Six CONTROL agents have been murdered in the last month by someone with incredible strength. The only clue is that each agent received a banana in the mail the morning that they were killed. It is soon deduced that the killer is an ape. 99 alerts Max that he has received a banana, prompting the Chief to assign Agent 77, Chuck Armstrong, to protect Max. Unbeknownst to CONTROL, Agent 77 is an ape surgically altered by one Dr. Matthew Rath, who can remotely manipulate 77.

00:00You
00:30Oh, my God.
01:00Oh, hi there.
01:03Be smart, it's me, Webster.
01:05What are you doing in the trunk?
01:06I'll tell you everything.
01:07Here, open the trunk so we can talk.
01:16Max, I don't have much time.
01:17Now, the reason I sent for you...
01:19Say, this is terrific.
01:21Did you do this yourself, or did you call in a decorator?
01:23I did myself.
01:24Look, the reason I sent for you...
01:25You did a fantastic job.
01:27This is really great.
01:28Thanks.
01:28Now, the reason I sent for you...
01:29If I ever think of having a trunk done up, I'm going to call you in.
01:32Are you finished?
01:33There's one more thing.
01:34What?
01:34Why did you call me here?
01:37I've been marked for murder.
01:39So I'm having myself shipped to Pittsburgh before they can get me.
01:42Why Pittsburgh?
01:43Why not Pittsburgh?
01:44Well, murder is one thing, but suicide is another.
01:47Why do you think you've been marked for murder?
01:51Because I got this in the mail this morning.
01:55Well, I'll admit it's not too right, but that's no reason for going to Pittsburgh.
01:58Max, when you get a banana in the mail, you know what comes next.
02:02Cornflakes?
02:04Forget it.
02:05Look, I need you to do me a favor.
02:08I pulled out so fast.
02:10I didn't get a chance to mail this.
02:13What is it?
02:13My alimony check.
02:14It should have gone out yesterday.
02:16You mean to tell me that you've been sitting here worried about being murdered and you're
02:20late with your alimony check?
02:22Would you please mail it?
02:23Well, all right.
02:24I'll be back in a minute.
02:25Hurry up.
02:25I want you to lock me back in so I'll be safe.
02:39No.
02:41No.
02:42No.
02:44No.
02:44No.
02:44No.

02:53No.
02:54No.
02:54No.
03:01And he was only a day late.
04:58I just got the report back from the lab.
05:00Wait till you hear this.
05:02Go on, 99.
05:02Well, the lab was able to make a positive identification on those prints that we found in the dirt on the other side of the wall.
05:08Do they know whose footprints they were?
05:09Well, they weren't just footprints.
05:11They were handprints and footprints.
05:13Whoever the killer was walked on his hands and feet.
05:16Well, 99, the only thing that walks on his hands and feet is an ape.
05:19Or somebody with poor posture.
05:22You hit it right on the nose, Chief.
05:24It was an ape.
05:26An ape with poor posture.
05:28Ape.
05:29Well, that explains it.
05:31That explains how the killer could climb a 20-foot wall.
05:34It also explains how it had strength enough to cause all this damage.
05:3799, we've got to stop that ape.
05:39Keep him from doing any more harm.
05:41I want you to send out an all-points bulletin.
05:43Not just a moment, Chief.
05:44Are you trying to tell me that there's an ape roaming around the streets of Washington,
05:49feeling free to kill control agents whenever he wishes, and nobody notices him?
05:53That's right, Max.
05:54I'll buy that.
05:56Now you behave yourself as a good girl.
06:00I'll be with you in a moment.
06:06Here you are, Dr. Ratt.
06:08Control, sixth victim, and your sixth check.
06:13Thank you, Bronin.
06:14Chaos is most generous.
06:16At the rate you are going, you will be a very wealthy man.
06:20Yes, but a very lonely man.
06:24I've been much too absorbed in my work all these years.
06:29No friends, no companionship, no woman.
06:33I'm going to take this money and use it to bring myself feminine companionship.
06:40You are going out to find a woman?
06:41No, no, no, no.
06:43To build one.
06:44I'll build one here in the laboratory.
06:47I'm going to make the perfect female.
06:50Maybe you could build me one.
06:51But right now, I am more concerned about my next victim.
06:58He should have received his banana by now.
07:00Who is it?
07:13It's Armstrong.
07:17Boy, am I glad to see you.
07:18We got here as soon as we could.
07:20Here, I want to show you something.
07:22Control agents are blocking both ends of the street.
07:25There's a squad of control agents surrounding the entire building.
07:28We've got seven control agents in the apartments facing this building.
07:32We've asked the CIA for an agent to help us out.
07:35He's stationed on the window ledge of the 81st floor of the Kensington building,
07:39which overlooks the entire area.
07:41On the 81st floor?
07:42That's dangerous.
07:43He could fall off.
07:44That's why we asked for a CIA agent.
07:48Now, if you'll excuse me, Cronin,
07:50I must proceed to do away with victim number seven.
07:54Dr. Rath, may I be permitted to watch how you accomplish it?
