00:01Discipline is coming down in the NFL. We hear it all the time, like, hey, this guy got caught up on this, they ruled on this, it's a three-game suspension, it's a one-game suspension, it's a half-year suspension, or if we're going back like the Josh Gordon days, guy got suspended every single year for smoking weed, but this one, we're talking about Rasheed Rice, and this is big news, because the Kansas City Chiefs who got wasted by the Philadelphia Eagles, looking to come back this season, much healthier at the wide receiver position and more weapons here.
00:25One of those weapons is Rasheed Rice, coming off of an injury, but now also possibly for a suspension. Adam Schefter tweeted yesterday, ESPN sources, Chiefs wide receiver Rasheed Rice is expected to have his disciplinary hearing with the NFL on Tuesday, September 30th in New York.
00:40This means that Rice now is likely to be able to play the first four weeks of this season before any potential discipline is imposed for his role in a multi-car crash in Dallas during the 2024 season.
00:51So we know he's probably going to get suspended, Joe. September 30th is the hearing. Now, a lot of people work for the NFL. There's not an overwhelming about, like we talk like the criminal justice system, like we have 30,000 cases we got to get to before yours.
01:08I'm pretty sure the NFL doesn't have this. We knew Rasheed Rice got in trouble since 2024 in that car wreck. Why are we still waiting?
01:16And also from a Chiefs perspective, you're going to have this hearing during the season? Like the kid's going to play three, four weeks, and it's going to be gone for five or six weeks?
01:23How can this happen? And why doesn't this hearing happen over the summer, Joe? It's simple to me.
01:29Well, let's deconstruct it. You ready? First question I would ask, Donnie, is what are the first four games exactly for the Kansas City Chiefs this season?
01:40Oh, let's see. Well, they go to San Paolo, Brazil, to take on the Chargers in game one.
01:45OK. So he'll be there for that. Then they got week two at home against the champion Philadelphia Eagles, who wiped them across the field last year.
01:54Then it's a Sunday night football game. Big primetime game against the Giants.
01:59Yep. And then they're at home against the Baltimore Ravens, a team they likely might face in the playoffs again, as usual.
02:07So, you know, there's a four pretty important games if I'm Kansas City that I don't want to start on four.
02:14So I want to go ahead and give myself the best chance of winning.
02:17And well, Rasheed Rice, like it or not, he's a game changer for them and he will be available for those games.
02:23It is interesting. Like if you were, though, let's just say you're Andy Reid, you're Brett Veach.
02:29The NFL comes to you and says, hey, look, we can delay this a little bit.
02:32Or would you rather understand exactly right now what you have for the first four games and then be able to move on from that when it's done?
02:38Because for me, player and also coach and organization, I'd rather have that suspension start.
02:43I've got to be honest, one through four games. It's almost like you made a trade and you get him back.
02:47Like if you build that rhythm in training camp and the first four games and then it's taken away, like, yes, other guys will have to step up.
02:53We get that. But it's almost like you want that momentum to start and do nothing, Joe, but gain throughout the rest of the season.
02:59Because Rasheed Rice is not a seven year all pro player.
03:02It's like, yeah, I'm just going to pick it right up.
03:04Flashes, injury, now suspension, some choppy mix to his early career.
03:09I would just like to see him sat down for the first four games and then play if I'm Andy Reid.
03:14Well, it's interesting the timing of all of this, right?
03:17Because he was just sentenced last month, right?
03:22Sorry, about three and a half, three weeks ago that we finally learned that it's five years probation, 30 days in jail.
03:29And so we know that that handled.
03:31But the NFL never makes a decision on suspensions until everything is settled in the courts and the legal matter.
03:39So now that that is finally done, now they can put it on the docket for the same woman, I believe,
03:44who's going to overhear this, a former U.S. District Judge, Sue L. Robinson, and whatever her schedule, apparently,
03:52maybe that was the first opening.
03:54But she's the same one that overheard the Deshaun Watson case, which is what, three, four years ago now?
04:00So they don't have a ton of these.
04:02So apparently this was the first available opportunity for them to be able to get in front of her.
04:09Team total here for the Chiefs this year, Joe, 11 and a half.
04:12You take a look at the Super Bowl price point here in eight to one.
04:15Like I, the one thing that you used to take a look at the Chiefs were the ability to strike first and strike quick.
