00:00Good evening Sadlers fans, I'm just on my way back now from the Bescott where Walsall opened the 2025 and 26 campaign with a 2-1 victory over Swindon Town and it was a great occasion with over 8,000 in attendance.
00:17And Walsall made the best possible start really when Evan Weir cracked a special free kick into the top corner from 25 yards out but the game and the complexion of the contest changed drastically when Brandon Comley was dismissed after pulling back Aaron Dryden as he was set to race through on goal.
00:44But Swindon never really stretched Miles Roberts between the sticks for Walsall, Harry Smith had a header which was pretty comfortably saying Will Wright with a free kick as well which the goalkeeper gathered with relative ease and yeah I mean Sadler had to switch with Johnny Stuttle coming off and Lewis Warrington came on for his debut after arriving from Leighton Orient earlier this week and he played in the base of
01:14midfield in place of Brandon Comley and yeah Walsall had to sit deep. Aaron Presley went through a hell of a lot of work leading the line on his own and they really had to dig in and they showed great character in doing that but it did look as if their good work was all sent to be undone.
01:33When Rico Brown was penalised for a foul inside the box on Harry Smith which Matt Sadler described in terms of decision from the referee as outrageous but Will Wright stepped up converted from the spot.
01:49And then it then became quite an end to end affair really Paul Glantz will flash one over the bar force wind and at the end of a quick counter attack and then seven minutes valid time were put up on the board.
02:00I can imagine a lot of fans including myself were wincing at the prospect of that but fortunately Connor Barrett combined effectively with Courtney Clark and kept composure with a neat finish into the Boston corner to provide Walsall with a 2-1 win on opening day.
