Robert Jenrick calls on PM to sack Attorney General Lord Richard Hermer in latest stunt video
Transcript
00:00Why is it that Keir Starmer's Attorney General, Lord Hermer, represented all these clients?
00:05He says cab rank rule and it's a vital legal principle. Gary, what's the cab rank rule?
00:10It means the first cab of any rank must take the first customer.
00:14Easy. And it's the same for many lawyers.
00:16Criminal barristers can represent people accused of horrific crimes
00:20because everyone knows they had to take the case.
00:23What's true for our criminal barristers just wasn't true for Lord Hermer.
00:27He was a top human rights lawyer. He would have been inundated with cases,
00:31able to choose the pick of the bunch. And what's more, he often worked on a pro bono
00:36or no win no fee basis. And the cab rank rule just doesn't apply to these cases.
00:42In other words, when Hermer's cab arrived, he chose his passengers.
00:46Jerry Adams, not one, not two, not three, not four, but five terrorists linked to Al-Qaeda,
00:52including two of Osama bin Laden's lieutenants, one linked to 9-11 and one to 21-7.
00:59The mother of an ISIS beetle, Shamima Begum, Caribbean nations demanding reparations,
01:04and an Eritrean man who was here illegally, who claimed to be 16, who was actually 26.
01:10If someone wants to spend their life defending Britain's enemies, that's on them and their conscience.
01:16But that someone shouldn't be chosen to be our Attorney General.
01:20We've never had an Attorney General so connected to so many people suing the British government.
01:28Now, before the general election, Hermer represented five Sri Lankans seeking asylum in the United Kingdom.
01:34They lost the case. After the election, they were granted asylum in a special deal.
01:40Now, even if all the correct procedures were put in place on conflicts of interest,
01:45even the perception of this kind of stuff damages public trust.
01:50Last week, people called for Hermer to resign after he likened those criticising the ECHR to the Nazis.
01:57But the truth is, Starmer should never have appointed him in the first place.
02:02And why did he? Because they share exactly the same views.
02:07Britain deserves better than the pair of them.
