00:00They changed the bike to match that, he's gotten better and better, those are the opportunities, James, that you were talking about, yes, the focus will be on Jet Lawrence trying to win the title today, but a lot of other riders in the gate trending in the right direction.
00:18There's always been drama hanging in the air at Unadilla, will there be another story this year as the Reds come up and the gate is down?
00:30And Prado is going to get a good start on the Navi tire and oh, he's right in the middle, fighting for the leave in Hampshire, he's got it.
00:40Great start by Jorge, I saw him out today, he leaned on Jet Lawrence, which tells me he wants to be up front, great start, that's JT mentioned, RJ, you give him the start the way he's been riding, let's get in the lead, there it is.
00:53Wow, so Rockstar Husqvarna leads to Monster Kawasaki, there's Hunter Lawrence and the Honda HRC Progressive, third in Ken Roxxon Ford.
01:03Yeah, track's a little raceable, a lot more raceable, I believe, in the beginning than that 250 class, they put a little bit of water down, but now track was starting to bake in, as Hunter Lawrence slides up the inside of Jorge Prado, let's see if Jorge can get back around them on the outside, slams it in that corner.
01:18And then Chen Lawrence makes the move on Roxxon from fourth, so we got a couple of contenders up front early.
01:26Roxxon fighting back against Jet as Jet challenges Prado, Prado, challenging Hunter.
01:31Oh, big mistake by Jet, it lost the front end and it hooked up, almost goes down, but I think he's going to stay in ahead of Ken Roxxon as Ken Roxxon goes back around them.
01:41Roxxon's fantastic, you say it's a little racy right now, you're not kidding.
01:44Yeah, these guys, they know, I mean, they did put that water down, they want to get that clean track, one, because of Roos, but...
01:54Now, we mentioned, by the way, Chase Sexton not in it, we talked about that at the top of the show, the crash last week, he has called it a season for pro motocross, hopefully he's back for the playoffs, Roxxon and Lawrence battling uphill, and now Tomek in the picture.
02:06Oh, you see, Roxxon put that power down there at Suzuki, and now you see Eli Tomek.
02:12Oh, Tomek, using the inside line on Roxxon, unbelievable action on this first lap.
02:19These guys are going for, look at these ruts right down here.
02:24Like, Jet looks like he's going to be hung out to drive, Ken can get a nice drive.
02:28No, he's going to turn it into a pass on Prado!
02:30And that's what Jet Lawrence does, when you think he's hung out, no, he's going to figure out how to do it, let's see what Ken does, square him up, get on the inside, nice move, had to do a double turn right there, he's better cut Jorge off.
02:42Not able to do it, Prado going to try to get Roxxon back, first time we've ever really seen these two battle before.
02:52Prado on the inside, Roxxon to the outside.
02:54Oh, Ken had that pass made, he still might have it, he made a mistake in that corner.
03:00Unreal how Roxxon's able to come back, we asked him this yesterday, we said, what are you doing here?
03:06He's like, that's a good question, I'm not sure, but he's riding well right now anyway, prepared or not.
03:10No, he's riding good, he talks about it on race day live, anybody, any rider, Ken Roxxon's one of those guys that can be missed all the time, they come out here like he's been racing all year long.
03:19To have this intensity, it just shows you how good he's been his whole career and he's opening parts of the lap.
03:24Looks like Jorge Prado, Eli Tomax got around him.
03:27So with RJ Hampshire leading that first lap, nine different riders have led laps in 450 motocross that, this year that is an awesome stat.
03:37I know at the end of the day it's consistently been the same riders winning, Jen Lawrence, most of them, Hunter Lawrence and Chase Sexton each got one, but a lot of riders have been battling GT.
03:47Yeah, we were watching Hunter Lawrence here go to work on RJ Hampshire and I think this is a track where Hunter has a lot of confidence.
03:53Remember, he was able to out-duel Chase Sexton and Emoto here when he got on that same 2025 chassis that we see him here on today.
04:02So things like that resonate.
04:04Remember places where you've had a lot of success.
04:06So coming in here today, I would bet he woke up with a little pep in his step.
04:10Yeah, he probably did, but then he realized how mad brother probably was after last weekend.
04:15But RJ, I think as this race goes on, if he can stay up here, he'll get better.
04:20Sometimes when you get out front, you don't really know what to do with it.
04:23We used to RJ continue fighting his way up.
04:25So this lead and dictate the pace might be new to him.
04:29So far, so good.
04:30Fans are loving this action early in this moto.
04:36Katie.
04:36Yeah, talking with the team, they made minor adjustments between qualifying sessions that actually translated well.
04:41We're seeing that with RJ.
04:44You know, he is one of four riders that finished top ten in all of the nine motocross rounds.
04:49And he had that season best at Ironman.
04:51I asked him why.
04:52He said, well, I'm gelling with the bike.
04:53And we're making these improvements each week, fine-tuning comfort and suspension.
04:57But he did say he still doesn't think he's there.
05:00He still thinks there's more in the tank.
