According to Gina, who works in the tourism department for Neath Port Talbot council, searches for doggy staycations are up 55% in Wales, more than anywhere else in the UK. She wants more people looking to go on holiday with their furry friends to have a look at Wales, and see how much we can offer.
00:00Definitely around the COVID time when everyone was working from home and, you know, decided to get a dog.
00:09So there's definitely, I think, an increase in the holidays as a result of the rise in ownership.
00:14And actually searches for pet friendly holidays have increased by over 55% over the last four years to Wales, which represents the highest growth area.
00:27So this is really good news for Wales to try and capitalise on this.
00:33More and more people are looking to find holidays that they can take their dogs on.
00:37Dog ownership has increased and people are seeing their furry friends as part of the family more often.
00:42So why not let them go on holiday with you?
00:44Wales is seeing a boom in doggy staycations and Neithport Talbot wants to capitalise on that.
00:49So what we're trying to do here in the Dramatic Art of Wales is to, you know, really sell our dramatic scenery, which we have here.
01:00But also we have an abundance of vast open spaces, which are just perfect for pet friendly holidays, for bringing your dog along.
01:09And there's a saying that a dog is a man's best friend and we think, well, why shouldn't the best friend come and have a holiday as well?
01:20Leaving your dogs for a prolonged period can be hard for some people.
01:23Kennels can be expensive and family members might not be too keen on looking after them for too long.
01:27So by being able to welcome dogs too, Gina says that the Dramatic Heartlands of Wales are making holidays more attractive to dog owners.
01:34If we're able to cater for pets, dog owners tend to stay longer as well in the area that they're not thinking, oh, you know, I've got to get back and get the dog out of kennels or relieve my parents from dog sitting duties.
01:48So they do tend to tend to stay longer and also spend more money in the locality.
01:57I'm laughing because one of our cafe providers, Charlotte's Pantry, has started puppuccinos as well.
02:05So if visitors are coming along, they can have their cappuccino, but also the pup can have a puppuccino.
02:12And youth poor Talbot certainly has plenty to offer on a doggy staycation, which even has some purpose-built sites just for the dogs.
02:20We have a Margham Bark Play Park, which is situated in one of our country parks, Margham Park.
02:32A fantastic thousand acre country park just ready to explore.
02:38But the playback is our new purpose-built dog agility area, which is in a safe and closed environment.
02:48So you can come and let your dog off the lead.
02:53And if they're looking for something a bit more testing, then that's the perfect, perfect place to take them.