07:58Well, ordinarily, I perform my murders in privacy,
08:03but seeing as you are chaos, observe.
08:14What did you just do?
08:22I turned on the air conditioning.
08:25It's a little bit stuffy in here.
08:27Now,
08:30first,
08:31I will contact the ape
08:33and then instruct him to kill.
08:36How can you contact him?
08:37I have placed two tiny speakers in his skull,
08:41one behind each ear.
08:43Why two?
08:44Stereo?
08:46Chaco?
08:48Can you hear me, Chaco?
08:50This is Dr. Rath.
08:53I'll fix us a couple of cold drinks, okay?
08:56Yeah, sounds good.
09:02Chaco?
09:03Can you hear me, Chaco?
09:05This is Dr. Rath.
09:07Get ready to kill Agent Roberts
09:11when you hear the bell.
09:13A bell?
09:14Oh, he has been conditioned to kill
09:16when he hears this bell.
09:17How can you stop him?
09:21Incredible.
09:21On the child.
09:27Oh, Lord.
09:36Oh, sorry.
09:37Oh, my God.
09:38Oh, my God.
09:39Oh, Lord.
09:40Oh, my God.
09:40Oh, my God.
09:40What a bell?
09:42Oh, my God.
09:43Oh, my God.
09:43Oh, my God.
09:44I'm trying to crack in with nothing.
09:44Oh, my God.
09:45Yeah, God.
09:46Oh, my God.
09:46Oh, my God.
09:48Oh, my God.
09:50Please, I'll hit the spot.
10:02Chaco is once again Control Agent Armstrong.
10:07When he hears this,
10:10or a ho.
10:11Ben, it is an ape, not a human being.
10:15He looks like a human being and sounds like a human being.
10:20But he's actually an ape.
10:22Don't understand.
10:23One year ago, I took a full-grown mature ape
10:27and through a series of injections,
10:30transformed him so he looks human.
10:34But in his brain is the savagery and the killer instinct of a gorilla.
10:39It is absolutely amazing.
10:42I'll tell you what else is amazing, Cronin.
10:44What?
10:45That you and I can be here like this
10:48and converse in a German accent for hour after hour
10:51and neither one of us is German.
10:54Victim number seven.
10:56Roberts got this in the morning mail
10:58and by nightfall,
11:01he was dead.
11:02I don't understand, Chief.
11:04What kind of an ape could be intelligent enough
11:06to put a banana in the mail?
11:08Probably one that worked in the post office.
11:10That's ridiculous, Larrabee.
11:14I understand during the Christmas rush,
11:16they'll hire anything.
11:17What I don't understand is how an ape
11:19was able to slip past 30 control agents,
11:23get into that building,
11:25enter an apartment that was locked and bolted,
11:27slip past another control agent,
11:29and go in the kitchen to kill Roberts.
11:31What is it you don't understand, Chief?
11:33Control headquarters, Larrabee speaking.
11:39Just a moment, I'll see if he's here.
11:41Max, it's your wife.
11:43What are you whispering for?
11:44In case you didn't want her to know you're here.
11:50Hello, 99, what's wrong?
11:52Well, I don't know how to tell you this, Max,
11:54but something came for you in the mail today.
11:56Well, that's nothing to worry about
11:58unless, of course, it's a banana.
11:59I'll be home in 10 minutes, 99.
12:05You'll never guess in a million years
12:07what just came for me in the mail.
12:09A banana?
12:11All right, Larrabee, that's it.
12:12Stay right where you are.
12:13You're under arrest.
12:14Max, what are you doing?
12:15Larrabee is the murderer, Chief.
12:17How else would he know
12:18there was a banana in the mail
12:19unless he sent it?
12:20Max, it doesn't take a genius
12:22to know you got a banana in the mail.
12:24I knew it from the expression on your face.
12:26Then you're both under arrest.
12:27Max, will you stop being ridiculous?
12:29Let's put that gun away
12:29and apologize to Larrabee.
12:31I'm sorry, Larrabee.
12:33That's okay, Max.
12:34I know how you feel.
12:36Your first banana.
12:38Besides, it's already been established
12:39that the murderer is an ape.
12:47Control headquarters, this is the Chief.
12:50Uh-huh.
12:52What's that?
12:54That's wonderful.
12:55Good, I'll get on it right away.
12:57What's that, Chief?
12:58Our first break on this case.
13:00Dr. Matthew Rath,
13:01former assistant curator
13:02at the Washington Zoo.
13:04He was fired more than a year ago
13:06for conducting unauthorized experiments
13:08with apes.
13:09He was dismissed
13:10and his license was revoked.
13:12Now, we've just gotten a tip
13:13that Dr. Rath is continuing
13:14these experiments
13:15with chimpanzees, monkeys,
13:18baboons,
13:19and particularly gorillas.
13:20Where did this tip come from, Chief?
13:22The people who live downstairs complain.
13:26Now, I'm going to place Dr. Rath
13:27under surveillance.
13:28But in the meantime,
13:29I'm not taking any chances.
13:30I'm assigning another control agent
13:32to you, Max.
