Brought to you by the Continuing Church of God “Bringing you news and analysis of world events in light of Bible prophecy.” This is a mandate of the Continuing Church of God. What does it take to be truly successful? Is it just luck? Is true success just the “luck of the draw”? Could it be that true success is just a series of random events that could happen to anyone? Or is true success the result of planning, education, drive and determination? In this video, Dr. Thiel shines the light of the true knowledge contained in the Bible on what it takes to be truly successful. Dr. Thiel lets the light of the Bible answer the question of what the characteristics of a truly successful person are. Is love a part of the formula for success? What does God say? No matter your station in life; can you become truly successful? Is education important to success? In Daniel 11:33 God says, “the people who understand shall instruct many”. Do you want your children to be successful? Success goes to those who prepare. You can prepare your children for success. God tells us how. And Dr. Thiel shines the light on the verses that show the way. Watch this video as Dr. Thiel uses the word of God to help us and our children become truly successful. And when we have achieved that success, we will then be able to show Philadelphian love to many of those around us that are looking for instruction. 00:00Greetings, friends. This is Steve Dupuy for the Bible News Prophecy Program with Dr. Bob Thiel,
00:10bringing you news and analysis of world events in light of Bible prophecy.
00:15Dr. Thiel, is success just random or due to good luck?
00:19No.
00:20Well, are there things a person can do to become a real success?
00:24Yes. In 1 Corinthians 13, 8, the Bible teaches us that love never fails, and attaining love is success.
00:32The Apostle Peter was inspired to write how you attain Philadelphia in love.
00:37We go to 2 Peter 1, starting in verse 5. He wrote,
00:43For this reason, given all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control,
00:49to self-control, perseverance, to perseverance, to godliness, to godliness, brotherly kindness.
00:54Now, this is the word Philadelphian in Greek, and to brotherly kindness, love.
00:59For if these things are yours and abound, you'll never be barren or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
01:06He who lacks these things is short-sighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten he was cleansed from his old sins.
01:11Verse 10.
01:12Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure.
01:17For if you do these things, you'll never stumble.
01:19For so, an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
01:27That's interesting.
01:28I never thought of loving as being successful.
01:32Yet, you have just quoted the scripture that says,
01:35One who loves will never stumble.
01:38That's correct.
01:40The Apostle Peter was showing us how to have real success.
01:43While there's many things that can help people become successful,
01:47we're going to focus on one he mentioned.
01:48That was knowledge.
01:50The knowledge that comes from true education.
01:52Now, in the book of Ecclesiastes, it adds that wisdom brings success.
01:57So right knowledge and its use, wisdom, brings success.
02:01True education helps lead to that.
02:05Where can one find true education?
02:08Well, in addition to the Bible itself, one of these is the function of the ministry.
02:15In Romans chapter 10, it says,
02:18How are people going to believe if there's no preacher who's preaching to good tidings?
02:22And in Ephesians 4, starting in verse 11,
02:26Apostle Paul wrote that God gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists,
02:32some pastors, some teachers, for the equipping of the saints,
02:35until Jesus comes, that we no longer be children tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine and trickery of men
02:45and the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting.
02:49But instead, speaking the truth in love,
02:51we might grow into all things to him, to his head, who's Christ, the whole body,
02:56and will grow and edify itself in love.
02:59Now, proper hierarchical church governance provides true education.
03:04Now, those independent of that are likely to be carried by improper winds of doctrine,
03:09including, by the way, false prophetic understandings.
03:13Now, getting back to education,
03:15in the last century, in his booklet, The Seven Laws of Success,
03:19the late Pastor General of the old Worldwide Church of God,
03:22Herbert Armstrong, called this the vital second law of success.
03:26And that was preparation.
03:27He calls it education of preparation.
03:31He says, we're different than dumb animals.
03:33They've got instinct.
03:34We don't have that.
03:35And we have to learn things, like reading, writing, and he said, arithmetic.
03:39Okay?
03:40And one of the things we need to learn, he says,
03:42is we need to learn that we have to learn.
03:44And you need the right goal.
03:47But once you have that goal, you need to learn the way to acquire it.
03:49And our goal should be to seek first the kingdom of God.
03:53And he says, a lot of people don't have the right goal.
03:55They don't have any aim for it.
03:58And then they don't get the right education for that anyway.
04:00Now, in the Old Testament, in the book of Deuteronomy, we read in Deuteronomy 17,
04:07that kings are supposed to read that book as well as to write it.
04:10So that was part of their education.
04:12You say, what's it got to do with us nowadays?
04:15Well, in the book of Revelation, chapter 1,
04:17we find out the New Testament teaches that Christians are supposed to be kings and priests.
04:22It says that Jesus Christ loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood
04:26and has made us kings and priests to his God and his Father.
04:32Well, kings and priests need education and training to properly handle those roles.
04:38Kings rule in order to make wise judgments.
04:41And priests are supposed to teach.
