AccuWeather forecasters are expecting Tropical Storm Flossie to strengthen into a hurricane as it passes just off the western coast of Mexico this week.

00:00We do want to keep an eye on the tropics on both sides of the nation of Mexico here.

00:05On the Pacific side, actually, we have tropical activity here.

00:08The numbers are in a little early for Tropical Storm Flossie.

00:11Officially, what will become the 2 o'clock Pacific time, 5 p.m. Eastern observations,

00:16in a little early regarding the storm status and 65 mile per hour max sustained winds.

00:21This is a healthy tropical storm moving basically parallel to the Mexican coastline.

00:27It's going to scrape the coast here, moving west and northwest,

00:31so primarily northwest at this point at 12 miles per hour.

00:34And you can see that we're going to be dealing with an area with gusts of wind

00:37with some of the outer rain bands 60-plus miles per hour here southeast of Puerto Vallarta

00:41to a point west of Acapulco.

00:43A lot of the action earlier in the season was east of Acapulco and near that area,

00:47this one west of Acapulco for that 4- to 8-inch rainfall.

00:52So there will be some flooding associated with tropical storm flaws.

00:55It's likely to become a hurricane, and we expect this to become a Category 2 hurricane

00:58by Wednesday daybreak.

01:01So over the next 24 hours, some continual strengthening.

01:05In the Caribbean, we do have a lot of wind shear out there.

01:09This map shows that deep purples have stronger wind shear,

01:12disruptive to prevent any storms from organizing.

01:15But a little closer to land, there's a lot of disturbed weather.

01:18This is responsible for those Florida thunderstorms,

01:20and there is a low chance of development between Friday, July 4th, and early next week.