04:21When they had Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelsey, a much younger Travis Kelsey, they were absolutely electric on offense.
04:26We've missed that part, but it seems like speed is back in order at the wide receiver position for Kansas City
04:31when all three of those wide outs are there.
04:34Worthy on one side, electric speed downfield.
04:37Marquise Hollywood-Brown, electric speed on the outside.
04:39Rasheed Rice able to be that slot wide receiver with all full speed to get downfield.
04:43There's a lot to like about this Chiefs offense, which I'm interested to see how this is going to take place early in the season.
04:49But also, if Rasheed Wright gets off to a great start, like let's just say, Joe, first four games,
04:5332 catches, a few hundred yards, and a few touchdowns, then taking that away and losing that momentum,
04:59it will be interesting to watch.
05:00But you're overlooking the Chiefs on the season.
05:03It's still Andy Reid.
05:04It's still Patrick Mahomes.
05:05They're going to win games.
05:06But it is kind of fun.
05:07It's like, hey, look, man, these guys got primetime games right off the bat.
05:10Let's settle down.
05:11Now, the second four games, not as big as the first four games.
05:15So sometimes you feel like there is something to that.
05:17And you pointed it out.
05:19Marquee game, game number one, right off the bat, international market.
05:21Major eyeballs, ratings bonanza.
05:24And then you do have the Super Bowl rematch in game number two.
05:27So it is good for the NFL to say, OK, Chiefs, we'll let you go 100% in those first couple
05:31games where the most eyeballs of the entire season are going to be in early September.
05:36Those first four games, that's a brutal start to the season here.
05:42The next four games that you mentioned or that you look at there, two of them against,
05:46I think, the NFC, right?
05:48Because you have Detroit and Washington, I believe, somewhere in there.
05:51And then you sandwich in Jacksonville and the Raiders.
05:54Listen, Rasheed Rice, no Rasheed Rice.
05:56You're beating Jacksonville and the Raiders and all like, I like my chances if I'm Kansas
06:01City.
06:01And who cares if we lose the NFC teams, right?
06:04What is the big deal there?
06:06I, yeah, I would much rather if we're going to lose them and they will lose him and what
06:12we're all thinking is four games here, then it best be games, you know, five through five
06:18through eight, as opposed to one through four.
06:21Doesn't it feel though, Joe, like the Kansas City Chiefs were always in the AFC championship
06:25game, feels like always in the Super Bowl, multiple times winning the Super Bowl.
06:29It's Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.
06:30Is this year that a lot of people are finally starting to overlook the Chiefs, if you will,
06:34because nobody's done that for the past five years.
06:35Chiefs still end up being there.
06:37The Chiefs still have a good price.
06:38But for me, it was like that Buffalo Bills vibe, like, well, I had them as the it team
06:41for two years.
06:42Now they're starting to fall off.
06:43And that's when they surprise you.
06:45Are we undervaluing the Chiefs this year?
06:48Do so in your own detriment.
06:50I mean, we, we did this for how many decades with Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the Patriots?
06:57How many times every year are like, no, I ain't doing it this year.
07:01This is the year that, yeah, okay.
07:03Yeah.
07:03Keep doing it with my home.
07:05Like, we learned nothing in past indiscretions there, Donnie.
07:10Exactly.
07:10Maybe we don't.
07:11Maybe it's Kansas City's year.
07:12Maybe they come back with a vengeance.
07:14They're certainly shooting for that.
07:15But Rasheed Rice, we'll see how long that suspension's going to last.
07:17Quinshawn Judkins, suspension or no suspension?
07:20Let's play that game next.
07:23Lawyer up, baby.
07:24It's the early line right now.
07:25And I guess we could play, like, charges or no charges at this point right now, because
07:28the NFL is trying to sort out some things, which includes some superstar players that
07:32we hope can help their franchises.
07:34Maybe more than not, because they won't miss a lot of games.
07:36A Jordan Schultz report yesterday says sources, the Browns rookie running back, Quinshawn Judkins,
07:42will not face any formal charges as prosecutors have declined to move forward with the case.
07:46This clears the way for him to return to the team, and I'm told it should likely happen
07:50in the near future.
07:51Judkins, superstar running back from Ohio State, got a little bit of trouble in the offseason,
07:56has not signed his contract, but the expectations, he's going to be back sooner than later in
08:00that Browns backfield, Joe.
