Now, the council has paused all refurbishments to focus on urgent safety upgrades. Gas has been cut off, fire wardens are patrolling day and night, and alarms are being installed.

00:01Four council blocks in St Jude's Bristol are in urgent need of structural repairs,

00:06raising serious questions about safety for the hundreds of people who live there.

00:12These buildings, Charlton House, Havilord House, Langton House and John Cousins House, were built in the 1960s.

00:21A recent structural survey found that in three of them, floors aren't properly tied to the walls.

00:27That means in a worst case scenario, like a gas explosion or major fire, parts of the buildings could fail.

00:35And it's not just the structure. Residents have spent years complaining about the damp, mould and leaks.

00:42Some even buying their own paint to fight back.

00:46Now, the council has paused all refurbishments to focus on the urgent safety upgrades.

00:52Gas has been cut off, fire wardens are patrolling day and night,

00:56and alarms are being installed.

00:59Tyndall House, the fifth block on the estate, was also surveyed,

01:03but found to be structurally different and safer.

01:06Still, its planned refurbishment has also been paused,

01:09while the council directs resources towards emergency repairs on the more vulnerable buildings.

01:15Especially after last year's emergency evacuation at Barton House.

01:20While no evacuation is planned in St. Jude's, many families say that they feel left in limbo,

01:27unsure how long they'll be living in buildings with such serious issues.

01:31City Hall says that the buildings are safe to live in, for now,

01:35and that they're acting fast to prevent any risk.

01:38But, for tenants, it's another blow in a long wait for their homes that they were promised.
