00:00Hi, I'm Carly, and this is my crazy story.
00:03Before I continue, please like and subscribe.
00:06I was born to a single mom who worked very hard to raise me
00:09and my twin sister, Blake.
00:11Blake was born with a rare condition that impacted her
00:13kidneys, and she was always sick.
00:15Since mom was busy juggling things at home and work,
00:18it was my duty to look after Blake.
00:20You can't eat milk with your hands.
00:22Drink it.
00:23Blake, don't chew on your gross shoes.
00:26Then mom was extra paranoid about Blake,
00:28and she hardly paid attention to me.
00:30Like this one time when I was six,
00:32mom had to leave for some urgent overnight office trip,
00:34and she dropped us off at the neighbor's place.
00:37These are Blake's medicines.
00:38You know she drinks chocolate milk before sleeping,
00:41and I've also packed her favorite pink nightclothes.
00:44Wait, where's my stuff?
00:45The bag's too small to carry both your things,
00:48but hey, I packed your toothbrush.
00:49You'll be okay, right?
00:51I wanted to say no, but mom already looked tense,
00:54so I nodded and she left.
00:55Everything was going great,
00:57but right before bedtime,
00:58I went to get milk for Blake,
00:59and I heard a huge thud.
01:01I rushed to see Blake crying on the floor
01:03with a bleeding nose.
01:05Apparently, Blake was jumping on the bed
01:07with the neighbor's son,
01:08and he thought it would be fun to push her off of it.
01:10Thankfully, the injury wasn't big,
01:12but when mom found out, she went ballistic on me.
01:16Carly, I trusted you to look after her.
01:18And I did.
01:19I was just getting her milk like you asked me to,
01:22and she's okay, mom.
01:23Everyone falls sometimes.
01:25Your sister isn't like everyone else.
01:28After that day, mom banned both me and Blake
01:30from participating in any extracurriculars at school
01:34or playing in the park afterwards like other kids.
01:36I was always stuck at home with Blake,
01:38so I never really got a chance to make new friends,
01:41and those at school joined clubs and got busier.
01:44I missed having a normal life, but Blake needed me more.
01:47Mom got more paranoid with time,
01:49and took special care preparing food for Blake.
01:52I knew how tired she was,
01:53so I'd get by with frozen meals.
01:55And over time, I started taking comfort in junk food,
01:58eating candy bars from the hospital vending machines,
02:00while I sat in waiting room for hours.
02:03By 13, I was much bigger than most girls my age.
02:06One time, our aunt was visiting us,
02:08and she hadn't seen me and Blake in a while.
02:10Look, I bought you girls matching outfits.
02:13Go on, try it.
02:14Uh, I'll just wear it later.
02:16What are you saying?
02:17Come here.
02:18Aunt pulled me to her and tried her best to fit me into the dress,
02:22but it barely got past my neck.
02:23I was so embarrassed, I went to my room and didn't come out till aunt left.
02:27Don't be so sad now.
02:29So what if you're a little bigger?
02:31Easy for you to say.
02:32You don't have to wear clothes three times your age.
02:35You're thinking too much.
02:36Here, I got you these.
02:37Blake's health improved as we got older,
02:40and by 16, she was much better and put on medication to manage her condition.
02:44Soon after, Mom got married, and a year later, she delivered my twin brothers, Jake and Jonah.
02:49I was happy for Mom, but I could tell Blake wasn't adjusting so well.
02:53I want to pluck out my ears.
02:55They cry so much.
02:56I know for a fact, Jonah hates me.
02:58He farted and gave me the stink eye.
03:00That one's a devil.
03:01I knew Blake didn't mean that.
03:03She just missed Mom since she was busier than ever.
03:05And I tried my best to make Blake comfortable, but she was constantly throwing tantrums and
03:10hardly ever helped me take care of the boys.
03:13Jonah pooped his pants again.
03:14Quick, hand me a nappy.
03:16Ah, great.
03:17What's that?
03:18Forget it.
03:19Can you just warm up the milk?
03:20Actually, I don't feel so well.
03:22I'm getting a headache in my stomach.
03:24I mean, a stomach in my headache.
03:26You get the point, right?
03:27And when I asked Mom to hire a babysitter, she just gave me a lecture on money and expenses.
03:32My grades were getting affected too, and I was an overall mess.
03:36I knew it had something to do with my eating habits, so I started taking care of my health.
03:40I went for runs, ate better, and over time, I could see the results.
03:43One day I was jogging when I saw someone taking my picture, hiding in a bush.
03:47I caught him by the collar and dragged him out.
03:50What do you think you're doing?
03:51Um, I just thought you were pretty.
03:53I'm good at taking pictures.
03:55Here, have a look.
03:56Wow, that's me?
03:57I mean, ahem.
03:58Yeah, whatever.
03:59But you should be asking me first rather than acting like a creep.
04:03I get it.