04:43Where can someone learn to be a king and a priest to God according to the standards of Jesus?
04:51Well, you don't have to have a lot of formal education to be educated in true knowledge.
04:55In the book of Acts, by the way, chapter 8, the Lord spoke to Philip,
05:03said, go to find this eunuch who's reading Isaiah.
05:08And he comes up to him and the eunuch says,
05:10how can I understand unless someone guides me?
05:14Then Philip opened his mouth and began to preach to him.
05:18So again, you see the ministry helping people to learn.
05:22But more than that, not only do we need teachers now,
05:27if we're real Christians, we're actually going to be teachers during the millennium.
05:31And you can read that in Isaiah chapter 30, starting in verse 20.
05:36It says, your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore,
05:41but your eyes shall see your teachers.
05:43Your ears shall hear a word behind you saying,
05:46this is the way, walk in it.
05:48Wherever you turn to the right hand, where do you turn to the left?
05:53Now, these teachers it's talking about here are resurrected Christians.
05:57The more you're educated in the ways of God,
05:59the better you will be able to teach in the millennium.
06:02You can't be more successful than being a resurrected Christian.
06:06Does the Bible provide direction to parents
06:09to help teach their children to follow this path?
06:11Sure.
06:14Proverbs 22, verse 6.
06:15Train up a child in the way he should go.
06:18And when he's old, he will not depart from it.
06:20And in Deuteronomy 6, verse 6,
06:22it says, I command you this today.
06:24You'll teach these diligently to your children.
06:28The talk of my words,
06:30when you get in your house,
06:31when you walk by your way,
06:32and you sit down, you rise up.
06:33Of course, in addition to moral and biblical instruction,
06:38and people also learn how to read and write and do arithmetic
06:41and whatever so they can function in society.
06:44Now, my wife and I and our two older sons
06:46have various colleges and university degrees, okay?
06:49But in this age of all colleges and universities,
06:53you know, caution is advised.
06:54And for some people, you know,
06:55technical school training is a better way to go
06:57for vocational stuff than university.
07:00Now, that said, don't think because
07:03there may only be a decade or so of this age left,
07:05you don't need to be concerned about education either.
07:08If you're young, you may end up into the millennium,
07:11and your education may benefit you then.
07:14Okay, so what about those of us
07:17that are more mature in years, Dr. Thiel?
07:20What direction might the Bible point us in?
07:24Well, if you're older,
07:25your spiritual education may be used
07:27in a lot of different ways.
07:27So, you know, Christians are begotten children of God,
07:31and we're to be trained.
07:34And we should be like the Bereans
07:36who studied and searched the scriptures.
07:38It says in Acts 17, 10,
07:40they received the word of God with all readiness,
07:43and they searched the scriptures daily
07:44to find out whether these things were so,
07:46which meant they knew how to read, okay?
07:48And they were trying to become educated.
07:51And Peter wrote, 2 Peter 3, 18,
07:53that we're supposed to grow in grace and knowledge
07:56of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
07:59We should be prepared enough
08:01so we can answer questions to non-believers.
08:04For example, 1 Peter 3, verse 15 says,
08:07that we're to sanctify the Lord God in our hearts
08:10and to always be ready to give a defense,
08:12or the word in the old King James,
08:14to give an answer to everyone who asks you
08:17for a reason for the hope that is in you
08:19with meekness and fear.
08:21And you can't give an answer
08:22if you're not prepared, if you're not educated.
08:26Now, interestingly, in the book of Daniel,
08:31Daniel chapter 11, verse 33,
08:33here's a prophecy.
08:34And those who understand shall instruct many.
08:39Now, the old radio church of God taught,
08:43Daniel prophesied to people
08:44who know their God will be strong.
08:47Such a statement can only refer to God's people.
08:49Notice what follows.
08:50And they that understand among the people
08:52shall instruct many.
08:53That prophecy concerns God's church.
08:56And I agree.
08:58But sadly, many have forgotten this prophecy,
09:00or at least what to do about it,
09:02even though it's going to be fulfilled
09:04within the next decade or so.
09:07Now, I want to go to Hebrews chapter 5, verse 12.
09:12For though by the time you ought to be teachers,
09:14Paul writes, you need someone to teach you.
09:16Again, the first principle is the oracles of God.
09:19You have need of milk and not solid food.
09:22So what happened is,
09:23Paul was talking to real Christians,
09:26and he was disappointed
09:27that they hadn't grown more in knowledge.
09:30We're supposed to be able to be teachers.
09:32Yes, the ability to instruct
09:33is a New Testament concept.
09:37Those who learned as they should
09:38are subject to being used by God
09:40to instruct many.
09:41You know, when Jesus returns,
09:45his people are called volunteers, by the way.
09:48I'm going to go to the book of Psalms.
09:50Psalm 110, starting verse 2.
09:53The Lord shall send the rod of your strength
09:56out of Zion,
09:57rule in the midst of your enemies.
