We are joined by aspiring medical students who have been evacuated from Iran by the government
00:09
of India under Operation Sindhu today.
00:12
We have with us an aspiring doctor, Sabah Rasool from Sirianagar, who returned to her
00:19
home today.
00:20
Thank you for joining us, Sabah.
00:23
Thank you so much for having me.
00:25
So, how much time it took you to reach Kashmir?
00:29
It took us approximately four days.
00:33
So, can you explain to our viewers how you were evacuated?
00:38
What was the process?
00:39
First of all, when the attack started, we didn't take it seriously.
00:44
We were like, it will, you know, situation will get better in a few days.
00:48
But unfortunately, things got escalated.
00:51
And then we were in contact with the embassy.
00:54
They asked for our details.
00:56
Parents here were protesting for the evacuation.
01:01
But they said that till they don't get any orders from the MEA, they can't do anything.
01:07
So, we were waiting and we were fine.
01:10
Iranian government helped us a lot.
01:14
Our university officials helped us a lot.
01:17
So, the thing that, when the thing started accelerating, they said we are going to relocate you, not evacuate.
01:24
We said where?
01:25
In our minds, it was Turkey.
01:27
Because we are very near to Turkish border.
01:29
They said no, it will be Armenia.
01:31
We were very hesitant.
01:33
So, when did you shift to Armenia?
01:37
It was on 16th.
01:38
They told us this on 15th.
01:40
At about this time in Iran, we got the call from the embassy.
01:44
They said that we want you guys to pack your necessary stuff.
01:48
We said why?
01:49
Because they didn't say you are evacuating.
01:52
They said we are relocating you guys.
01:54
We said we are to Turkey.
01:55
They said no to Armenia.
01:56
And we were like, okay, fine, relocation.
01:59
Maybe one week we will spend there and then we will be back in Iran.
02:03
Because till then, hopefully, the situation will be fine.
02:06
But it wasn't.
02:07
You know, but the things happened the other way.
02:10
So, our evacuation was supposed to be at 6 in the morning.
02:15
But that couldn't happen because we had some work in the university.
02:19
Eventually, we left the Urmia at about, I guess, 11.
02:23
And we reached the Armenian border at about 5.
02:27
We had the officials of Indian Embassy from Tehran with us to the Armenian border.
02:34
And when they left us at Armenian border, then the Indian Embassy of Armenia officers came from there.
02:42
They took us from there.
02:43
They did all the visa work, all the things they did for us, which was necessary.
02:48
But still, we had to wait there for about 8 hours.
02:51
It wasn't their mistake.
02:53
It was because they had due to documentation with Armenia and other things.
02:57
So, ultimately, they said that we are going to take you near to the embassy,
03:02
where Indian Embassy and all the embassy in Armenia, in the capital city of Armenia, are located.
03:08
We were taken there.
03:09
It took us nearly 12 hours by bus.
03:11
And then, we were staying there.
03:13
We thought, okay, we are here for one week.
03:16
But the arrangements were very good.
03:18
We were surprised by the arrangements.
03:20
We haven't expected that arrangements will be this good.
03:25
So, at night, one of the officers from the Indian Embassy came.
03:30
He said that, guys, you have to pack your things.
03:33
Your things are already packed.
03:34
You are leaving tomorrow.
03:36
We said, why?
03:37
Aren't we just relocated?
03:39
Why is the evacuation happening?
03:40
He said, no, as you guys are seeing, the situation in Tehran is worsening day by day.
03:47
And, Foreign Ministry of Tehran as well as MEA and the Central Government of India wants you back in India.
03:55
You guys can't stay here anymore.
03:58
So, we just did these things.
04:00
And, Indigo was our aircraft.
04:04
Indigo came.
04:05
They landed in Armenia at about, I guess, 10 in the morning.
04:09
And, at 3, we departed from Armenia.
04:12
And, we reached India today at 4 a.m.
04:16
And, when we reached India, till then, our journey was very smooth.
04:20
We were fine.
04:21
We were welcomed by the officials.
04:23
Did you explain to us the situation in Tehran?
04:26
Especially, where were you placed in Tehran?
04:29
Yeah, we are actually in the West Azerbaijan province.
04:33
Not in Tehran.
04:35
In Iran.
04:36
It's like a separate.
04:37
Like, we have states.
04:38
They have provinces.
04:39
We are in West Azerbaijan province.
