As the Windies ponder over who their next captain will be, Akeal Hosein is on a mission to convince Sunil Narine to return to the West Indies fold. Others have tried before, will he succeed where others failed?

00:00So is Akeel Hossein able to convince Sunil Narain to return to the West Indies team?
00:05I've tried it all, but at the end of the day, you know, it's not my decision to make.
00:12Sunil has given a lot for that badge and wore that maroon colour with pride and passion,
00:19and he's brought a lot of smiles to not only in Trinidad or any region or Caribbean,
00:24but throughout the world he has done, you know, tremendous efforts for the maroon.
00:30So I think it's up to him if he decides, you know, he's coming back or if he decides that chapter is closed.
00:35Hossein, who has taken inspiration from bowlers like Narain, indicated he intends to play well into his 30s.
00:41I guess I would say coming up with a couple other type of deliveries and also working along the lines of
00:48who I think is the best spinner in the world, Sunil Narain.
00:51So just picking his brains, trying to understand, you know, how could I get better?
00:55How could I handle certain situations and approach certain players and matches as well?
01:01So it's just trying to continue to learn from the best.
01:04Being creative has played a big part in Hossein's success after switching his bowling style as a result of an injury.
01:10When I was younger, I bowled Chinaman before.
01:14And due to an injury, I had to revert to whatever could have worked at that particular time while I was nursing my shoulder.
01:23So that's why I switched over to orthodox.
01:25And for me, it's just about it's just about trying to be creative.
01:28Now he is prepared to work harder to maintain his number one status in T20 cricket.
01:33I took a little bit of time to, you know, reflect and understood, you know, what achievement I have accomplished.
01:40But with that being said, it also brings a little bit of pressure because at the end of the day,
01:45if you're number one, everyone is coming for that spot.
01:47So definitely have to be putting in a lot more work.
01:51Hossein has enjoyed most of his success at home with 46 of his six day wickets in T20 cricket coming in the West Indies.
01:59He's aiming to improve on his stats abroad by studying batsmen and assessing the pitches they play on.
02:05And he's also working on his batting.
02:07I would have loved the opportunity to bat higher.
02:09But with that being said, you know, jumping into T20 cricket and you have the likes of Pollard and the Villiers
02:15and those guys on your team, you're not going to get an opportunity to bat early.
02:19But I do, I do appreciate, you know, every opportunity that I get to go on bat early.
02:26I wish it could be something that is frequent for me.
02:29He looks to be a key player in what's being described as a new era of West Indies cricket.
