Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived in Washington, DC for talks with US President Donald Trump, stressing the need for a “lasting peace.” He expressed hope that Ukraine’s unity with the US and European allies will pressure Russia toward genuine peace. The discussions, joined by European leaders, come amid key disputes—Russia’s demand to block Ukraine’s NATO entry and hints of a territory swap, both firmly rejected by Zelensky. He also recalled the 1994 security guarantees, noting they failed to protect Crimea and other regions, underscoring Kyiv’s refusal to cede land.

00:00Our top focus continues to remain on Donald Trump and Zelensky's meeting after a 10-on-10 meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
00:08Now Donald Trump is all set to meet the Ukrainian President at the Oval Office today at around 10 p.m.
00:13Ukrainian President Zelensky has arrived in Washington, D.C.
00:16Zelensky said that he is excited to meet Donald Trump and is hoping to strike a real peace deal.
00:22He also added that he wants to end the war fairly and swiftly.
00:25But Zelensky is not coming alone.
00:27He will be joined by European leaders in Washington.
00:30However, Trump has a different motive.
00:32He wants Zelensky to strike a peace agreement.
00:35Trump has made it clear that Ukraine cannot join NATO until the war ends.
00:39Ahead of the big meet in Washington, the U.S. Secretary of State has said that both Ukraine and Russia will have to make concessions to reach a peace deal to end the war.
00:48Marco Rubio has asserted that when it comes to territories and territorial claims, the final decision should rest with Ukraine.
00:57Since the territorial issue is so important, it should be discussed only by the leaders of Ukraine and Russia at the trilateral Ukraine, United States, Russia.
01:09So far, Russia gives no sign that trilateral will happen.
01:14And if Russia refuses, then new sanctions must follow.
01:19Ukraine must be able to uphold its sovereignty and its territorial integrity.
01:25There can be no limitations on Ukrainian armed forces, be it cooperation with or other third countries or assistance from other third countries.
01:38No limitations for the Ukrainian armed forces.
01:41As I've often said, Ukraine must become a steel porcupine, undigestible for potential invaders.
01:50You can't have a peace agreement unless both sides give and get.
01:53You can't have a peace agreement unless both sides make concessions.
01:56That's a fact.
01:57That's true in virtually any negotiation.
01:59If not, it's just called surrender.
02:01And neither side is going to surrender.
02:03So both sides are going to have to make concessions.
02:05So, of course, concessions were asked.
02:06But what utility would there be of me going on a program and tell you we've wagged our finger at Putin and told him you must do this and you must do that?
02:13It's going to make it's only going to make it harder and less likely that they're going to agree to these things.
02:18So these negotiations, as much as everyone would love it to be a live pay-per-view event, these discussions only work best when they are conducted privately in serious negotiations in which people who have to go back and respond to constituencies.
02:33The president has said repeatedly, when it comes to territories and territorial claims, that's ultimately something Ukraine will have to decide.
02:40It's their territory.
02:41It's their country.
02:42Ultimately, what they're willing to live with is what they'll have to decide on.
02:45Maybe the answer is they're not willing to live with any of this.
02:48We don't know.
02:48But that's what we need to explore.
02:50In the meantime, the one thing we do know that Ukraine has said repeatedly and publicly talked about is security guarantees.
02:56They need to be able to enter into security guarantees that ensure that this is never going to happen again, that they're not going to get reinvaded in two and a half or three years or four years or whenever it may be.
03:05They don't want to be back here again.
03:07They want to be able to go on to rebuild their country and live their lives.
03:10That's a very reasonable request.
03:12That's something we're working on.
03:13And that's something the Russian side has to understand, obviously, is that as a sovereign country, Ukraine has a right, like every sovereign country, to enter into security alliances and agreements with other countries.
03:23Well, if it is a turning point, I think it will only be the latest of what has been a pretty intense back and forth ever since Trump has come into office.
03:31But for his first several months in office, he positioned himself quite closely to Putin, even as Putin continuously reneged on his word.
03:40But then shortly going into kind of in the weeks leading up to the Alaska summit, he started to align himself more with Europe to pursue a policy more in line with his predecessor, Joe Biden's.
