00:00The Scottish Cup final ramifications, well expected that Celtic would beat Aberdeen

00:04and that would obviously be plentiful for Hibs and scoop them at an automatic league

00:09face spot in either the Europa League or the Conference League.

00:13Aberdeen won in pretty dramatic circumstances at Hampden.

00:17How do you view it from a Hibs point of view?

00:19Because it's obviously out with Hibs' control to a certain extent, yet it still feels like

00:25a totally devastating blow that they probably weren't expecting.

00:28Yeah, I just think anyone would have really expected it if you looked at all the odds

00:32and every prediction was that as a pure football contest, Celtic, who should have taken Aberdeen

00:40apart, it doesn't happen that way, that's why we play the games.

00:43I know a lot of Hibs fans are, not suddenly, but are returning to the idea of, well, it's

00:48a lot harder to finish third than it is to win the Scottish Cup, so why should UEFA, you

00:54know, seed it in such a way that your third place team gets the easier ride and the guaranteed

01:00European football, while a team that's outperformed them all season effectively and finished third?

01:05Doesn't, it's a very clear UEFA trying to protect the domestic Cups.

01:10In other leagues over the years, teams just not bothering about the Cup because it's all

01:14important if they've got a top three or four, they get into the Champions League, that's

01:17the most important thing, most important thing.

01:19So you could have imagined it if it was, if there wasn't this place for the Cup, at some

01:24point in the season would Aberdeen have just, knowing they were in a battle with Hibs for

01:28third, they could have just chucked a team of kids out in the semi-final or quarter-final,

01:32whatever it is, and that's what UEFA are trying to avoid.

01:36Mercifully, we've ditched the almost forgotten practice of awarding the Cup winner's place

01:44to the Cup runners-up, which was always a real bugbear.

01:50And we had some wacky European teams because of that, teams that got themselves through to

01:56a Cup final, were taken apart by Celtic or Rangers or whoever it was.

02:00The good news is, the Hibs, they would have expected it, but they weren't banking on it.

02:06That's just the way they are.

02:07You know what David Gray's like, he's not going to get carried away.

02:10He's Mr. Control the Controllables, he would have had a plan A and a plan B, and knowing

02:16him as plan A was probably Aberdeen winning the Cup.

02:19And we're back in pre-season for this, and we're in this round, and we're in that round.

02:24Everyone knew what it was like at the start of the season, everyone knew the rules.

02:28You just wouldn't have put money on Aberdeen winning the trophy, you know, for the first

02:35time in 35 years, which kind of puts it in perspective.
