she wants,
12:11that that means she is anti-love.
12:13Obviously what I think is nice is that in season two,
12:15we proved that that's not a thing.
12:16Just took a certain type of person.
12:18I just think all she wants is the choice
12:20to just be like, I'll just do it.
12:21That is such a good way to say it.
12:23Outside of the like sort of ritual of having a dance
12:25and meeting a fella sort of thing.
12:27Yeah.
12:28Having a dance.
12:29Meeting a fella.
12:30Having a dance.
12:31Meeting a fella.
12:32Having a dance.
12:33Meeting a fella.
12:34That's going to be amazing.
12:35OMG.
12:36Penelope's dress is in line with the Bridgerton colours.
12:38No more pink and yellow for our girl.
12:40They are so damn cute together.
12:42From Pandy Girl on YouTube.
12:43Aww.
12:44I might say something like that if you were a seater.
12:47Mmm.
12:50Well, that was rather direct.
12:52Oh.
12:53It's a huge transformational season for Penelope
12:55and I think what I really love about how they've written it
12:57is that she has this aesthetic transformation in episode one
13:00but you realise pretty instantly that she's not done any inner work.
13:04So she's saying, well I will put on this dress
13:06and then I will become confident and I will find a husband immediately.
13:08And you're like, I don't think maybe that won't happen.
13:11That's from my mum.
13:14Okay, I am just excited to actually see Francesca.
13:18Who is she?
13:19What is she like to do?
13:20How does she feel about the marriage market?
13:22What are her sibling relationships like?
13:24We'll finally get to learn things about her.
13:26She's such a good character.
13:27She is.
13:28I mean, all of the characters are.
13:30But when I got the part and I read that book
13:33and found out that that was a story that I was going to have to tell,
13:36I'm like, oh my God, I can't even be entrusted with this.
13:40It's kind of like life imitating art sometimes
13:42in the sense that I was new to the cast
13:44and she was new to the environment that she was going into
13:47and she's kind of observing everybody and working out what to do
13:50and I was observing everybody and working out what to do.
13:53I definitely felt like the overwhelm that Francesca felt.
13:56So there's probably days that I wasn't really acting.
13:58I was just absolutely fighting for my life on that set.
14:01Ooh, blimey.
14:03It was a long one.
14:04Good lordy.
14:05Oh, I get remitting it.
14:06Ruth Gemmell truly captivates with her nuanced performance as Violet.
14:10Hear, hear.
14:11Her proud smile speaks volumes,
14:13yet there is a discernible undercurrent of concern,
14:16possibly for Francesca.
14:17It's these layered expressions that make Gemmell's portrayal so profound.
14:21Did anyone else notice this?
14:23That's lovely.
14:24We noticed it.
14:25We noticed it every single time.
14:27Every single day.
14:28I have no children, but I understand pride
14:31and I understand concern
14:34and I think it's something that we can all identify with.
14:37Hmm, it's very human what you do.
14:39It's really truthful and human. It's perfect.
14:42And here's my fan mail to you.
14:45I just realised my name was on it.
14:47Yeah, there are a lot of them.
14:48Oh, wow, okay.
14:49That was great.
14:50Late to the game, thank you.
14:52Okay, wowza.
14:53I keep thinking Eloise could find a lot of happiness
14:56marrying a college professor.
15:01She'd be surrounded by academics.
15:03She could host a ton of dinners and soirees
15:05with other college professors
15:06and talk about the role of women in society
15:08or just soak up all the knowledge around her.
15:10Radicalise the...
15:12Radicalise the faculty wives?
15:14Wow.
15:15That's the name of our next album.
15:19Read her way through the college library,
15:22debate issues constantly.
15:24I mean, it's not a question.
15:27I think what you've done here
15:29is given the writers room something to bloody think about
15:33and I'm grateful.
15:34Okay.
15:35What do you think a modern day Penelope feathering she would wear?
15:39Ooh.
15:40At Lucy's Bridgerton on Twitter.
15:42I'm not calling it X.
15:43That's a dumb name.
15:45Sorry.
15:46No one calls it that.
15:47She would wear something really soft and romantic.
15:51Then there's a lot of beautiful Prada
15:53that's that really ethereal, beautiful, flowy stuff as well.
15:57I'm assuming she's got a budget actually.
15:59She does.
16:00She's rich. I'm fine.
16:01Yeah.
16:02And it is well. We're out as well.
16:03With that dowry.
16:04The Bridgertons are loaded. They're fine.
16:05Yeah.
16:06We're going to Prada.
16:07I hope you enjoyed opening fan mail with us.
16:11And thank you for sending it in.
16:12Now go and watch Bridgerton season three streaming only on Netflix.
16:16Lovely.
16:17Thank you my loves.
16:18We can do this.
16:19We can open a box.
16:20Yeah.
16:21Eight months Bridgerton.
16:22We can open a box.
16:23Ready?
16:24One.
16:25Two.
16:26Three.
16:27Ah.
16:28Letters.
16:30Beautiful.
16:32Why are we like on the Price is Right?
16:33Like.
16:34Uhm.
16:35Do you be singing?
16:36.
16:40It's a wrap it.
16:41No.
16:42Not the wrap.
16:43Somebody get the wrap it.
16:45.
