00:00Let's go back a year and see what we can learn from what we got right and what we got wrong
00:04in our NFL preview.
00:12The NFL season is rapidly approaching and sometimes things can move pretty fast in sports.
00:19It's good to just take a breath, look back to the past and see what we can learn from our wins and
00:25our losses. So, uh, let's start with, uh, the, the teams that we thought were overvalued going into
00:32last year. Uh, always do five of them last season. It was, uh, the 49ers, the bills, the jets, the bears
00:39and the Rams. Um, I had the, uh, 49ers at overvalued at 11 and a half wins. And that basically played
00:47out. It was red flag after red flag in the preseason. And at some point it was just, okay, this season's
00:53probably not going to go well for them. And then it was a disaster as the year went on. So that one,
00:57that one was the dub. I didn't like with Buffalo, a, the coach. Um, and we'll talk about him in a
01:03little bit. Um, B I didn't love the thought that they'll just, Oh yeah, we Khalil Shakir. They'll
01:09be fine. Kiyanka, whatever. It'll be good. Um, I, I had concerns about what they were doing at wide
01:14receiver with that team. Obviously it didn't matter. The bills were excellent again last season. And so I
01:19take the L on picking them under 10 and a half wins. Uh, the jets, I didn't buy the hype. Uh,
01:24it was specifically around Aaron Rogers. I wish I would have not bought into it more, but that was
01:29still one of the more lucrative calls was, uh, them to be under nine and a half and them to not
01:33make the playoffs. We locked that one up prettier. I don't even know if there was snow on the ground
01:37by the time we were able to, to lock that one in, uh, the Chicago bears, I had them overvalued at
01:42nine and a half wins. People were excited. I was saying like, this is how you build around a young
01:46quarterback. We didn't look at the offensive line though. Talked a bit before about the
01:50Philadelphia Eagles and the, the foundation they set that foundation was not set with the Chicago
01:55bears. And it was very apparent that it was a problem. Um, and so that, that worked out really
02:01well for us on a pretty good pick there. And then I had the Rams under eight and a half wins. I just
02:05thought it's an aging group. Injuries are going to get to them. And while a couple injuries did,
02:09they were still able to survive and advance and get to 10 wins. And so that one was a loss.
02:14So on the overvalued teams, we went three and two, but, um, I felt pretty good about that. Um,
02:20overvalued players, as we talk fantasy football on this channel, um, Puka Nakua was, uh, ranked as
02:27wide receiver eight. I said that was too high and it was, he finishes at wide receiver 33. Marvin
02:33Harrison Jr. was wide receiver nine. Uh, he ends up at wide receiver 26. So another win for us at
02:39running back Rashad white was RB 13. I just didn't think there was a whole lot there for him. And
02:44again, right. Um, as he finishes at RB 24, Stefan Diggs, the wide receiver 19 in the consensus
02:52rankings going into last year finished at wide receiver 70. So we went four for four. Can we go
02:56five for five? No, uh, because I thought Malik neighbors was overvalued at wide receiver 23.
03:02And I was very, very wrong as he comes in at wide receiver eight. So looking at the players that
03:09everyone kind of was a little bit too high on felt pretty good, nailed that one a little bit and teams
03:15that were, uh, people were too high on. All right. Feeling good. So what about the teams that I was
03:19high on that were maybe undervalued a little bit? Didn't go as well. Um, undervalued. I thought the
03:25Packers were undervalued at nine and a half wins was right on that one. Um, made some adjustments on
03:29the defensive side. Jordan love another year of development and progression. Kind of, uh, a lot of
03:34it was Josh Jacobs, but, uh, either way we got the win there, Arizona. I thought they were a sneaky
03:38pick to win that division and it was looking like it for a bit and then just kind of leveled off.
03:42Uh, but we still got there, uh, over six and a half wins, Tennessee Titans. I thought, you know what?
03:48Like Will Levis, maybe not great at quarterback, but he's okay. And they have some veteran weapons
03:52around him. They've signed a bunch of veterans on the defensive side. This is going to be okay.