05:02And the team are trying to work on finding more comfort for RJ, though he is up up front right now.
05:08Yeah, it was interesting to hear that last week with that podium ride.
05:12It certainly seemed good.
05:13But he still said there's something different between the way it clicks during the week.
05:18And he's still trying to figure out a way to make that happen on Saturdays.
05:22But he's riding well right now.
05:24It's kind of a rematch of the old days.
05:25We saw plenty of Lawrence brothers, the Hampshire, in the 250-class, both Supercross and Motocross.
05:32And they're all back now on 450s.
05:35Yeah, they're back.
05:36And, you know, the biggest thing with RJ, he's on the bike.
05:39He's a practice bike.
05:40He's a little bit more worn out.
05:41He's on the track day.
05:42He's got thousands of laps on.
05:43And when you come to the race, just things are different.
05:45You know, Bell's fans.
05:46So it always feels different.
05:48But I've been impressed all year long.
05:50As we're watching the two brothers go at it with RJ, he's been getting better and better.
05:54Finally got that podium.
05:55And now he's got some leading laps now.
05:58Yeah, a couple of L.
05:59As Jett is really leaning on Hunter now for the number two spot.
06:03I like this outside line from Jett.
06:07This next one, he just continues that momentum.
06:09We're just going to put him back up the inside.
06:11But Hunter got out of that one.
06:13And the next battle, bottom there is Tomac versus Broxon.
06:17That is for fourth.
06:19Jett Lawrence is going to try the outside.
06:20Hunter Lawrence, not enough.
06:22Going to put him inside, though.
06:25You can see how much lower Jett stayed off that jump.
06:28So all he needed to do was get beside him, which he did.
06:31Good move on 18.
06:32So he's in the second.
06:33That bottom box again, Broxon and Tomac.
06:35Tomac not quite able to find room.
06:37And the Lawrences are just in front of them.
06:40You know Tomac would like to hitch a ride.
06:43As Jett is now ready to attack Hampshire.
06:46Yeah, when you make this pass, maybe RJ doesn't, you know, he's used to having Hunter behind him.
06:50So Jett might have an opportunity to strike before RJ realizes that he's there.
06:58See what Jett does here.
07:00Stays outside.
07:01Maybe he'll try to square up and get that bike set up to go around RJ.
07:05Oh, unbelievable.
07:08Leap from the bottom, then leaps over the top and leaps into the lead.
07:12What a move by Jett.
07:15That was pretty.
07:15And God getting away now as they scale the top of the wall.
07:20JT.
07:22You know, we talk about Jett a lot.
07:25And I praise him a lot because of the things he does.
07:28But if you're ever wondering, you know, you hear the likes of James Stewart or Ricky Carmichael talk about Jett being a little bit different or being really special.
07:36It moves exactly like that.
07:37It moves exactly like that.
07:38We're really not even expecting a pass to be possible.
07:40It doesn't even look like he's setting a pass up and he still finds a way to make it work.
07:45Those are the things that are just not common.
07:47Even though most of the best riders we've ever seen, they're not common.
07:51So I just thought it was a great example of when you hear the legends of yesteryear talk about a rider being that special.
07:57That was a great example of why.
07:59Watching Hunter battling it out with RJ.
08:01What do you think of that pass?
08:03We'll give you the replay here.
08:04James Stewart, Hall of Famer.
08:05Are you going to do it?
08:06Yeah, well, you can see this.
08:07I think Jett learned from that when he was able to get around.
08:10I believe it was Ken Rockson or one of the guys earlier in that same section.
08:15And he knew once he called RJ down here, he has an opportunity where he wants to square him up.
08:20Now he realizes RJ is in the middle part of the track.
08:22RJ is spinning up.
08:23So you just go around the outside of him.
08:25And that was all set up.
08:26So, yeah, Jett knows how to get this thing done.
08:29And to me, he's one of the best racers on figuring out how to do stuff that we have in this field in all time.
08:34And that's what you're just seeing, him figuring out.
08:37And now he's got a gap.
08:39So you think RJ was getting some of that wheel spin at the bottom of the hill?
08:41Yeah, like Jett was, to me, it looked like he was going to wait.
08:44Either if RJ went outside, he was going to square it up and go inside as Eli is still trying to work on Ken Rockson here.
08:50Got him.
08:51Yep.
08:51Once he saw RJ in the middle of part of that track, he knew there was no traction.
08:55So he'd just go around the outside of him.
08:57But had a two-for-one.
08:59Either go inside or outside.
09:00He figured it out.
09:01Yep.
09:02And now it's starting to pull away, like you said.
09:03But Hampshire holding Hunter Lawrence at bay.
09:06Let's see if Tomac, now that he's gone around Rockson, can he bridge that gap?
09:12Got about three seconds between Tomac and fourth.
09:14Hunter Lawrence in third.
09:17This might be a better position for RJ to be in.
09:20Now, like I said, when you're dictating the pace, when you're not used to dictating the pace,
09:24sometimes it can be uncomfortable.
09:25So maybe if he can stay here, looks like he got a little bit more gap on Hunter Lawrence.