13:33He'll accompany you home,
13:34he'll stay with you
13:35in your apartment,
13:36and you are not to leave
13:37that apartment
13:37until this case is solved.
13:40Send in control agent 77.
13:43Who's 77?
13:44He's a new agent, Max,
13:45but he's been doing excellent work.
14:00Hello, I'm Strong,
14:01and I'm glad the Chief
14:02assigned you to me on this case.
14:03It makes me feel a lot easier.
14:05You don't have to worry, Smart.
14:06Nothing's going to happen to you
14:07as long as I'm around.
14:08The car's around over here.
14:10Fine.
14:10Oh, wait a minute, Armstrong.
14:15Before I left the house this morning,
14:1699 asked me to pick up
14:17some formula for the twins.
14:19Fine, I'll wait.
14:40Oh, my God.
14:46Oh, my God.
15:02Oh, my God.
15:07Oh, my God.
15:07Oh, my God.
15:08Come on, my God.
15:08Armstrong, where are you?
15:18Up here.
15:19Well, what are you doing up there?
15:21Just fooling around.
15:22Well, cut out the monkey business and let's get going.
15:39Now, what kind of a sick mind would mark a man for death by sending him a banana?
15:44Say, that's a good one.
15:53The aroma.
15:54You really know your bananas.
15:56Yeah, well, I ought to. I've eaten enough of them.
15:59Where's Max?
16:00He's upstairs with the twins, which reminds me, dinner's almost ready.
16:03Oh, is there anything I can help you with, Nadine?
16:05Well, you could help me open a bottle of wine if you don't mind.
16:08Hi.
16:13I'm so relieved that you're here, Agent 77.
16:15I've been so nervous ever since that banana arrived.
16:18Don't worry, 99.
16:20What's wrong?
16:22I cut my finger on the corkscrew.
16:24Well, let me see.
16:25Oh.
16:27We better put something on that.
16:28Oh, don't bother.
16:29Oh, it's no bother at all. Here.
16:35Here we go.
16:38It's awfully nice of you, 99.
16:48Oh, Max.
16:51Yeah?
16:52One of the babies is awake.
16:54Mm-mm.
16:55Which one? Mine or yours?
16:57Oh, it's time for the two o'clock feeding.
17:00Oh.
17:01I'll get this one, 99.
17:04Oh, you sure you don't mind, dear?
17:05No, not at all.
17:06Oh, thank you.
17:13Max.
17:13Max.
17:14Huh?
17:14You're asleep.
17:16Oh.
17:17Oh, that didn't take long, did it?
17:19Oh, you didn't get out of bed.
17:21Never mind, love. I'll do it.
17:22Oh.
17:23I just remembered something.
17:26I used up the last of the formula on the ten o'clock feeding.
17:29You were going to bring some more home.
17:31I did.
17:32You didn't have it when you walked in.
17:34Oh.
17:36I must have left it in the car.
17:38I'll go get it.
17:38I don't know.
17:41I'll quiet down the babies while you make the formula.
17:43I don't know.
18:13I don't know.
18:18Chaco?
18:20Chaco?
18:21This is Dr. Roth speaking.
18:24Chaco?
18:25Chaco?
18:26Chaco?
18:28Listen.
18:32Chaco?
18:34Kill Maxwell smart, then you may have your banana.
18:38But not before.
18:43Chaco, kill Maxwell smart, then you may have your banana.
18:50Chaco, what are you doing up here?
19:05Chaco, what's the matter with you?
19:06Come on.
19:09Oh,
19:09oh.
19:13Chaco, what are you doing up here?
19:18Oh.
19:19Oh.
19:23Oh.
19:24Uh?
19:25Uh?
19:27Oh.
19:27Oh.
19:29Oh.
19:29Oh?
19:30Oh.
19:31Oh.
19:32Oh.
19:32Oh.
19:32Oh.
19:33Oh.
19:33Oh.
19:34Oh.
19:34Oh.
19:35Let's go, Rattler.
20:01Oh, Max, this is the chief.
20:03Oh, thank heavens, I'm not too late.
20:05We've just taken Dr. Ratt into custody
20:07and we're on our way over there now.
20:09Now, Max, I don't know how to explain this
20:10and I don't have time anyway,
20:11but Control Agent Armstrong is an eight.
20:39Oh, my God.
21:09that's right armstrong the old fake fingertips on the
21:38fire escape trick now it becomes a contest between brute strength and superior intellect i warn you
21:48armstrong i happen to be an expert at karate judo and tempura that's one for me
22:01now we both broke one
22:08uh
22:38Max, are you all right?
23:06Yes, I'm fine, 99.
23:08Oh, Max, isn't it ironic?
23:11It took a modern jungle to kill that beast.
23:14No, 99.
23:16It was Beauty who killed the beast.
23:18Beauty?
23:20Oh, Max, thank you.
23:22Oh, I didn't mean you, 99.
23:24Beauty is the brand name of these bananas.
23:26Oh, my goodness.
23:39Oh, my goodness.
23:42Oh, my goodness.