09:59Your people shall be volunteers
10:01in the day of your power.
10:04Now, do you want to be a volunteer of Jesus?
10:06Well, you should be.
10:07You should want that.
10:08Well, how would someone go about
10:11being successful at volunteering for Jesus?
10:16Realize we're supposed to be witnesses.
10:18It says in Isaiah 43, verse 10,
10:21you are my witnesses, says the Lord.
10:23And in Acts 5, starting verse 29,
10:26the New Testament,
10:27Peter and the apostles answered,
10:30we are his witnesses of these things
10:32as also is the Holy Spirit,
10:34which God has given to those who obey him.
10:36That's from the AFV.
10:38Now, how can Philadelphian Christians
10:39be witnesses, take action,
10:41and instruct many if they're not prepared?
10:44Now, Jesus said in Mark 13,
10:47the Holy Spirit will assist us.
10:49He said, we'll be brought before governors
10:50and kings for his namesake as a testimony.
10:54When he deliver you,
10:55okay, I'm sorry, I'm reading Mark 10.
10:57You don't have to worry how you speak.
10:59The spirit of your father speaks in you.
11:01And in Mark 13, he said,
11:04watch for yourselves
11:05and they'll deliver you to councils
11:06and you'll be beaten.
11:08You've brought before rulers
11:09and kings for my sake for a testimony.
11:11This gospel wants to be first preached to the nations.
11:13When they arrest you and deliver you,
11:15don't worry or premeditate to speak.
11:17Whatever is given you in that hour,
11:19speak that because it's not you that speaks,
11:22but the Holy Spirit.
11:23So then, is it just a matter of staying close to God
11:28and waiting for the Holy Spirit to speak through us?
11:31Well, that's part of it.
11:33The Holy Spirit will bring to mind
11:34things you have studied,
11:36but it will also assist you with these things.
11:38As Jesus said in John 14, 25,
11:41I've spoken of these things to you.
11:43Comforter comes, Holy Spirit will teach you all things,
11:47bring remembrance of everything I've told you.
11:50So Holy Spirit brings to remembrance
11:51things you've been taught.
11:53So you need to be prepared.
11:56In 2 Timothy 2, verse 15,
11:59Old King James,
12:01Apostle Paul wrote,
12:02study to show thyself approved unto God.
12:07So you can rightly divide the word of truth.
12:10Okay, so we're supposed to study,
12:11that also reading the Bible,
12:13paying attention to sermons,
12:15but also reading church literature.
12:17Now in 1 Corinthians chapter 1,
12:20Paul wrote,
12:20he thanks God always
12:22that you were enriched
12:23in everything by him
12:24in all utterance
12:25and all knowledge.
12:28Okay.
12:29Now,
12:30we're supposed to be enriched with knowledge.
12:32And if you are,
12:33God may use you.
12:35Not just for friends,
12:36but potentially to instruct many,
12:38as I mentioned in
12:39Daniel 11,
12:40Daniel 11, verse 33.
12:42Now in Luke 21,
12:44Jesus again said that
12:46we're going to be brought before kings
12:47for his name's sake.
12:48Don't settle beforehand.
12:50You'll have this wisdom to speak
12:52because the Holy Spirit
12:53will bring things
12:54in remembrance to you,
12:55meaning
12:55it's not going to bring something
12:57to remembrance to you
12:58that you'd ever learn.
12:59therefore,
13:01you need to be educated.
13:04So we need physical
13:05and spiritual instruction
13:06to be the success
13:07God wants us to be.
13:11The Apostle Peter wrote,
13:132 Peter chapter 1,
13:15grace and peace
13:16is multiplied to you
13:17in the knowledge of God
13:18and of our Lord Jesus.
13:21Verse 5,
13:22giving all diligence,
13:24you know,
13:24I told adding to your faith,
13:25knowledge,
13:26and all those kinds of stuff.
13:27Now,
13:28we're in
13:29the Laodicean era
13:30of the church
13:31and one of the issues
13:33with that
13:34is Jesus chastises
13:36the Laodiceans
13:37because they're not diligent.
13:39Revelation 3,
13:41on 14,
13:42he says
13:43to the Laodiceans,
13:45I know your works.
13:4615,
13:47you're not cold or hot.
13:48I wish you were one or the other
13:49but because you're lukewarm,
13:51say you're fine,
13:51you don't need anything,
13:52I'm going to vomit you
13:53out of my mouth.
13:54Well,
13:55they're not,
13:56they're not diligent
13:57in their proper education
13:58or supporting
13:59the Philadelphian work.
14:01So the question is
14:02for all of us,
14:04do we love our neighbor enough
14:05to want to help them more?
14:07Do we truly have
14:08Philadelphia love
14:09and support God's word?
14:11True success
14:11is not a matter of luck.
14:14True education
14:15can help you be
14:16a true loving success.
14:19Thank you,
14:20Dr. Thiel.