09:30So he's not really necessarily worried about him as far as running the lines.
09:35It's going to be hard.
09:35But maybe he can keep that 18 in sight.
09:37Get him again at the end of the moto.
09:38Yeah, he's definitely shed some of the pressure from Hunter, at least at the moment.
09:47About 10 minutes into this, a furious first couple of laps.
09:50It's settled down now.
09:51The Tomac, fourth, Rockson, fifth, Prado back to sixth.
09:54Verandus, seventh.
09:56Webster, eighth.
09:57Justin Cooper, ninth.
09:58And McElrath is tenth.
10:01Barsha, 11.
10:01And this is going to be the watch right now.
10:05Hampshire versus Hunter versus second.
10:07Hampshire throwing down now.
10:08Yeah, RJ, that last section was really good.
10:11He looks a lot calmer to me.
10:13It looks like Jet Lawrence is off the racetrack.
10:15Now, look, you said maybe he'll get the 18 back.
10:17I didn't even want to comment on that, but here it is.
10:19He's done it.
10:20I'm trying to hope now Jet's going to try to get him right back.
10:23But to me, it was more focused on what RJ was doing.
10:26And as quickly as that, there you go.
10:28He's back around him.
10:29Well, thanks for making it interesting.
10:30Let's see if RJ is going to run the rail around the outside.
10:35Not quite enough.
10:36Yeah, lightning is very rare.
10:38It strikes twice in the same spot.
10:39So let's see what happened to the leader here.
10:45As Jet Lawrence went off the track at the top of Gravity Cavity.
10:47Yeah, this is that split lane on the top of our screen.
10:50Oh, he hit all the lanes.
10:52Yeah, so he was on the inside.
10:53He must have hit that wall.
10:55Did a good job at not going down because you have to go back across two different walls.
10:58But nonetheless, a little mistake given a lot of hope made JS somewhat true by saying he might better get him back.
11:05And I don't know if I'll make that one again.
11:08I don't know.
11:08That's why you're in the Hall of Fame, I guess, man.
11:10Nostradamus-like prediction.
11:12Hunter also has been able to close because RJ and Jet got in that brief little battle there.
11:16And Hunter's back in it.
11:19But I will say this.
11:20What he's doing is allowing Eli to keep an eye on these guys.
11:25And the way practice went for Eli, he didn't look comfortable at all.
11:30And giving up the Star Racing Yamaha for making him, making those changes, it's a lot more comfortable.
11:36And these guys are pushing right now.
11:38JT, what do you see for the 96?
11:39I just mentioned in Tomac there, the last lap around just before this section, I saw Hunter take a look back.
11:45And a lot of times when you see riders looking back, that's a clear sign that they're going to go backwards.
11:50I don't think this is necessarily that.
11:52I think Hunter just wanted to assess the threat.
11:53He wanted to know where Eli Tomac was, make sure nobody was making a charge from behind him,
11:58which would then dictate the urgency on which he would have to approach RJ Hampshire.
12:02So if you see Eli Tomac making a move, I think you'll see Hunter push a lot more.
12:06You can already tell he's up the ante a little bit on this lap.
12:08Yeah, you're 100% right, JT.
12:10He wasn't looking back, you know, for that reason.
12:13He was looking back to keep an eye because now Eli is closing.
12:16And they know how Eli is.
12:18They give him a little bit of confidence.
12:19He will push that gap.
12:20And now what you said, you're starting to see Hunter push it up on RJ here.
12:27Still got Jet Lawrence still in sight.
12:30Yeah, then we're going to see what Tomac could do with a little bit of running room.
12:34Yeah, they do have Jet in front.
12:35Let's give it the update on the riders running the Oakley goggles here.
12:38We've got Hampshire second, Tomac fourth, Cooper now moving to eighth as we check in with Tomac.
12:44Barsha 12th, Paciorell 19th.
12:47So we have this startling statistic that Eli Tomac has never won a 450 race at Unadilla.
12:53This is a four-time champion of the series.
12:57And he just says he wants a good result.
12:59And he is a little frustrated that he hasn't gotten an overall win thus far this year.
13:03Does have two moto wins, Katie.
13:05I asked Eli about, you know, his reasons why this track hasn't fit him that well.
13:09He said, I have no idea, but I would love to break the Dilla mold.
13:13He said, I should be here.
13:14It's high speeds, big hills.
13:16I've known this hasn't been my house, so maybe there is a bit of a mental block when I come here to Unadilla.
13:22Stu, that's a question for you.
13:24How does a mental block, when maybe you haven't performed well, kind of come about at these racerarts time and time again, even as a champion?
13:30I mean, the block, once I felt like I went down here, this used to be one of my favorite tracks, and then I kept going down.
13:37Every time I showed up, I'm like, here it goes.
13:39And it would just happen.
13:40So with Eli, I think he had to make some changes to the bike setup, which they did, because he looked like a whole different rider.
13:46But the mental block can go away.
13:48If he can continue closing in on these guys, that would help him out a lot.
