00:00Minwa Gilas Pilipinas failed to secure their first win against Chinese Taipei in 2025 FIBA Asia Cup held on Wednesday at King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
00:10In the early minutes, Chinese Taipei reached a game-high of 17 points.
00:14Gilas came close several times, but Ying Chun Chen's shooting was a threat for the Philippines as he scored six three-pointers to lead Chinese Taipei to their 95-87 victory.
00:25Do-it-all forward Justin Brownlee was the Gilas' go-to guy, who listed 19 points, seven rebounds, and two assists, but fouled out in the final minutes of the game.
00:36Another silver lining for Gilas was Kevin Kiambau, who scored 17 off the bench.
00:41Meanwhile, Gilas mentor Tim Cohn is confident the national team will be able to recover in its next group games against Iraq and New Zealand.
00:48Well, we felt that coming in, no doubt about it.
00:53We felt that coming in at the start, that we would have a chance to go far.
00:56And this has made a big, you know, roadblock for us right here, but which is something we're going to have to try to overcome.
01:04If we have to come through the loser's bracket, then we're going to try to do that.
01:08But, you know, as opposed to, you know, winning it back in 1985, you know, just, you know, we were a dominant basketball team back then,
01:20and the other teams have obviously caught up to us, and so we have not been able to play as well as we wanted in this tournament.
01:30But, like I said, there's only one thing we can do at this point, and that's move on.
