‘We’ll Continue Holding Their Feet To The Fire’: Tammy Baldwin Pledges To Fight GOP Budget Bill

00:00Thank you. So good afternoon. I am here to speak on behalf of the nearly 14 million Americans

00:10whose health care is on the chopping block right now in this bill. Republicans are advancing a

00:17plan to take away care from millions of working families so that the super wealthy can get

00:23richer. So big corporations, many of which we know jack up the costs of health care and drugs

00:29in the first place, don't have to pay their fair share. These are giveaways for their

00:36wealthy friends at the cost of Americans' health and their lives. That's the deal.

00:43While Republicans squabble over just how many Americans they're willing to kick off their

00:49insurance, we'll continue holding their feet to the fire. Who will pay the price so rich

00:57folks can get richer? A single mom who has two jobs and no time for extra paperwork? A working

01:05family who can only afford their coverage thanks to the marketplace tax credits? Rural hospitals

01:12that depend upon Medicaid to keep their doors open? All these Americans' health care and

01:19more are on the chopping block so that big corporations can become more profitable.

01:26The truth is, Republicans know this is unpopular. We are watching them outright lie to their constituents

01:34about what their bill actually does. We are watching them hide from their constituents and

01:41try to tell people not to believe their lying eyes.

01:45Today's latest proof point comes from the president himself. He sees the writing on the wall. He said

01:55to House Republicans earlier today, and I paraphrase, don't F around on Medicaid.

02:02Welcome to the party, Mr. President. I pledge to work with anyone to do right by Wisconsin,

02:10Wisconsin, and I welcome the president's sudden epiphany. I hope President Trump, for once,

02:17uses his iron grip over Republicans to help and not hurt Americans and not gut Medicaid. If not,

02:29these cuts to Medicaid are his legacy, and he owns that. The issue is not going away quietly into the night.
