At a press briefing, President Trump spoke about the Rwanda-Congo peace deal.
Transcript
00:00Mr. President, congratulations.
00:05A couple of very different questions.
00:06One is Rwanda, 1994.
00:08As you grew up in New York, we all knew how horrific
00:11those attacks were.
00:12Congratulations on the treaty.
00:14There are talks that perhaps...
00:16The President is going to take place today at
00:173 o'clock in the Oval Office.
00:18We're going to have a signing with Rwanda and
00:20the Congo.
00:22So I'm a little out of my league in that one
00:25because I didn't know too much about it.
00:26I knew one thing.
00:27They were going at it for many years and
00:30with machetes.
00:31It is one of the worst, one of the worst wars
00:34that anyone's ever seen.
00:36And I just happened to have somebody that was able
00:38to get it settled.
00:39I mean, just a brilliant person who is very
00:42comfortable in that part of the world.
00:44It's a very dangerous part of the world.
00:45They said, are you uncomfortable there?
00:47People are being killed.
00:49School children are being raided and killed.
00:52And I don't even want to say how, but as viciously
00:54as I've ever heard.
00:56Are you uncomfortable?
00:57No, that's the part of the world that I know.
00:59Very comfortable.
01:00Was able to get them together and sell it.
01:02And not only that, we're getting for the United
01:04States a lot of the mineral rights from the
01:07Congo as part of it.
01:08They're so honored to be here.
01:10They never thought they'd be coming to it.
01:11Look, this is a very tough part of the world.
01:14They never thought, they were just telling me,
01:16they never thought they'd ever be coming to the
01:18White House.
01:19And they're so honored.
01:20And so we're going to give them a great big
01:21reception.
01:22But that's after many years of fighting.
01:23It's a great thing.
01:24That's at three o'clock, I believe.