08:03Yeah, it will.
08:04And, you know, listen, just because the state's prosecutor has looked at the evidence and
08:11looked at this and said, you know what, there's nothing here.
08:14We're not moving forward with charges, doesn't mean that the NFL doesn't have the right still
08:19to step in if their investigators feel that where there is smoke, there is fire here.
08:25So it'll be interesting to see.
08:27This is only one half of the equation, Donnie.
08:29We know the NFL can step in at any time and be like, yeah, you know what?
08:34Yeah, he's going to be suspended a couple of games.
08:37No, Joe brings up a great topic right there, because the NFL, they sort of operate under the
08:41shield.
08:42You can be accused, if it makes the league look bad, you fall under that, you know, the
08:47NFL clause to sort of kick in at that point.
08:49There's no say where he's going to be going one, two, three, or four games.
08:53Maybe it's almost like a probationary period.
08:54You get that letter behind the scenes, don't do it again, and you'll be suspended.
08:57But make no mistake about this.
08:58Like, some people are like, hey, fantastic, clear of all charges.
09:01The NFL still could come down with a one-game suspension.
09:03But this is one of the players where, as staying away from the team, big results are expected
09:08this year in a good rookie campaign, looks like he'll be able to get back into camp and
09:12slide right into it.
09:13I wonder what his contract is going to look at, that he already had some legal issues,
09:17where if this was a Cincinnati Bengals where they got Shamar, I mean, it guy would never
09:21be signed at this point.
09:22No, and I got to tell you, they need him, too, because they have Jerome Ford as the running
09:29back right now in camp.
09:31Like, he's it.
09:32He's in the final year of his rookie deal.
09:35He even took a pay cut just to make sure that he actually was guaranteed a roster spot.
09:41Pierre Strong Jr. is the other guy, but he's a special teamer.
09:46So the reason they got Jenkins was to be the guy, right, to give them some options in the
09:52backfield.
09:53And if you're only going to have Jerome Ford in the backfield for a while, they're going
09:59to have to be signing some guys sooner rather than later.
10:03Travion Henderson in that backfield.
10:05Crenshaw Judkins last year for Ohio State.
10:07Both of these guys are going to make big impacts in the pros, and maybe Judkins can finally
10:10get his career underway here.
10:12I'll tell you, he hasn't had his career underway just yet, playing a lot of action.
10:15That's Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
10:17Ian Rappaport's tweet yesterday.
10:19The Steelers coach, Mike Tomlin, tells reporters that veterans such as Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf,
10:24TJ Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Cam Ward won't play in their second preseason game
10:28amongst others here.
10:30Trying to stay fresh.
10:31It's a veteran locker room.
10:32You know what's important in Pittsburgh.
10:34It's not winning the Super Bowl.
10:35It's making sure you secure that ninth win of the season.
10:39That's what they're trying to do here, Joe.
10:41Slow and steady.
10:42Stay healthy.
10:43We'll all eventually get there.
10:45Let's be realistic here.
10:47It's, you know, who they got this week in preseason here, Donnie.
10:53Who are they playing in week two of this preseason?
10:57Because, yeah, yeah, that's, uh, whoever it is, because they've been running joint camps
11:04here, uh, all Tampa, Tampa, right?
11:07So, and we already know Todd Bowles is a guy that wants nothing to do with playing starters
11:12during the preseason.
11:13He's another guy that you'd be lucky to see anybody on the Tampa side that actually means
11:18anything, uh, come this season.
11:20So you got to do that.
11:22I mean, Aaron Rodgers is still trying to figure out how to fit the helmet on his head.
11:26So, you know, he looks like Lord helmet and he's not happy about it.
11:30So he, uh, there's some issues going on with Pittsburgh right now.
11:35By the way, remember when Antonio Brown was burning his feet and taking, uh, balloon rides
11:39into camp and not showing up and then threatening to screw the NFL because he couldn't use his
11:43helmet.
11:43Then eventually getting cut and finding his way to the New England Patriots.
11:46Those were fun times.
11:47We're not saying Aaron Rodgers is going to do that same thing, but play out the scenario
11:50for me, Joe, Sunday, 1 PM kickoff.
11:54And that's September 7th, the New York jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
12:00What happens if the Pittsburgh Steelers lose to the New York jets week?