04:03I'm sorry.
04:04Can I make it up to you with some coffee?
04:06Fine, but I want a copy.
04:08Deal.
04:09Eli and I went to a coffee place close by and hit it off instantly.
04:12And soon, we became good friends.
04:14He was into filmmaking and would always have his camera around his neck.
04:18Watching him, I got interested and tried my hand at handling a camera too.
04:21And it was love at first sight.
04:24Okay, so that's how you focus.
04:26Now look at that sunset.
04:27Beautiful, isn't it?
04:29Yeah, you know so much about the camera.
04:31It's really fascinating.
04:33I've always wanted to make movies, you know?
04:35And I love the ocean too.
04:36I'll tell you a secret.
04:37I'm part mermaid.
04:38Oh yeah?
04:39Prove it.
04:40Eli got up from the rock he was sitting on and started doing an awkward dance,
04:44flapping his arms like fins.
04:47Okay, okay, I believe you.
04:50Well good, because I was afraid I'd have to splash you with my tail.
04:53Really?
04:54That was on your mind?
04:55Well, that and something else.
04:57With that, Eli jumped down and pulled me in for the most magical kiss.
05:02Eli and I started dating soon after, and I decided to make him finally meet Blake.
05:07So the next time he invited me out, Blake tagged along.
05:09But the moment she saw him, she burst out laughing.
05:12Oh my god, where did you get that shirt from?
05:17Your grandpa's closet?
05:19Actually, yeah, he has a really good shirt collection.
05:22Do you like it?
05:23I can get you one.
05:24Ew, no thank you.
05:25I'd rather wear a tent than slip into something so cringe.
05:29Come on, Blake, that's not very nice.
05:31What?
05:32I'm kidding.
05:33I'm sure Ebola can handle a few harmless jokes.
05:35Eli.
05:36Blake made it painfully obvious that she didn't want Eli around.
05:40And even though Eli kept his cool, I knew she made him uncomfortable.
05:44Then one time, Eli invited me and Blake to the launch of his dad's new restaurant.
05:48I appreciated the effort he was making with her, and I hoped she would too.
05:52But I was so wrong, because minutes into the event, Blake threw a massive tantrum over pickles.
05:58What do you mean you're out of pickles?
06:00Pluck them from a tree or something.
06:02Would you please keep it down, Blake?
06:04Everyone is staring.
06:06So, you care about all these fancy people, but not your sister?
06:10No one understands me.
06:12I just had a very big lobster, and I feel like throwing up.
06:15You know pickles calmed me down.
06:17This is such bad customer service.
06:20Hey, you have pickles. And you? And you?
06:23And then she started taking pickles off of everyone's plate,
06:26till Eli intervened and dragged us outside.
06:28What's the matter with you, Blake?
06:30What? It's not my fault your party sucks.
06:33At least I brought some entertainment to it.
06:35Blake, let me handle this.
06:37Eli, I'm really sorry for the mess.
06:39But what? Your sister's not normal.
06:42And you are?
06:43You're so boring, if someone stole your identity, they'd give it up.
06:46Because it sucks.
06:48You really need to watch your tongue.
06:50And you need to watch your hands around my sister.
06:54Guys, please.
06:55Before I could say another word, Blake started hyperventilating and fainted.
06:59We immediately took her to the hospital, where the doctors told me that she passed out from
07:03anxiety and high blood pressure. Thankfully, she was out of danger.
07:07I'm really sorry about Blake, but that girl's out of control.
07:10You've got to draw a line somewhere.
07:12You saw what happened, Eli. You can't just scream at her like that. She's my sister.
07:17I can't be around her, Carly. This is going to be a problem.
07:21I wanted to stop Eli, but there was nothing more I could say.
07:24Blake was my sister, and she came first.
07:27I didn't meet Eli for a few days, and a week later, he told me that one of his movies that
07:31I'd helped him with had gotten selected for a local film festival.
07:35He wanted me to come, but Blake was still recovering, and I couldn't leave her alone.
07:39But when he came back, he told me something shocking.
07:42Everyone loved the movie, Carly. One of the biggest film schools in New York
07:46wants to take us both in, on full scholarship. How amazing is that?
07:51I... I don't know what to say, but I don't think Mom would let me go to New York, Eli.
07:56You're a great filmmaker, Carly, and you should give it a fair shot. And think about it.
08:00You could finally live your life on your terms. God knows you need it.
08:04I was numb for a second, and then I felt like someone gave me new wings.
08:09It did sound like an amazing opportunity. All I had to do was convince Mom.
08:14But when I told her, she looked at me like I'd asked her for her kidneys.
08:18Have you gone crazy? You can't move to New York. Your life is here, with me and Blake.
08:22I applied to this marine biology course on behalf of both of you, and you guys got in on scholarship.
08:28This was always the plan, and it's the right one.
08:30But that's not what I want to do. I want to make movies.
