Celebrating its 149th year the Ekka is back bringing country spirit to the city. Cloudy skies didn't keep the crowds away, with 40-thousand people making their way through the gates on day 1.

00:00When the Ekka comes to town, nothing can rain on that parade.
00:07Day one of the Royal Queensland show got off to a racing start,
00:12with thousands flocking through the gates.
00:15Despite the drizzle, revellers came dressed in their Ekka best.
00:19So I thought I'd protect my nice hat and chuck the old raincoat on the hat.
00:24Some more high maintenance than others.
00:27She's had a manicure, pedicure, she's had a bath, blow dry.
00:32From prized beef cattle to a festival of felines and champion show dogs.
00:39Quintessentially Queensland, the Ekka has something for everyone.
00:44Ice cream, ice cream, that's all she's won't wantin' all morning.