12:04Number one.
12:06Oh, it's, uh, it's going to be fun.
12:08And don't think there won't be some juice in that building, but I mean, the reality is
12:12different regime, different time, different everything there for the, uh, for the jets.
12:18But don't forget fields was a former Pittsburgh dealer.
12:24Not too long ago as well.
12:26So interesting week one matchup.
12:29And by the way, the whole backdrop of this is fantastic with these two quarterbacks,
12:33but let's remember this, the Steelers wanted Justin Fields.
12:36He's like, dude, I'm out of here, man.
12:37You hated me.
12:38I'm going to the jets.
12:39That should be a fun one.
12:40You know what else is fun preseason action tonight, people?
12:44Come on back.
12:45Get excited, Joe.
12:47Now times have changed in the NFL.
12:49Sonny writes out of show.
12:49We're near.
12:50It's the early line.
12:50You're cup of Joe early in the morning and away we go.
12:54It used to be like preseason game.
12:55Number one, nobody played preseason game.
12:58Number two starters got like a snap preseason game.
13:01Number three.
13:01Oh, look, we might play a quarter preseason for game.
13:04Number four.
13:04Nobody plays anything.
13:05But now we're condensed into three games where a lot more practices and joint practices take place.
13:10So you get what you get in these preseason games.
13:12But now with the, hey, guys, you know, we've taken it too easy over the past couple of preseasons.
13:17Maybe we should play some starters does add to the intrigue.
13:20But there's no longer Joe, like the formula we used to flow through.
13:23Like, wait a second.
13:24The only game you could probably bet and get a really good feel on is game number three.
13:27Because the coaches will tell you X and O's.
13:30We're going to game plan.
13:31Starters are going to play for maybe a first half.
13:33Like, oh, this might be intriguing to tune into.
13:35How do we approach, like, week two of the preseason when you're trying to read what the coaches are doing,
13:39but we don't have that 15 years of, hey, we only play three preseason games,
13:44and this is the way it always goes down.
13:47Well, I mean, listen, you pay attention, right?
13:50You do your research.
13:51You do your homework.
13:52And you have an understanding of what teams are trying to accomplish here in the preseason.
13:58I mean, there is a reason, Donnie, why, and I don't think it was a fluke,
14:02that we got how many overs in week one of the preseason?
14:07I mean, every game, especially in the second half, whether starters were in or not, was going over.
14:14And the reason is also the defensive side of the ball across the board in week one,
14:21there was a lot of cover, too, a lot of, they weren't really doing a whole heck of a lot.
14:28So offenses were able to go out there.
14:30Everything was a two-minute drill, it felt like.
14:33Everybody was trying to execute, hurry up offenses, and that's why we got a ton of points.
14:39So whether starters play or don't play, I don't know that that changes, that concept changes this week.
14:46I think we're going to get a lot of up-tempo, the stuff that matters come the regular season,
14:52that you necessarily can't, you can't practice that in real time, you know,
14:57at a Tuesday afternoon practice across from your teammates.
15:02Like, this is the stuff that I think teams have decided they're going to be working on.
15:06And that leads to a lot more points, because the defenses aren't trying to mix up the offenses right now.
15:12No, and it'll be interesting to see, too, because we'll take a look at the first games
15:15and the Tennessee Titans at the Atlanta Falcons.
15:17The line for the Titans, they are favored at minus three-and-a-half points,
15:20and a total listed at over 37-and-a-half.
15:23I know you can't really judge, Joe, like game number one to game number two.
15:27Titans got smashed, came well in a couple snaps, maybe gets more tonight at this point.
15:30But there's a reason why oddsmakers have put the Tennessee Titans at a minus three-and-a-half.
15:35Like, are we not going to see a lot of Michael Penix?
15:36Do we get to see Kirk Cousins in this game?
15:38Are the Falcons just saying we're going to sit this one out?
15:40Because there's sometimes where you read the tea leaves, and early in the week,
15:43like, we'll get to the Kansas City Chiefs game in just a few moments,
15:46where Big Red's like, hey, you know what?
15:47I don't think, you know, Patrick Mahomes is playing.
15:50Instant line move.
15:51There's a reason where the Titans got smashed in week number one,
15:54now we're on the road in a preseason game number two,
15:55and our three-and-a-half-point favorites here, Joe.
