00:01We are joined by aspiring medical students who have been evacuated from Iran by the government
00:09of India under Operation Sindhu today.
00:12We have with us an aspiring doctor, Sabah Rasool from Sirianagar, who returned to her
00:19home today.
00:20Thank you for joining us, Sabah.
00:23Thank you so much for having me.
00:25So, how much time it took you to reach Kashmir?
00:29It took us approximately four days.
00:33So, can you explain to our viewers how you were evacuated?
00:38What was the process?
00:39First of all, when the attack started, we didn't take it seriously.
00:44We were like, it will, you know, situation will get better in a few days.
00:48But unfortunately, things got escalated.
00:51And then we were in contact with the embassy.
00:54They asked for our details.
00:56Parents here were protesting for the evacuation.
01:01But they said that till they don't get any orders from the MEA, they can't do anything.
01:07So, we were waiting and we were fine.
01:10Iranian government helped us a lot.
01:14Our university officials helped us a lot.
01:17So, the thing that, when the thing started accelerating, they said we are going to relocate you, not evacuate.
01:24We said where?
01:25In our minds, it was Turkey.
01:27Because we are very near to Turkish border.
01:29They said no, it will be Armenia.
01:31We were very hesitant.
01:33So, when did you shift to Armenia?
01:37It was on 16th.
01:38They told us this on 15th.
01:40At about this time in Iran, we got the call from the embassy.
01:44They said that we want you guys to pack your necessary stuff.
01:48We said why?
01:49Because they didn't say you are evacuating.
01:52They said we are relocating you guys.
01:54We said we are to Turkey.
01:55They said no to Armenia.
01:56And we were like, okay, fine, relocation.
01:59Maybe one week we will spend there and then we will be back in Iran.
02:03Because till then, hopefully, the situation will be fine.
02:06But it wasn't.
02:07You know, but the things happened the other way.
02:10So, our evacuation was supposed to be at 6 in the morning.
02:15But that couldn't happen because we had some work in the university.
02:19Eventually, we left the Urmia at about, I guess, 11.
02:23And we reached the Armenian border at about 5.
02:27We had the officials of Indian Embassy from Tehran with us to the Armenian border.
02:34And when they left us at Armenian border, then the Indian Embassy of Armenia officers came from there.
02:42They took us from there.
02:43They did all the visa work, all the things they did for us, which was necessary.
02:48But still, we had to wait there for about 8 hours.
02:51It wasn't their mistake.
02:53It was because they had due to documentation with Armenia and other things.
02:57So, ultimately, they said that we are going to take you near to the embassy,
03:02where Indian Embassy and all the embassy in Armenia, in the capital city of Armenia, are located.
03:08We were taken there.
03:09It took us nearly 12 hours by bus.
03:11And then, we were staying there.
03:13We thought, okay, we are here for one week.
03:16But the arrangements were very good.
03:18We were surprised by the arrangements.
03:20We haven't expected that arrangements will be this good.
03:25So, at night, one of the officers from the Indian Embassy came.
03:30He said that, guys, you have to pack your things.
03:33Your things are already packed.
03:34You are leaving tomorrow.
03:36We said, why?
03:37Aren't we just relocated?
03:39Why is the evacuation happening?
03:40He said, no, as you guys are seeing, the situation in Tehran is worsening day by day.
03:47And, Foreign Ministry of Tehran as well as MEA and the Central Government of India wants you back in India.
03:55You guys can't stay here anymore.
03:58So, we just did these things.
04:00And, Indigo was our aircraft.
04:04Indigo came.
04:05They landed in Armenia at about, I guess, 10 in the morning.
04:09And, at 3, we departed from Armenia.
04:12And, we reached India today at 4 a.m.
04:16And, when we reached India, till then, our journey was very smooth.
04:20We were fine.
04:21We were welcomed by the officials.
04:23Did you explain to us the situation in Tehran?
04:26Especially, where were you placed in Tehran?
04:29Yeah, we are actually in the West Azerbaijan province.
04:33Not in Tehran.
04:35In Iran.
04:36It's like a separate.
04:37Like, we have states.
04:38They have provinces.