03:52And then over the course of the meeting in Alaska, that was all upended.
03:56So could this upend everything again?
03:58Could he go back to where he was before the Alaska summit and side more with Europe and Ukraine?
04:03Quite possibly.
04:04But it's been it's been a lot of whiplash here in the United States.
04:07And I think what's particularly notable is that Putin is not only demanding that the world recognize the territory that Russia has already conquered and is currently occupying,
04:17but that Ukraine ced territory that it still controls to Russia.
04:22And I think what that really shows and what Ukraine is well aware of and what the Europeans are well aware of is that Putin is not really willing to negotiate a good faith end to this war.
04:33He hasn't backed off his maximalist war aims, but he seems to be very successful at sweet talking Donald Trump into thinking that that he is some kind of great compromiser and is willing to to settle.
04:45And India Today Global's Pranay Upadhyay is now joining us with more details on this.
04:52Pranay, by asking Ukraine to consider concession, is the U.S. now putting pressure on Kyiv just ahead of this crucial meeting?
04:59In fact, this is the this is the concern that how much Ukraine might be pushed to concede in terms of the territory.
05:08We do not know what exactly is the formula worked out by U.S. President Donald Trump,
05:12because, you know, after his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, he did not divulge the details of his conversation.
05:20However, you know, he is holding a meeting in White House and definitely, you know, the U.S. side is trying to put pressure on the on both parties to have a solution.
05:33And that solution can only be worked out by by making some concession.
05:37But what that those concessions would be, we do not know.
05:40But we have seen that, you know, how Russia has been insisting upon the territories and the kind of advancement made by the Russian troops in the last one and a half months.
05:52That is also quite significant.
05:54And that is a concern on the Ukrainian side and as well as in Europe at large.
06:00And that's why you see that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is being accompanied by the leaders of France, Emmanuel Macron, the French president, UK Prime Minister Karas Sammer, the German president, Patrick Mertz, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni.
06:15They all will be there in White House to accompany Volodymyr Zelensky.
06:19However, U.S. President Donald Trump will be holding a one-on-one meeting with Mr. Zelensky first.
06:24And thereafter, he will be holding a multilateral meeting with the European leaders.
06:28And there, you know, we have to see because it's not about Ukraine itself, but it's about European security because European nations have their own concern and, you know, being put forth by the European Commission leader Ursula von der Leyen that we have to address the security concerns of Europe at large.
06:51And the Finnish president would also be accompanying this group to Washington, D.C.
06:56Ukrainian President Zelensky has already reached Washington, D.C.
06:59And he will be holding, you know, talks with U.S. President at around 10.30 p.m. India time.
07:05And thereafter, the European leaders will also join in a company in this conversation.
07:10All right, Pranay, thank you so much for getting us all those details.
07:13In fact, we'll keep coming back here for more updates on the story.
07:16And our shifting focus, a planned visit by U.S. trade negotiators to New Delhi later this month has reportedly been called off,
07:26delaying talks on a proposed trade agreement and dashing the hopes of relief from additional U.S. tariffs on Indian goods that are set to take effect from August 27.
07:36More on this in our next report.
07:37While the Alaska meet between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin did not yield any significant breakthrough,
07:48it did leave India hopeful for respite from Trump's tyranny of tariffs.
07:52From the side of President Trump, I think it indicates that there's some kind of discussion on this definitely with President Putin
08:03and some kind of understanding has been reached that they need not put a tariff on the sale of oil
08:10that Russia is doing to China, to India and even to the European Union.
08:16And there is even trade between USA and Russia, you know.
08:19So obviously, I think it does look like that this question of the additional tariff may not come about.
08:29It may be put in abeyance for a bit.
08:34But the hopes for relief now appear quashed as a planned visit by U.S. trade negotiators to New Delhi has reportedly been deferred.
08:42The visit was originally scheduled for August 25-29, but the current round of negotiations is now likely to be postponed to another date that has yet to be decided.
08:55While 25% tariffs on Indian goods came into effect on August 7, the additional 25% tariffs imposed as penalty for Russian oil imports are set to kick in from August 27.
09:07With time running short, the delay in trade talks further sets back any breakthrough on a trade agreement.