15:58Yeah, and we already know Cam Ward's going to be back under center again for this one.
16:04What did he go?
16:04Five of eight, 67 yards.
16:06Him and Calvin Ridley seem to be on the same page there.
16:11He's not going to play as long as he did in the first game.
16:14But they said he's going to be out there for a couple of series.
16:17And yes, when you have young quarterbacks like Cam Ward, who are the possible future,
16:23yes, we are told that Penix Jr. won't play for the Falcons here.
16:29We're also being told there's a whole lot of other starters now
16:33that won't be in the game for the Falcons here tonight.
16:37And that's fine, but Cam Ward is going to play because they've got to get him up to speed quickly here
16:44as the NFL season regular, you know, the games are going to start mattering here in three weeks.
16:51Yeah, we don't get a lot of individual player props for games here,
16:54but some outlets do allow us to do that.
16:56If we take a look at FanDuel, Cam Ward to throw a touchdown pass on his first offensive drive
17:01is a plus-460 price.
17:03Tony Pollard to score a touchdown on his first offensive drive is a plus-650.
17:06I don't necessarily love those type of props because, first of all, it's hard to score a touchdown in an NFL game anyway,
17:12let alone, okay, I'm going to take the opening drive and go down the field,
17:15but at least, you know, the defense is probably tuned up and excited and ready to go.
17:18But the Tennessee Titans, Joe, to throw one touchdown pass in this entire game is minus 400,
17:24and to throw two touchdown passes as a team, it's a plus-130.
17:28If they're the favorites, and we have a total around 40 points,
17:30you could probably factor in what?
17:32At least three touchdowns possibly for the Titans today?
17:35Do we think one or two, at least, can come from the pass?
17:39Yeah, I think that's, you know, each team has got something to work on coming into this week, right?
17:45And we didn't see a whole lot from the passing game with Cam Ward.
17:49I mean, it was nice, but I think maybe they opened it up a little bit, pushed the ball down the field.
17:55One of Cam Ward's traits here is that he can air it out.
17:59He's got a pretty good deep ball.
18:00We'll see if they take a few shots here and give them an opportunity to get something going.
18:06Let's take some shots here with game number two.
18:08That's the Kansas City Chiefs and the Seattle Seahawks, Joe.
18:11We had some line movement this week where you saw the Kansas City Chiefs were favorites here.
18:15The minute you start talking about it, I don't think Patrick Holmes is playing.
18:18You knew that line was going to swing.
18:19So let's just say a minus two and a half, minus three point favorite for the Chiefs has quickly turned into a three point dog price for the Kansas City Chiefs in a total sitting there at 39 and a half.
18:28Some fun bets in this one.
18:30Sam Darnold, Jackson Smith and Jigba, Cooper Cup, everybody to score a touchdown on their first drive.
18:35If Darnold throws a touchdown on the first offensive drive, that's a plus 330, but you could double up, Joe.
18:40Darnold's going to, he throws, somebody's got to catch it.
18:42If it is Jackson Smith and Jigba, 11 to one, Cooper Cup, 14 to one.
18:46Any belief here that the Chiefs looking to sit their starters is a positive for the Seahawks, and that's why you should play the Seahawks tonight.
18:53Yeah, and listen, last week we saw against, what was it, Arizona, the Chiefs played, where we got both Kyler Murray and Patrick Mahomes and the starters out there for the game.
19:03You and I laughed.
19:04We said, yeah, we'll take the first half over here if they're going to push the starters in this one.
19:08Probably not going to get a lot of that one here, right?
19:12I mean, this one, I think, will be a lot of, what, Gardner Minshew kind of situation here.
19:18I think that the backups are going to be on full display in this game here tonight.
19:24And quite honestly, if I'm Kansas City, what am I looking for outside of maybe a couple of reps here or there for Mahomes and the starters?
19:33I really need to figure some other things out.
19:35Yeah, you got 39.5 as a total in this game.
19:38If we're just looking for the Kansas City Chiefs for one touchdown pass in the game, that's a minus 330 price.
19:44If we switch that over to Seattle, that's a minus 400 price.
19:48Rushing touchdowns, which you see a lot.
19:50Like, some of these teams, you know, they get inside the five-yard line, they're going to run it four straight times.
19:54You know, first down yard, second down yard, third down yard.