13:51And we know when Eli's got confidence, he can ride faster than anybody in the world.
13:56He's just got to stay there.
13:57Yeah, it's been a tug of war back there.
14:01That bottom box, by the way, Dylan Ferrandes, now he's a rider who has been very good at Unadilla before.
14:07Second race of ProBotacross this year, coming back from injury and illness last week, and he is putting serious heat on Prado.
14:14So the factory connection, Phoenix Honda almost made the move.
14:18And RJ goes down in this corner.
14:21Yeah, just pushing it, going down in that corner.
14:24Looses the front end, and the front end goes over that berm.
14:26And still gets up in fourth place, but that puts a toe back in there.
14:30That is really the first big mistake we have seen from RJ in the 450s.
14:36It's been rock solid.
14:37JT, how about this battle with Ferrandes?
14:39Yeah, well, tough break for RJ.
14:40This bottom battle, I'm just picturing our Spanish broadcast and our French broadcast battling it out right now.
14:46The battle between Maxime and Edgar López on who's going to come out ahead has to be epic.
14:52I'm going back and watching after the race just for that.
14:54Yeah, we do have the alternate language broadcast.
14:56It would be like a scene out of Anchorman there.
14:58Each crew has their side right now.
15:01SMX Video Pass, 80% off if you guys want to subscribe to that.
15:05Now, through the end of the season, including the playoffs, and here are the other languages.
15:10So, Ferrandes, strong last week, had a first-turn crash.
15:13Came back for a solid result.
15:15I think sixth in the second moto.
15:17Riding well.
15:18Oh, we got company.
15:19Here comes Justin Cooper now at three-rider battle.
15:21Yeah, Justin's been looking good all day long.
15:24Bad start for him.
15:25It could be costly.
15:26But even with Dylan Ferrandes, rode really good last weekend for him.
15:32Took break for, as we go back to RJ.
15:35Now, you know, watch him go down in this corner.
15:37I don't know if he hits a bump, but he gets on the gas, charges, and watch the front end just hop over this berm.
15:42He starts pushing it.
15:43Easy mistake to happen.
15:45Hunter did a good job at not going into him.
15:48Doesn't hurt to get roosted on going out the corner as well.
15:51Ferrandes still not able to find a way around Prado.
15:57Now, they thought they had made progress last week.
15:59A new part they found and put on the bike Saturday morning last week at Ironman.
16:03And Prado did say it was much better.
16:05Then he said because they were faster, they're going to have to make more changes to adapt.
16:09But not going to work this time as Ferrandes has finally found the opening and makes the pass.
16:15Katie.
16:16If you remember, Dylan Ferrandes liked this track.
16:18He's won a couple of motos here at 250.
16:21And I asked him why.
16:22He said, well, the dirt is great.
16:23Long runs, technical layout.
16:25And mentally, unlike Eli Tomek, like we just talked about, he said he puts himself in a good position coming to a track like this where he has had success.
16:33They did change a little on the shock to be better in braking zones here today.
16:36But overall, Dylan Ferrandes is feeling good on the bike, especially coming off of that long injury.
16:41Him wanting to improve each weekend.
16:44Well, he definitely has.
16:45This is a great return for the 2021 450 Pro Motocross Champ last week.
16:49Hey, we're at the halfway point of this moto.
16:52Reminder that Monster Energy available now at Morabito.
16:54So, during our Race Day Live qualifying show, James, we're really digging into the way a bike needs to be set up for you to deal up.
17:01And how maybe the way Ferrandes sets it up happens to work for this track.
17:04Yeah, Dylan likes to set his bike up front end high.
17:08And when you come to these racetracks, especially this, when you see how much the bike's moving a lot.
17:12Well, if you're going to have any part of the bike moving, you'd rather have that rear end dancing around than that front.
17:17Because of the high speed and the way Dylan sets his motorcycle up, it's set up that way.
17:21So, he's always been comfortable.
17:23On the contrary, you got Eli Tomac.
17:25Had to make some changes to his bike.
17:26He sets it up as Justin Cooper gets around Jorge Prada.
17:31Eli sets it up the opposite way.
17:32Rear end more balanced than this.
17:34And I don't think that's a coincidence that he struggles here.
17:38Maybe it's not his favorite racetrack.
17:41And that's because all that weight on the front end gets it really twitchy.
17:44So, just two different setups of the motorcycle.
17:47But Eli, they seem like they did make some changes because he looks a lot better in his practice.
17:51Yeah, horses for courses.
17:52We saw them tinkering with Eli's bike quite a bit in qualifying.
17:55Definitely working well right now.
17:56Check in now at 69.
17:58That is Kyle Webster, the Quad Lock Honda, the Australian motocross champion.
18:02Going to race these final three rounds because the Quad Lock Honda team operates both in America and in Australia.
18:08And he will be part of Team Australia at Motocross of Nations.
18:12And he's going right by Prado.
18:14Yeah, I mean, for Team Australia, that's a good sign to see up inside the top ten.
18:19But for Jorge, I knew it was going to be tough.
18:23He got that whole shot.
