00:00Welcome to your evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:03Some heavy rain on the way, some welcome rain in places, of course.
00:07Low pressure is behind it.
00:09This low has been trekking slowly but surely towards the UK.
00:13It's brought the change to cooler conditions already.
00:16And around this low, there's plenty of cloud and rain too.
00:20One weather front trekking slowly across northern Scotland through the night,
00:23bringing some pretty soggy conditions to northern Aberdeenshire,
00:26Caithness, Sutherland and the Westernars.
00:28And then the main low sweeps in, some rain through Northern Ireland
00:31and eventually into parts of north and west Wales.
00:34One or two showers ahead of it in southern Scotland.
00:37Many central and eastern parts will have a dry night.
00:40It has turned cooler, it has turned fresher.
00:42Temperatures down into the low teens for many single digits across rural parts in Scotland.
00:49Of course, it takes a while for your house to cool down,
00:52but you should notice it won't be quite so humid overnight tonight,
00:56a more comfortable night for sleeping.
00:57But it will be a wet and windy day for some tomorrow.
01:00It starts pretty soggy across Northern Ireland.
01:02That rain spreads into north Wales, north-west England, south-west Scotland.
01:06Especially this zone stays soggy for most of the day.
01:09The wind's really picking up through the night as well.
01:12And seasonably gusty around the coast of Wales, south-west England and north-west England too.
01:17It'll be breezy for parts of East Anglia and the south-east with the odd shower,
01:21but many places here will stay dry.
01:23Same goes for the south coast of England.
01:25And much of Northern Scotland having a fine day, actually.
01:28It may start a bit cloudy with a few spots of rain, but that should clear.
01:32And then we'll see some sunny spells.
01:33But let's focus in on that rain because it really starts to move in through the night.
01:37This is showing the six-hour rainfall accumulations building up across Northern Ireland.
01:42And some showers breaking out ahead of that main rain zone.
01:46And then it spreads into Wales, north-west England, south of Scotland.
01:49And over the hills here, some red peaks there.
01:51We could see over 50 millimetres of rain over the tops of the hills.
01:56Maybe as much as 75 to 80 millimetres of rainfall.
02:00And that's something we haven't seen for quite some time in these locations.
02:03So the heaviest rain is going to be over the hills.
02:05But even at lower levels, there will be some useful rainfall.
02:09Temperature-wise, well, we're going to be below average for quite a few places,
02:12particularly in that rainier zone.
02:14Temperature is only in the high teens.
02:16But with some brightness across East Anglia in the south-east,
02:18we could get up over 20 Celsius, 21 or 22.
02:21Same goes for the western highlands.
02:23Feeling quite pleasant here in the sunshine.
02:25But the winds will make it feel even fresher in the west, as I mentioned.
02:29Unseasonably gusty winds in and around the Irish Sea,
02:32but particularly the west and the south coast of Wales
02:34and the coast of south-west England.
02:36Something to bear in mind if you are at the beaches here during Tuesday.
02:41The wet and windy weather, the area of low pressure responsible,
02:44continues to track its way away out into the North Sea,
02:47taking the rain with it during Tuesday night.
02:50So turning a lot drier by the time we get to Wednesday.
02:53Main exception will be down to the south-west.
02:55Well, we still have some thick cloud and outbreaks of rain,
02:58and that's likely to stick around as we go through Wednesday.
03:02It'll only slowly make a little bit of progress further north.
03:06Many places elsewhere will start dry,
03:08but there'll still be a few showers and quite a bit of cloud
03:11over northern England, down to the Midlands and eastern England.
03:14The showers pretty well scattered, perhaps as far north as southern Scotland.
03:18But again, the emphasis really for Wednesday is a lot drier,
03:21certainly for northern Ireland, Wales and northwest England,
03:24compared to Tuesday.
03:25And for many, it'll be a bit warmer as well.
03:27The winds will be lighter, feeling quite pleasant once more in the sunshine,
03:31with temperatures back close to the average high teens or low 20s,
03:34maybe up into the mid-20s across the southeast.
03:38It will be a cooler feeling day in the south-west, though,
03:40with this cloud and outbreaks of rain.