19:57Oh, look, fourth and goal at the six-inch line.
19:58We're not kicking a field.
19:59We're not throwing a pass.
20:00Let's run it in again.
20:01For Seattle to have one rushing touchdown tonight, minus 330, Kansas City, one-plus rushing touchdowns, a minus 122.
20:08I'm just going to fan numbers here.
20:09But you can't parlay them together.
20:11Like, I would actually, like, if you told me, say, Don, do you think Seattle's going to have a rushing touchdown?
20:14Yeah, I do.
20:15Same thing with the Chiefs?
20:16Absolutely.
20:17It'd be nice to parlay that into plus money, but you can't do that and you're laying heavy juice.
20:21What are you more comfortable, Joe?
20:22Like, just not talking about tonight, like Seattle and, let's just say, Kansas City.
20:25If you had to pick, like, do you like the angle of touchdown passes in a preseason game or actually rushing touchdowns in a preseason game?
20:33Yeah, well, it depends on the quarterbacks, right, and what the offense is trying to do.
20:38But given the state of what we saw in week one, Donnie, in the preseason where the just utter lack of anything other than a cover two and some prevent defenses here,
20:50Yeah, it's, I would opt to say that teams might have a better chance of airing it out and throwing more touchdowns than anything else.
20:58Yeah, taking a look here at the Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks outside of, obviously, Patrick Mahomes, Gardner Minshew, Bailey Zappi, Chris Olatacun,
21:09and then, of course, Patrick Mahomes at this point.
21:10So, a lot of backups looking to get some action and run.
21:12I understand this, too.
21:13Like, they're trying to make the football team, even if it is Gardner Minshew, he's not going to go out there and be like,
21:16Hey, man, don't let me throw the football.
21:18Let me hand it off.
21:19Like, these guys want a gunsling out here.
21:20It'll be interesting to see how this game does play out if Patrick Mahomes does not start.
21:25But whenever Andy Reid is up in the air on something, you can't trust it.
21:28I mean, I've known for years when he was with the Eagles, Donovan McNabb's going to play that first half.
21:33Six plays, 52 yards, a field goal.
21:35Okay, bring him out for the game.
21:36Like, whoa, Big Red.
21:38Thought he was playing the whole half.
21:39He played one series.
21:40You always have to take these coachings with a grain of salt here, Joe.
21:43Yeah, but you really, you really, really do.
21:47So, week two is about cleaning up mistakes from week one as well, Donnie.
21:51A lot of that could be going on this week also.
21:55Let's go on a watch list here for this weekend because it is a full slate of preseason games, a Sunday night football game.
22:02Let's look at Caleb Williams.
22:03Joe loves Caleb Williams.
22:04He wants Joe saying MVP, Caleb.
22:07Talk about it next.
22:08Remember the TV guy, Joe Ranieri, as we date ourselves?
22:11You're like, hey, man, what's on TV?
22:12Like, you don't know how good you have it today, kids, where you actually have to just change the channel to find something on and stumble onto a good show.
22:19And if you were lucky enough as a kid to get HBO because it was a luxury in the 1980s, you just had to wait on the sea like, okay, this movie's on.
22:27Maybe I'll catch this movie.
22:28You have no idea.
22:29Now we have everything at our fingertips here to say, you know what?
22:32We need a new TV guy.
22:33That new TV guy, Joe, is the early line.
22:35We got to get you ready so you understand what's going to happen this weekend across the NFL landscape.
22:40Tonight, we have two football games we just previewed.
22:42One at 7 o'clock, it's Tennessee and Atlanta.
22:44One at 10 o'clock at night, Kansas City and Seattle.
22:47Fantastic.
22:47Back-to-back, you can watch them and enjoy yourself.
22:49We have a plethora of football games starting at 1 o'clock on Saturday on the preseason schedule and ending with the last game at 9.30.
22:58Then, Joe, we're souping you up.
23:00You got to get ready for Sunday football.
23:02It's coming right around the corner.
23:03You got two games on Sunday.
23:05Jacksonville, New Orleans, Buffalo, and Chicago.
23:08And you know what else you have, Joe?
23:10Monday night football from D.C., Cincinnati and Washington.
23:15The NFL is giving you what you want Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Joe.
23:21Yeah.
23:22And a couple of games of interest on this week's list, right?