18:24And when he got passed by those guys, it was going to be a long motor for him.
18:27Next battle, you're going to have Guillaude here on the Yamaha.
18:31I'm battling it out with Marsha.
18:32Guillaude has had a great summer, right around top ten in points.
18:38And veteran out of Switzerland.
18:39As for Marsha, he's a New York native.
18:42Been tinkering around on this motorcycle quite a bit.
18:45And no lack of effort.
18:48But not quite where he wants to be right now.
18:50Ted, we asked Marsha about this being his home race yesterday.
18:54Yeah, something like that.
18:58A little ways away, but not crazily far.
19:02It's just a special place here, you know, the fans are unreal.
19:07Especially being a New York guy, they give you a little more backing, so that's cool.
19:11You know, where I'm at, my race right now, you know, the positions I'm finishing,
19:16obviously not where I want it, but hopefully the fans can maybe bump me up a few more positions
19:21with some cheering.
19:22But all in all, yeah, it's cool to be back here at Unidill.
19:26It's just such a special place.
19:28So much history.
19:29And the track is extremely unique and a lot of special features, so it's a good one.
19:35Well, it is a good one, but it's even better for Guillaude, who is throwing down right now,
19:40making the move.
19:41And that will put him into the top ten.
19:44Guillaude has been great and a really fun guy to hang out with in the pits all weekend at these races.
19:50JT, just another one of these veteran riders making it happen here in America.
19:55Yeah, this is really impressive from Guillaude.
19:57And I'm just looking through the top ten right now.
19:59We have one, two, three, four, five, six out of the top ten.
20:05Six out of the top ten are international born riders and then four other Americans.
20:10This has truly become the world championship that we always talk about it being.
20:13Well, Guillaude JT is ninth in 450 points, and he is in the battle to try to get into the top 20
20:20and race SMX playoffs without having to go to the LCQ.
20:24He's been great, consistent all year, and that bike is shockingly stock, by the way,
20:31and he's making it look good.
20:32I mentioned that top 20.
20:34He's right there right now.
20:35He is in a battle with Cody Shock, and Mitchell Harrison has been very strong both indoors and out
20:41to get in without having to go to the LCQ.
20:43You see the points right there.
20:45Yeah, there's Shock.
20:46Yeah, Cody will get those points.
20:49That's going to help out a lot.
20:51Yeah, Shock and Guillaude, they're basically going to be battling each other over these last four motos,
20:56as well as Harrison.
20:58Harrison's a few positions back right now.
21:00He's in 15th.
21:02Shock riding with a sore ankle the last couple of rounds.
21:05Oh, there's your boy, Malcolm Stewart, and there is Lorenzo LaCursha,
21:09who's been riding very well as of late.
21:10Take the rider out of Venezuela.
21:14Malcolm up there ahead of him.
21:16The battle never ends, just like that 250 class.
21:19This battle never ends.
21:21We had to rock it out in Fantasy Wild Card pick.
21:2414th place today, and the fans for the first time didn't pick.
21:27Malcolm, well, they should have, because that's the position he's in right now.
21:31Let's see if we can get away from LaCursha on the Wildcat Gas Gas.
21:36Yeah, I'm assuming he's probably not going to stay there.
21:40But Jay ain't going to let him stay there.
21:41Oh, Dad not happy?
21:42No, Dad's not going to let him stay there.
21:45Well, he's going to hitch a ride.
21:46Up ahead of him is Shock.
21:49Yeah, so Malcolm just made the move on the Curcio.
21:52Then is Shock.
21:52Then Barsha and Guillaude.
21:53Shock's got to try to get to Guillaude.
21:55Because, yeah, Tomac hits in a ride.
22:01Hunter Lawrence and Eli Tomac is looking at timing the score.
22:04Well, Tomac, they're both getting faster.
22:06So the previous lap, Hunter put in his best lap.
22:08Tomac has answered with his best.
22:10And now we've got a battle for second.
22:13Yeah, Jed Lawrence right in front of both of them.
22:15So, yeah.
22:17Maybe it is Eli's track.
22:20Then why would that happen?
22:22Is the track running itself in?
22:23The fact that they're going a little faster now than they actually were earlier.
22:26Well, I think that Jed, no matter what he says,
22:30there is a pressure with championship, no matter how big the points lead is.
22:34So, you know, he knows the only way he can lose is if he does something crazy
22:38and how difficult this racetrack is.
22:40That's pretty easy to happen.
22:41And I think that's just allowing these two guys, Hunter Lawrence and Eli,
22:45to just stay with him because he's not taking those chances.
22:48Now with Eli, the way practice went, he's just getting more confidence.
22:51And that the fact that he was able to close in on these guys,
22:54because you remember, he had to get around Ken Rocks and Jorge Prada.
22:57He's caught these guys in there with seven minutes left.
23:00They haven't got them.
23:01I believe Eli's here to fight.
23:03And if he can get around Hunter Lawrence, got to look forward to it.
23:06But we said that in the past.
23:07It looks like Hunter is actually stepping up the pace.