03:56And then it really wasn't, um, uh, Will Levis was a disaster. A lot of guys got hurt and a lot of the
04:02other guys on the defense just didn't care. And it became a real problem for them. So, uh, took the
04:07L on that one, really right on Minnesota that people were just writing them off with what they
04:12were doing. Um, they were at seven and a half was the total. They had won seven games the year before
04:17and I thought they kind of got better. So, uh, gave them a, gave me a big dub on that. And then Miami
04:22at nine and a half, um, taking the L on that one. So I, I thought they were undervalued. I thought,
04:28hey, again, this is basically the same team from a year before. I lost a little bit in free agency,
04:32but I think they'll be okay. Uh, they were not, they were not okay. Undervalued players took a
04:36few Ls on this one. Uh, Isaiah Pacheco, it was injuries, but I got the benefit on of injuries
04:42and the overvalued one. So have to, have to take the L on it in this one. Um, I still think talent
04:47wise, he's a very good running back. Debo Samuel was an, I can't quit you guy. And I still, I find that
04:53starting to creep up with him in Washington. Oh, Terry McLaurin doesn't want to be there.
04:56All of a sudden, a few targets might be opening up for our boy Debo. Um, he was at wide receiver
05:0113 last year. I thought, Hey, this is one of the best talent or the most talented wide receivers
05:04in football. Uh, wide receiver 44. Jordan Love, I thought we were primed for a breakout out in
05:10Green Bay, quarterback nine, too low, not low enough. Uh, he was QB 17. Raheem Mostert, um,
05:16he was at RB 25. He finishes at RB 60. So that didn't go great. Uh, the one we did get right on this
05:21was Chase Brown. Um, he was listed at RB 36 and we got that one right with the dub, uh,
05:27because he finishes at RB 12. So you win some, you lose some. That was the only part that we
05:31had the losing record on. Um, and then quickly coaches on the hot seat. Uh, Sean McDermott from
05:36Buffalo was our number one and he probably was, but they had a really good year. And then the other
05:40four all got fired. Robert Salah, uh, Mike McCarthy, Doug Peterson, and Dennis Allen. Mike McCarthy,
05:45the contract not renewed, but not there anymore either way. So overall, I think we did pretty
05:51well. So what lessons can we learn from that? Uh, well, one, it's a whole lot easier to tell
05:56people what they're getting wrong instead of what you're going to, to get right. But I think when
06:00you look at the, the teams that were overvalued last year, it was the 49ers injury problems,
06:04but those injury problems were apparent right away. Um, and the Jets and the Bears, it was a lot
06:09of one, the off season, right? Like it was the, the Bears have Caleb Williams, a prospect they're
06:14all really excited about. And then they give them weapons to throw to. It's DJ Moore, it's Keenan
06:18Allen. Um, they draft Roma Dunze. Cole Komet is still existing as a tight end. So they got a lot
06:24that you really like on this team. Uh, forgot the offensive line part. And then with the New York
06:29Jets, it was basically the opposite where, yeah, Aaron Rodgers, little old, probably not that great
06:34anymore, but you like a lot of the other stuff. One of the best rosters in football. This is great,
06:39but look at the coach, look at the quarterback. They failed it on those. So just overall,
06:44try to fight your way through a lot of the hype on a few of those. Um, I like for the overvalued
06:50and undervalued players. I don't know if there was a whole lot to learn from that. And what we got
06:53wrong on the undervalued, I think I would say didn't necessarily see all the problems with Tennessee.
07:01And just because you recognize the names doesn't mean they're good anymore. So that was a problem
07:04there. And then probably for Miami, I think I just had too much of a blinder on for what I thought
07:09that offense could be. They changed it up dramatically to try to keep two up as healthy
07:13as possible. And it didn't really work. And they got annihilated in free agency going into that year.
07:18And I should have recognized that. So just kind of watching out for the off season hype as you get
07:24ready for the season is always good reminder. And, uh, I think we had that there. Uh, so that is
07:30four down football. We'll have a lot more NFL coverage to come here on couch potato diary as the
07:34weeks. Go ahead.