23:25Number one, we know Shador Sanders and his oblique injury kind of throws a wrench into things.
23:32However, it does appear that Dylan Gabriel will be healthy enough and we'll get our first look at him for the Browns.
23:39But on the other side, my goodness, Mr. Tanner McGee looked like he could be a starter for any NFL team this year for your Eagles.
23:51And I doubt very much we're getting any of Jalen Hurts again in this one.
23:56So what are we expecting from the Eagles against the Browns in this one here?
24:01Donnie, what are you hearing?
24:03Yeah, how about minus one and a half, Joe, at the opening number.
24:06And then all of a sudden, Shador Sanders doesn't play.
24:08We jump to four at most outlets right now.
24:10Shador Sanders, the key cog in the ingredients there for the Cleveland Browns, a very vanilla scheme.
24:16And again, any time, Joe, it's relatively new, like in the past decade, where these teams practice against each other, put all that hard work in,
24:21and then tell the fans, like, yeah, you're going to pay full price for this ticket, but we don't care about this.
24:26We only cared about the practices.
24:27The NFL still gets over on these preseason games, but I expect very vanilla schemes out of both of these.
24:32And I was looking forward to, hey, how's Shador Sanders going to back up that week number one and the week number two?
24:37Does he play well again?
24:38Is he really pushing Joe Flacco?
24:39Does Stefanski want to make him the starter into the NFL season?
24:42Those are things I think we get robbed of, or maybe a major storyline that we could have taken a look at.
24:47But there are a lot of intriguing matchups through the weekend,
24:49and watching some of these quarterbacks that are going to progress.
24:52But I do like the fact that we are getting, because as much as the NFL needs practice,
24:56like for the players and dress rehearsals, we get that now, Joe, this weekend with primetime action.
25:01Like Sunday night football.
25:03That's the Sunday night football crew doing Buffalo and Chicago.
25:05That's the Monday night crew doing Cincinnati and Washington.
25:07I love that because it gives us that feel and the vibe of the bigness that's going to come back.
25:11Was there a game that you were looking at this weekend, like matchup-wise,
25:16that you really wanted to get involved in?
25:18Because I knew last week coming in, like the rookie quarterbacks,
25:21that's always going to be something that we want to watch.
25:22Like Jets and the Giants.
25:24Like, hey, who's going to win that game?
25:25I mean, it's not really a battle for New York in the preseason.
25:28But can I say a little Jackson Dart?
25:29I liked what I saw with him against the Buffalo Bills.
25:31Does he get a little bit more PT?
25:33Or is it one of those, like, we promised Russ the starting job.
25:36Let's not put Dart in good situations because the fans are going to get upset right away.
25:39Like, those are the things I'm interested in this weekend.
25:42Yeah, I'm going to be very interested to see what happens there.
25:46I mean, the Jets, obviously, new regime, new head coach, new attitude.
25:52They are certainly taking, it appears, the preseason to heart.
25:57And I don't think the level of toughness in that game is going to be interesting.
26:02But, like you said, rookie quarterback situation there.
26:05We've got a couple of backup quarterback situations that have to be rectified.
26:11Like, Hendon Hooker is not working out for the Detroit Lions here.
26:17If he is going to be Jared Goff's backup, I mean, Dan Campbell just pulled him.
26:22I think he pulled him early in last week's game.
26:24Kyle Allen?
26:26I mean, there are some teams where we got to figure it out.
26:30Who's backing up Tua?
26:32Quinn, yours couldn't, I mean, he couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat there.
26:35So, there are a few teams and a few games in which we better figure out,
26:42is Zach Wilson really the guy backing up Tua?
26:45Boy, oh boy, Dolphin fans holding their breath.
26:48But we'll figure it out after this week's game for sure.
26:52I'm telling you, the Dolphins are a balloon with a bunch of kids looking to pop that balloon right now
26:57and end their season.
26:58And, like, you want to have a week-to-week soap opera.
27:00Just watch the Miami Dolphins this year.
27:02The vibe's got to be like an all-time low, and that is just an absolute powder keg.
27:06Now, granted, the preseason, I don't really care if they win their wins or losses at this point.
27:10Stacking up doesn't matter.
27:11I can't wait to watch them in the regular season.
27:12But let's focus, Joe.
27:13Sunday Night Football, you know who that is with?