23:09Oh, well, listen, these fans cheering on the legend Tomac.
23:13He is so popular everywhere.
23:16They drop a gate at pro motocross.
23:18So are you saying they're getting a little confidence, actually, as the moto goes on?
23:22Yeah, they're getting confidence.
23:24I mean, anytime Jet's not just running away from him, it gives you confidence,
23:27you know, with those guys.
23:28And I think out of all these guys, the one who's looking for the most is this guy.
23:32Yeah, Eli, so for him, how last weekend went, not feeling well.
23:37Looks like he's a lot healthier.
23:40A couple laps are going to be important for Eli if he can continue this fight.
23:44So last time around, he went a 2017, or 217.8.
23:48Hunter had a 217.3, but then a 218.2.
23:52So they've been fighting back and forth.
23:55The yo-yo battle closes and stretches and closes and stretches.
23:59JT.
24:00By watching Eli Tomac here, which you can just see the.
24:02You can see the intensity that we were wondering, where is that last weekend?
24:06And we learned after the race that he was under the weather.
24:08He just wasn't quite feeling well.
24:11And all that intensity, just kind of lose it.
24:13You're not able to maintain that really high heart rate
24:16and all that adrenaline when you're sick like that.
24:18So this is the Eli Tomac that we were promised,
24:21and it's good to see him back to form.
24:23Yeah, it's good to see him back.
24:24You know, the thing that's going to be hard for Eli, the way he rides,
24:27you can see how aggressive he is.
24:29I think he's got to stay disciplined.
24:32how he caught him just slowly and steadily.
24:35He's got to do that.
24:36Otherwise, if he starts pushing, he's going to make mistakes like that.
24:39And you can see that gap get away because Jet Lawrence picked up the pace the last lap.
24:43Hunter Lawrence has picked up the pace, and Eli's trying to do that.
24:45Now he's making those mistakes.
24:47In traffic, by the way, check in with the leader, Jet Lawrence.
24:51He's got it up to 3.6 seconds now.
24:55Hampshire's fourth, Broxham.
24:56What a great return for him.
24:58Running fifth right now over Ferrandez, Cooper, Webster, Prado, and Giyode.
25:02And the Dolores brothers, they have finished 1-2 in Bodo's 12 times, working on a 13 right now.
25:10It is unbelievable what they have done really over the last couple of years.
25:15They swept both titles two years ago, 250 and 450 class, and now trying to be 1-2 in the championship.
25:23Yeah, Jet put in a good lap.
25:25You see him stretching that out.
25:28But as I mentioned, you see how much that bike's moving.
25:30So imagine now trying to go even faster than that.
25:33You're really taking a chance.
25:35This track is really difficult for these guys, and it really comes down to how slippery it is.
25:41Just trying to stay on the racetrack at this point.
25:50Jet rockets over the top of the wall there, Katie.
25:52Yeah, earlier today, they were making some solid jumps in the shock and force to see if he would get a little bit more comfortable.
25:59Even though he was fastest qualifier, he wasn't comfortable on the bike.
26:02I went back after to ask, oh, is he comfortable?
26:05They said, nope, didn't help.
26:06We're going to go back to base.
26:07And that's what that team is doing, right?
26:09It's fine to be here and there to make sure Jet maintains his comfort on the bike.
26:13I asked how his spirits were today because he actually, to me, seemed a little bit more reserved,
26:19a little bit more to get it back, and they said he's in good spirits, and we're just moving forward as we can.
26:26So, of course, eyes on the prize, but we're not going to do anything out of the norm to get that championship.
26:33Well, Katie, I think just to add some context there, you know, this track, you know,
26:37James always talks about being comfortable when you're uncomfortable.
26:39This track is fantastic at making you feel uncomfortable.
26:43You're just bouncing around.
26:44The bike's constantly moving.
26:46You're always searching for traction.
26:47You can see how twitchy it was for Jet there coming up to that SkyShot tabletop.
26:52So you're kind of always in that space where, like, I just don't feel quite right.
26:56So they're looking around.
26:57They're trying different settings, trying to help that for Jet.
27:00But as long as I've been coming here since 1997, I've never really heard anybody who's like,
27:04yeah, you know, I feel extremely comfortable here.
27:07It's just that type of racetrack.
27:08Yeah, absolutely, and what Jet's doing, he's opening up the track, you know, a lot, you know,
27:14so he doesn't get on the gas so much.
27:16So even coming out of these corners, he's going to be in a taller gear, just open that corner up,
27:20maybe wait another split second before he gets on the throttle,
27:24and then even some of these faster parts, which you start doing, you go straight into the corner,
27:28and then you bank off of it instead of trying to do a lean, especially how slippery it is,
27:32and Jet's starting to figure that out.
27:35He's got it going.
27:36He's got almost a six-second lead, five and a half seconds.
27:38Yeah, he's starting to stretch it, as is Hunter over Eli.
27:41All right, so it's stretching out now.
27:44If it ends like this, Jet will have a 50-point lead.