08:34I'm really good at this. Everyone says that. Everyone or Eli?
08:38Who's Eli? Just this dumb boy she's dating. I'm sure he's the one who's filled your head with this sawdust.
08:44How can you even think about leaving me? I just want to do what I want for once.
08:49Can't you give me a few years for my own life?
08:52Ugh, stop being so dramatic. And not another word about this movie business, Carly.
08:57You'll stay here with us. Is that clear? Mom left, and I turned to Blake angrily.
09:02You couldn't take my side for once? What did I do?
09:05Oh, you mean telling Mom about Eli? I don't think she even noticed.
09:09I left the room angrily and didn't speak to Mom or Blake for the next few days.
09:13I thought I could confide in Eli. But suddenly, he was acting really cold.
09:18Every time I tried to talk to him, he would turn the other way. Till one day, I finally cornered him after class.
09:24Am I imagining things, or are you ignoring me?
09:27Neither. I'm just busy.
09:29So? I told my mom I want to make movies, and she went bonkers. But look, Carly, you and your family have issues, and I don't want to get in the middle of it. Do whatever they say.
09:38But you told me to live my life. You said…
09:41Yeah, I did. And now I'm saying I don't care. You'd choose your clown sister over everything. I've seen that. So good luck, but I don't think I can be with you anymore.
09:50Eli, wait! Tell your sister she won.
09:53I felt frozen in my place as Eli walked away. And a week later, he left for New York. I couldn't believe he'd just dumped me like that. I felt so bummed out that I didn't come out of my room for days, and Blake was the biggest pain in the butt.
10:07Come on. We need to go shopping. It's painful to watch you in those pajamas. I'm not in the mood. But I am. Also, we'll have a nice lunch, watch a movie, just like old times.
10:17I said I'm not in the mood. Back off. Geez, why are you so snappy? Because of that stupid boy? He wasn't stupid. I loved him, Blake, and now he's gone. Because I chose you over him, like always. And you don't care about my feelings, like always. Carly, I… Just leave me alone.
10:37Blake left with a small face, and I felt kinda bad, but I was too mad to go after her. The next day, I calmed down a bit, and was about to call Blake, when her phone started buzzing like crazy. I picked it up, and I was shocked to see it was Eli. Before I could answer, the call got disconnected, and a text message appeared. I did what you wanted. Leave me alone. My mind went blank, and I opened the call logs on Blake's phone to see multiple calls to Eli. Suddenly, it all started making sense. Of course Blake must have changed.
11:07I've driven Eli away. No one hated him more than her. What's this? You don't understand. Oh, I understand everything perfectly. You asked Eli to dump me, so you and Mom could use me as your servant all my life, right? Before Blake could even say more, I pushed her out and slammed the door in her face. I started packing my bags and stormed downstairs, only to run into Mom. What's wrong? Is Blake okay? Yes, she's fine. But I'm not, and I haven't been fine for a while now. But you don't care, do you?
11:37Of course I do, sweetie. Why would you say that? Because you never have. Not since we were kids. Carly, I knew you could take care of yourself, and you were the healthy one, and Blake. No, Mom, I was eating my feelings, and you didn't even see that. I got back to being healthy on my own.
11:55And you've stunted both my growth and Blake's. Hers by over-coddling her, and mine by always holding me back to be her guardian.
12:03And now, I'm done. I will go to New York, because I want to get away from you and Blake, and you can't stop me.
12:11I left home and booked a flight to New York. On my way, I called Eli and explained everything to him. He told me that he was proud of me for taking a stand for myself, and welcomed me with open arms.
12:22We moved in together, and I was doing really well in my classes. Mom and Blake tried getting in touch with me multiple times, and even though I missed them, I needed my space.
12:30Eventually, they stopped calling. After graduation, Eli proposed to me, and I said yes. Life was going great, till one day, I heard a knock on the door, and opened it to see Blake and Mom.
12:42What are you guys doing here? Eli called us, and told us about the engagement. Carly, I have a confession. It was me who convinced Eli to break up with you, not Blake.
12:51Wait, what? Eli never told me that it was Mom behind everything.
12:55I didn't want to stress you out more. I could see you missed your family, and this would have made you sad.
12:59But I saw the call logs and the messages on Blake's phone.
13:03I'd actually been calling him to apologize, but I guess he thought both me and Mom wanted him to dump you, and I don't blame him.
13:09I was always awful to Eli. I guess I was just terrified of being on my own without you, but I drove you further away.
13:17I'm sorry too, my baby. I'd just become used to having you around, always taking care of everything, and the thought of you going away for college crushed me.
13:25I was selfish, and always burdened you with too much. I hope you can find a way to forgive me.
13:31Thank you for finally acknowledging that. It might take me a while to really forgive you, but I'll get there.
13:36I won't lie, I have missed you guys. Then let's start with a hug.