04:41
And, the capital city of that is Urmia.
04:43
And, I'm from the Urmia University of Medical Sciences.
04:47
So, one attack first happened.
04:50
It happened outside the children's hospital.
04:53
In Urmia.
04:54
In Urmia, yeah.
04:55
Fortunately, all the children were safe.
04:57
But, some locals died.
04:59
And, many others were injured.
05:01
And, another attack happened at the airport.
05:04
And, another attack happened at about 3 a.m. in the night.
05:08
We felt like that.
05:10
Okay.
05:11
We have missile on our dormitory.
05:13
It felt like that.
05:15
So, yeah.
05:16
The things were like that.
05:18
And, you were all Kashmiri students?
05:20
No.
05:21
We were Kashmiris, Pakistanis and Iraqis.
05:24
We have an international dormitory.
05:26
Where the internationals are living.
05:28
So, our Iraqis left before us.
05:31
Because, for them, the land border was open.
05:33
Then, the Pakistanis got the permission to get out of Iran.
05:38
To go out of Iran via land borders.
05:41
And, at the end, we got permission.
05:43
But, we don't have land border with Iran.
05:46
So, we have to be airlifted.
05:48
So, it was like that.
05:50
But, we were still hesitant to leave Iran.
05:52
We didn't really wanted to.
05:54
Why was it that you were hesitant to leave Iran?
05:56
We were hesitant.
05:57
Yeah.
05:58
Wart on Iran.
05:59
Because, we have been there for 4 years.
06:01
We have seen people of Iran.
06:03
We know how they are.
06:04
They are resilient.
06:05
They are hospitality.
06:06
You can see nowhere in the hospitality in the world.
06:10
Like, Iranian hospitality.
06:11
Like, they will do anything for you.
06:13
So, we know that.
06:15
We knew that.
06:16
How they are.
06:17
We were like, okay.
06:18
We are gonna leave.
06:19
We are gonna go to our homes.
06:20
What about them?
06:21
They are gonna, like, suffer.
06:23
We wanted to.
06:24
We were like, okay.
06:25
If we can, like, help them in any way possible.
06:27
We want to help them.
06:28
But, embassy didn't allow that.
06:30
They said, no.
06:31
You all have to leave.
06:32
We are.
06:33
What help could you have provided to Iran?
06:35
Like, maybe to injured or in any way.
06:38
In any way.
06:39
We were ready to help in any way.
06:41
It wasn't just like, we are in clinicals.
06:43
We can do some, you know, things.
06:45
We can provide some basic medical care aid.
06:49
We were ready to help in any way.
06:51
But.
06:52
What was the situation outside on the road?
06:54
The situation outside on the road, no one was actually on the road.
06:57
Roads were empty.
06:58
It was first time.
07:00
It was actually the occasion of Ede Gadeer.
07:03
Which is like, you know, the biggest holiday in Iran.
07:06
And.
07:07
But roads were empty.
07:08
Shops were closed.
07:09
No one was there.
07:10
As if like, whole Steve was dead.
07:12
And it was like, all over the Iran.
07:14
So everything was like that.
07:16
And what was like, your regular supplies?
07:18
Like, were the food or the water?
07:21
We had food.
07:23
We had few supermarkets which were open.
07:25
But apart from that, if we needed anything which wasn't available, our university officials
07:30
used to get that for us.
07:32
Even one night, that was very terrible.
07:34
When that 3 a.m. attack happened, one of our university officials, actually our dormitory
07:40
official, he stayed in our dormitory for the night.
07:42
He said, I will be with you guys so that you don't feel alone.
07:46
So this was like the situation.
07:47
That's why we were hesitant to leave Iran.
07:49
Because we know how they are.
07:51
And we really respect them and love them.
07:55
And what can we say about their leader?
07:57
We just love them.
07:58
We just love him.
07:59
So that was about it.
08:01
So this was one of the students.
08:04
Among the wanting students who were evacuated from Iran to India this morning.
08:11
Maudul Mohamed, 4E TV, Ibarat, in Sirinagar.
08:16
So that was about this weekend.
08:18
There we go.
08:19
There we go.
08:20
Well it's been out.
08:21
Where are we going?
08:22
I mean, I'll be back here.
08:23
Well, I'm going to see a little bit.
08:24
But now, see a lot of the time it's been on to India and there.
08:26
But since then, I'm coming back.