04:39We are in West Azerbaijan province.
04:41And, the capital city of that is Urmia.
04:43And, I'm from the Urmia University of Medical Sciences.
04:47So, one attack first happened.
04:50It happened outside the children's hospital.
04:53In Urmia.
04:54In Urmia, yeah.
04:55Fortunately, all the children were safe.
04:57But, some locals died.
04:59And, many others were injured.
05:01And, another attack happened at the airport.
05:04And, another attack happened at about 3 a.m. in the night.
05:08We felt like that.
05:10Okay.
05:11We have missile on our dormitory.
05:13It felt like that.
05:15So, yeah.
05:16The things were like that.
05:18And, you were all Kashmiri students?
05:20No.
05:21We were Kashmiris, Pakistanis and Iraqis.
05:24We have an international dormitory.
05:26Where the internationals are living.
05:28So, our Iraqis left before us.
05:31Because, for them, the land border was open.
05:33Then, the Pakistanis got the permission to get out of Iran.
05:38To go out of Iran via land borders.
05:41And, at the end, we got permission.
05:43But, we don't have land border with Iran.
05:46So, we have to be airlifted.
05:48So, it was like that.
05:50But, we were still hesitant to leave Iran.
05:52We didn't really wanted to.
05:54Why was it that you were hesitant to leave Iran?
05:56We were hesitant.
05:57Yeah.
05:58Wart on Iran.
05:59Because, we have been there for 4 years.
06:01We have seen people of Iran.
06:03We know how they are.
06:04They are resilient.
06:05They are hospitality.
06:06You can see nowhere in the hospitality in the world.
06:10Like, Iranian hospitality.
06:11Like, they will do anything for you.
06:13So, we know that.
06:15We knew that.
06:16How they are.
06:17We were like, okay.
06:18We are gonna leave.
06:19We are gonna go to our homes.
06:20What about them?
06:21They are gonna, like, suffer.
06:23We wanted to.
06:24We were like, okay.
06:25If we can, like, help them in any way possible.
06:27We want to help them.
06:28But, embassy didn't allow that.
06:30They said, no.
06:31You all have to leave.
06:32We are.
06:33What help could you have provided to Iran?
06:35Like, maybe to injured or in any way.
06:38In any way.
06:39We were ready to help in any way.
06:41It wasn't just like, we are in clinicals.
06:43We can do some, you know, things.
06:45We can provide some basic medical care aid.
06:49We were ready to help in any way.
06:51But.
06:52What was the situation outside on the road?
06:54The situation outside on the road, no one was actually on the road.
06:57Roads were empty.
06:58It was first time.
07:00It was actually the occasion of Ede Gadeer.
07:03Which is like, you know, the biggest holiday in Iran.
07:06And.
07:07But roads were empty.
07:08Shops were closed.
07:09No one was there.
07:10As if like, whole Steve was dead.
07:12And it was like, all over the Iran.
07:14So everything was like that.
07:16And what was like, your regular supplies?
07:18Like, were the food or the water?
07:21We had food.
07:23We had few supermarkets which were open.
07:25But apart from that, if we needed anything which wasn't available, our university officials
07:30used to get that for us.
07:32Even one night, that was very terrible.
07:34When that 3 a.m. attack happened, one of our university officials, actually our dormitory
07:40official, he stayed in our dormitory for the night.
07:42He said, I will be with you guys so that you don't feel alone.
07:46So this was like the situation.
07:47That's why we were hesitant to leave Iran.
07:49Because we know how they are.
07:51And we really respect them and love them.
07:55And what can we say about their leader?
07:57We just love them.
07:58We just love him.
07:59So that was about it.
08:01So this was one of the students.
08:04Among the wanting students who were evacuated from Iran to India this morning.
08:11Maudul Mohamed, 4E TV, Ibarat, in Sirinagar.
08:16So that was about this weekend.
08:18There we go.
08:19There we go.
08:20Well it's been out.
08:21Where are we going?
08:22I mean, I'll be back here.
08:23Well, I'm going to see a little bit.
08:24But now, see a lot of the time it's been on to India and there.
08:26But since then, I'm coming back.