27:16Buffalo Bills and the Chicago Bears.
27:18Big dealings.
27:19Why?
27:19Caleb Williams?
27:20Maybe some extensive playing time that we're going to watch in front of a national audience.
27:24I know you're not supposed to do this.
27:26He was a rookie last year.
27:27It's a new head coach this year.
27:28It's a brand-new system getting put in.
27:30But doesn't it always feel like we watch Caleb Williams in a referendum game?
27:33Like, if he goes out on Sunday Night Football and really struggles, ah, this guy can't play.
27:37Or if he plays really well, like, whoa, Bears look like they're on something.
27:41Like, this feels like this game has way too much hype, and there is a reason why the NFL put this on Sunday Night Football.
27:46Yeah, there is.
27:48And listen, they're Ben Johnson and company.
27:51We get a look at the new Caleb Williams, who, by all indications, and from what I'm reading, Donnie,
27:59is having a hard time picking up Ben Johnson's system now during practices.
28:04So we'll see what happens in real game here.
28:08And by the way, let's not forget, Sean McDermott, he's pretty good in preseason games.
28:13He is another guy that wants, thinks winning is a culture.
28:18He wants to be competitive.
28:19He pushes his teams.
28:21And while, listen, are we going to get Josh Allen, James Cook?
28:25Are we going to get the starters for a while in this week?
28:29Probably not.
28:30But I have a whole lot of confidence in the Bills' backups here to keep this game very close
28:36with the possibility of them winning it in the second half.
28:40Ah, how about Baltimore and Dallas show?
28:42Micah Parsons?
28:43I think he signs, gets in that uniform, gets a couple pass rushes here, getting on against
28:46the Buffalo Bills, or excuse me, against the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson?
28:50What did he say about that one?
28:52Yeah, no, probably not.
28:53He'll not be on the field, Donnie, I think.
28:56What does it say if he does get to the field without a contract, essentially, without a new
29:02deal?
29:02What message is that sending to Jerry, who has him on the contract anyway, but he ain't risking
29:09anything going out on that field?
29:10By the way, was it Chris Jones last year or the year before who, like, didn't sign late,
29:15and then they actually had the picture of him, like his agent, watching the football game
29:18from the stands in week number one?
29:19That would be fantastic.
29:21Micah Parsons in Philadelphia watching from the stands in an Eagles jersey.
29:25How about that twist?
29:27Let's keep it in Philadelphia, Tom.
29:28We got a huge weekend coming up in preseason action, which does start tonight.
29:32Two games tonight, Tom.
29:32Full slate Saturday.
29:33We got Sunday night football and even Monday night football action.
29:36Love to see that.
29:37But the regular season is fast approaching, the Philadelphia Eagles taking on the Dallas
29:40Cowboys on the opening Thursday night.
29:42Tell me you got some action, possibly, on a Philadelphia Eagles player here with a prop
29:46we should all be looking at.
29:48Yeah, let's go to Jalen Hurts, over 31-75.5 passing yards on the entire season.
29:55Now, last year, he finished with 2,903, 2,903 passing yards.
29:59He didn't miss a game, or I should take two games at the end of the season.
30:02He left that game versus the Commanders early.
30:05I'm looking at this as a totality of what we're going to get from the Eagles.
30:08Five starters on defense are not there anymore.
30:11And this is not to say that the starters or the players stepping into the starting roles
30:14weren't on the team last year.
30:15But I'm going to say the Eagles defense is weaker than it was last year.
30:18Not bad, just a little bit weaker.
30:20Also, I don't expect Saquon Barkley to be pushing to 2,000 rushing yards every single season.
30:25So, if his yards are scaled back, the defense is a little bit weaker.
30:28They're not playing from in front as much later in games.
30:31That just means Hurts has to pass the ball a little bit more.
30:3420 yards here, 30 yards there.
30:36So, when we need an extra 300 for him to go from 2,903 last year to get to essentially 3,200,
30:41again, it's not 300 yards in one game.
30:43We're talking about 20 or 30 yards here or there.
30:45They pass it just a little bit more.
30:47They keep Saquon healthy late in the season.
30:49Their defense is just a little bit weaker.
30:51And all it adds up to, Hurts having a better passing year than he did last year.
30:54So, over 3,175 Hurts passing yards for the season.