27:47Every other rider will be eliminated from the championship except Hunter,
27:51and then Jet will just have to prevent Hunter from beating him in Moto 2.
27:5550-point lead would be enough to wrap it up, but after the second Moto, well, it's not enough to wrap it up, no.
28:00So it'll be brother versus brother, maybe with the title in the balance in Moto 2 if it ends this way,
28:05but a couple minutes to go here, and then a whole nother 30-plus-two,
28:09and then moving up the ranks in all-time Moto wins is Jet Lawrence.
28:14He did get one last week.
28:16He's tied with, well, he's five away from Roxen.
28:19Let's go with that.
28:19Yeah, five away from Roxen, and he's going to pass the Hall of Famer over here.
28:24I've got that over at this point.
28:27Yeah, you got the Hall of Fame plaque on the wall.
28:28I'm just trying.
28:29It's like a Band-Aid.
28:30Just get it over it.
28:31Just rip it off.
28:31Yeah.
28:32Go show him your plaque at the end.
28:33Show him.
28:34I'll show it to him.
28:34He can show me his trophy in the number one plate he's got.
28:37He wraps this thing up today.
28:39And now he's starting to put the finishing touches.
28:42A little bit of birthday cake for Jet a couple of weeks ago.
28:47Turned 22.
28:49And hammering down now.
28:52Just missed the two-lap board.
28:53Probably be out next time around.
28:54So we're looking at three laps in this one.
28:59And now the battle might be over.
29:03Tomac put in that flurry, but it's five seconds really between himself and,
29:07or four about between himself and Hunter.
29:10Cauts the track even when you're not pushing it looks difficult.
29:15Yeah, it is.
29:16It's like you've got to have a gap.
29:17It's about to really ride this racetrack.
29:20And you smooth out, you actually pull away.
29:21So as I was saying earlier, it's going to be hard for Eli to just be disciplined.
29:26Because as soon as he starts really trying to get on the gas, man, make a few mistakes on this racetrack.
29:31As mentioned, Super Motocross playoffs after Pro Motocross concludes in September.
29:38It starts September 6th.
29:40Z-Max Dragway in Charlotte, North Carolina.
29:42September 13th, the Dome and America Center in St. Louis.
29:46And then the World Championship finale, September 20th, the Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
29:52All the superstars of Super Motocross will be there.
29:56And it'll be the points reset.
29:57Justin Cooper is looking to start as the number one seed to have a small buffer, but have three points.
30:02Maybe over Jet, who's making a bid to be the second seed, but he combined Motocross and Supercross points together.
30:10Got to think about Joe Shimoda, who is really starting to find his form in the 250s as the playoffs begin.
30:18Ready to watch Jet around this very rough racetrack, trying to make it look as smooth as he can.
30:23Yeah, and how good Jet is riding? Hunter's ride just as good.
30:27He's only six seconds behind him.
30:30Both these guys, they've got to figure out.
30:31Honda seems like they've got the bike figured out.
30:33The way Joe looked at first moto and these two boys, man, they're on it.
30:37Yeah, quite the day for the Red Riders so far.
30:42Got Dylan Verandes, Jeff, Webster and Ace.
30:48Oh, really for a show or for no there?
30:51It's just power.
30:53Okay, that's for Doe.
30:56Trying to make some money with the right wrist.
30:58Looks like Barsha's back in this battle with Valentin Guillaume.
31:02Guillaume passed him, what, about 10 minutes ago?
31:05Barsha's back.
31:07Justin ain't never going to let anything go.
31:10You better watch that inside over there.
31:12Justin's going and hometown race.
31:16He closes right in.
31:18So Barsha was very good when he got back into action after an E-injury.
31:21Had Southwick, and then not quite as good last time out.
31:25He had air forts in the bike that had some problems with those.
31:27He switched to the spring forts.
31:29They're just trying to replicate the way the bike feels.
31:32Every week they're changing something.
31:37And, oh, hey, your dad be happy.
31:40Malcolm's moving up.
31:41Yeah, that's why the fantasy, they went wrong.
31:44I knew he was going to finish there.
31:45Yeah, he's up to 11th now, and it could be more if he can get Marsha and Malcolm Stewart back there.
31:52Yeah, these guys ride together during the week, so, yep.
31:55And it's been relatively drama-free from what I can tell.
31:58Now, they have had their run-ins on the track through the years,
32:01but it's been friendly foes this year.
32:08Keogh holding his own.
32:12Yeah, it's holding.
32:12It looks like Dylan Ferrandez is a couple seconds,
32:16so maybe Valentin has got somebody to chase.
32:21And Webster doing a good job.
32:22Webster did not line up from Moto2 last week at Ironman.
32:25It's overheated because, again, we mentioned this earlier in the day,
32:29it's wintertime over there in Australia, so it's so hot and humid last week at Ironman.
32:34And that was tough on the Australians.
32:36Much nicer conditions this week, and they've had some time.
32:39Webster getting a ride at the Lawrence Brothers compound
32:42because they want to help their motocross of nations team Australia mate and teammate.
