Whether it's the shade of a park or the breeze of the Mersey, Liverpool's got plenty of ways to help you stay chilled when the city heats up.
Transcript
00:00When the sun is blazing down on Liverpool, there is no place quite like it.
00:05The city really does come alive when it's a proper scorcher out there.
00:08However, if the heat is getting a bit too much, let us give you some inspiration
00:12for some of the city's coolest escapes in every sense of the word.
00:17First of all, hydrate. Picture this, a cold bottle of water beading with condensation in your hand
00:22or the icy clink of a nice coffee from one of our fabulous independent coffee shops or carts.
00:27I personally prefer a nice matcha. I grabbed this one from Cornhill Coffee.
00:32In the evening, tucked away on New Bird Street in the heart of the Baltic Triangle,
00:36the Botanical Garden is a hidden spot, perfect for a drink in the warmer weather.
00:41It is a perfect garden to drink, dance and they're dog friendly too.
00:46When the sun goes down, you can keep warm in front of their fire pits.
00:49They even provide you with blankets.
00:51Now, this might not be the first place you might think of visiting on a hot day,
00:55but a trip to Liverpool Cathedral is a brilliant way to cool down.
00:59The local sandstone the building is made of means it tends to maintain a lower temperature inside,
01:04even on warmer days.
01:07Calderstones Park gives you winding shaded paths where the temperature drops
01:10as soon as you step onto the canopy.
01:13Up in the north ends, Crocsworth Park is set in over 500 acres of historic parklands.
01:18Surrounding the hall itself is a beautiful woodland pasture and nature reserve.
01:21If you can't get enough of the heat, Sefton Park's Palm House dappled light filters
01:26through the glass dome and there's a gentle earthy scent in the air, but it is rostle warm.
01:31Let the river cool you down from the action-packed aquapark to kayaking, paddleboarding and more.
01:35There's plenty of fun to be had here at Liverpool Water Sports Centre.
01:39Plus, studies have shown how swimming and aquatic activity not only help aerobic fitness,
01:44but also contribute to physical, mental and social skills and wellbeing too.
01:48Down at the pier head, the salty tang of the Mersey drifts on the breeze.
01:53Step aboard a Mersey ferry and the wind whips through your hair.
01:56Warm city air is replaced by the unmistakable freshness from the river.
02:01Shop smarter, not harder.
02:03Inside Liverpool, Waldenham, Metcourt or St John's,
02:05the shift is instant from heat to a crisp, cool indoor atmosphere.
02:10The gentle hum of air con and the relief of the shade.
02:12Plus, you don't actually have to spend any money, let's face it.
02:15Some window shopping, that's all you need for that instant relief.
02:19Now, you could head up to the coast of Crosby Beach.
02:22We hear the waves lapping.
02:23Just don't swim there, paddle.
02:25Get your feet wet.
02:26You can also head up to Form B2.
02:29And if you step into the woods there, you might just spot a flash of red squirrel.
02:33And of course, there are the homegrown tricks.
02:37Keep your curtains closed in the heat of the day.
02:40Open windows in the evening, breeze arrives.
02:42And dress light and try and shade your face if you can.
02:46So whether it is the shade of a park, the fresh salt air of the coast,
02:49or the breeze of the River Mersey,
02:51Liverpool's got plenty of ways to help you stay chilled when the city heats up.
02:56Open windows in the evening, breeze arrives.