32:48Yeah, Malcolm's got these lines figured out.
32:51Like that inside, I'm watching some of these corners.
32:54Watch his roll speed really good.
32:57He'll take the longer way around, but eventually it'll play off.
33:00As Justin might get caught behind, Valentin might open opportunity for the 27.
33:07He's going to be very patient.
33:08Get that bike squared up.
33:13Three-way battle right now.
33:15Barsha right back to the rear fender of Guillaume.
33:19Yeah, again, Malcolm, this is when you want to strike.
33:22You don't want Justin to get around.
33:24Valentin, you want to get another opportunity to get around both of these guys, possibly.
33:31Now, Guillaume has had a great time, really enjoys the racing in America.
33:34He says the only thing, though, that he's not been able to replicate, the food.
33:38So anytime we've had a break, he gets back to Switzerland.
33:41And when you hear him wax poetic on the sandwiches and the food back there in Europe,
33:45it's the only thing he hasn't been able to enjoy quite as much.
33:47License tracks, format, competition.
33:50But that's why he keeps rushing home every time we have a weekend off.
33:54The man's got to eat.
33:55So does this guy, eating up the competition again.
34:00Jed Lawrence, he's now lost a whopping three overalls in his 450 pro motocross career,
34:07but two in a row.
34:10Panic fun.
34:11Big problems.
34:12Well, he came in.
34:13Any time I see him quiet, calm, it's going to be a tough day, a long day for the rest of the field.
34:19I think he was really focused, obviously, to championship.
34:23You know, if you focus on just going 1-1, you'll wrap up the championship.
34:26And so far, he's doing that.
34:28And I think the way this track is, he's going to have to keep that up.
34:32And he answers the bell anytime anybody dings it.
34:34So last lap here for Jed Lawrence, jumping uphill.
34:39Yeah, is this one of those, if you try to back it down too much, is it actually, it changes so much, it's almost more dangerous?
34:45No, I just think it's allowing him to stay focused.
34:48Okay.
34:49Yeah, the track, how difficult it is.
34:51Yeah.
34:51I mean, coming in until everybody knows how difficult Unadilla is.
34:53But this track has been a lot different than I think they all expected.
34:57Yep.
34:58And just really impressed by him.
35:00Figured this out.
35:02Yeah, didn't even have the start this time.
35:04Had to make some passes to get there.
35:05That's Barsha and Guido just still battling.
35:08Barsha makes the move.
35:09I said, he's going to leave that in title of it.
35:11He's going for it.
35:12So, I'm trying to get home to eat again.
35:15So, I'll let you have this one.
35:17He learned enough about American racing.
35:19They squared up at Millville.
35:22He watched the tapes.
35:23He knew, don't go wheel to wheel with Barsha, literally.
35:26It's probably not going to end well for you.
35:27So, discretion is the better part of Valor.
35:30And Barsha makes the move.
35:31That puts him in ninth.
35:31Guido, tenth.
35:32Webster, eighth.
35:33Ferranda, seventh.
35:34Cooper, sixth.
35:35Ken Rockson, great ride on that progressive Suzuki, fifth.
35:40Hempshire, fourth, towback, third.
35:42Hunter Lawrence, second.
35:43And guess who?
35:44Out front.
35:47Waited a few laps.
35:48And then when I go, I go to the lead.
35:50And that's exactly what the 18 did.
35:53Lost it briefly.
35:54Got it back.
35:55And shit, Lawrence is going to win.
35:57Moto one at Unadilla.
36:01Hunter Lawrence will finish second.
36:03And that title is right on the brink.
36:06See what happens in Moto two.
36:08Will it go down to Bud's Creek finale or not?
36:10Malcolm, get him.
36:13Yeah, I think I can tell by that.
36:15Ron, so I believe Malcolm got him.
36:17Nice dig here for your bro.
36:19And he's not too far behind Barsha.
36:21Yeah, good ride by him.
36:24I'm saying he had to try to make that happen before Justin got around Valentin, but he might
36:30still get it done.
36:31Yeah, maybe use these lap riders and be a little bit closer.
36:36I'd say you've got to come to these races.
36:38There are battles upon battles upon battles.
36:40It's hard to see all of them.
36:41But that's why they sell the tickets.
36:44Oh, this is the pass on Guillaume.
36:47See if Malcolm fits up the inside.
36:48Oh, he leaned in on them.
36:52Yeah, he's like, man, I thought Justin was the one I had to worry about.
36:56Yeah, he didn't see him.
36:57That's just racing incident.
36:58But uh-oh, uh-oh, Marcia spins up.
37:02Uh-oh, it's going to be a battle on the line in a split lane.
37:04Oh, Malcolm couldn't decide which way to go.
37:08Yeah, no, Justin did a good job to beat him to that inside.
37:12And Bam Bam takes it in a great battle to the line with his training partner, Malcolm Stewart.
37:17That is 9th and 10th.
37:19Guillaume going to go back to 11th.
37:20There is Jet Lawrence breaking it down with his mechanic, Christian.
37:25And we'll talk to him on the podium after this.