09:15Earlier, five rounds of trade talks have failed over disagreement on opening India's vast farm and dairy sectors and stopping Russian oil purchases.
09:25But Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed to protect farmers in the face of the trade conflict, urging the country to move towards self-reliance.
09:37The
10:05The opposition has blamed what it calls PM Modi's obstinate stance for the delay in tariff negotiations.
10:35If the talks remain deferred as reported, starting August 27, the new import tax will raise duties on some Indian exports to as high as 50%.
11:03The highest levied on any US trading partner.
11:07Dora Report, India Today.
11:13And now shifting focus, the National Democratic Alliance has announced veteran leader CP Radhakrishnan as its vice presidential candidate.
11:22Ahead of the India Bloc meeting to strategize for VP polls today, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh spoke with the Congress, seeking support for Radhakrishnan.
11:30Now, Rajnath Singh is also set to speak to other opposition parties and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kireen Rijiju will be Radhakrishnan's election agent.
11:38Radhakrishnan is currently the Maharashtra governor but has held several key positions in his political journey.
11:44He has in fact served as the Tamil Nadu BJP chief in the past.
11:47He has also been associated with the RSS and Jansang and comes from the OBC community.
11:53Now, the announcement comes just months ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections.
11:56Radhakrishnan is a BJP veteran from Tamil Nadu and has played a key role in building the party's presence in the state.
12:04The decision was taken at the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting which was called to finalize the party's choice for the vice presidential election.
12:11Prime Minister Modi has also hailed Radhakrishnan's nomination, backing his dedication, humility and intellect.
12:18Modi has lauded his community service and grassroots work over the years.
12:22Prime Minister Modi has been approached by his
12:38and he will be involved with the capital ofШ Kanesha.
12:45I have said that the wife has been here today.
12:49I would like to see the children's face and face.
12:52Adarnia Pradhan Mantri Ji, who has taken the impact of the world,
12:56we all have to welcome him.

13:03in this impact of the world of Tachshin Bharata,
13:06the OBC people of the nature of the world of the government,

14:03I want to know that in which cases they had to give them.
14:07They had read the message of what the result was going on.
14:16So the BJP is working on an agenda.
14:19If they are sitting on an agenda,
14:21they have a chance to get this.
14:23Today, they have announced their own hope.
14:26The royal government, the government government,
14:29the S.A.P. Radha Kishnan sir,
14:31they became their own hope.
14:32Everything was all fine.
14:34But we can't understand,
14:36where is the person from Dhankar Ji?
14:38That's why, if someone becomes an old person,
14:43they will bring again.
14:48It's made a hope.
14:51But where is the previous person from Dhankar Ji?
14:56And my colleague Piyush Mishra is now joining us with more details.
14:59Piyush, what made CP Radhakrishnan the NDA's unanimous choice for the VP post?
15:05Well, before announcing the name of CP Radhakrishnan, a lot of meetings have taken place, Anjali.
15:11Remember that BJP sources initially had indicated that this time the vice presidential candidate of NDA would be from BJP or from Sangh.
15:20And that's what we are also seeing being followed.
15:23Remember that NDA had given responsibility to J.P. Nadda and N.P.M. Narendra Modi to choose upon the candidate.
15:29And finally, we are now seeing CP Radhakrishnan, who has had a long decade of experience working as a BJP leader, working as Sangh Karekarta.
15:41Remember that he was also chosen as the MP from Coimbatore in 1998.
15:46And he continued to hold that position till 2004.
15:50And he was also the president of BJP in Tamil Nadu.
15:53He is also being seen as a man responsible for expanding the base of BJP in the southern part of the country.
15:59And he has got his, you know, people who praise him in all political parties.
16:05And that's why he has been chosen as the man who can also run the house smoothly.
16:10He has also been the governor of states like Puduchari, Chalangana.
16:16He is currently serving as governor of Maharashtra.
16:18Before this, he was governor of Jharkhand.
16:21So, he has got a long administrative experience, a long political experience also.
16:27And that's why his name was chosen by NDA.
16:30Also, it's important to highlight that CP Radhakrishnan comes from Tamil Nadu and BJP is trying its best to expand its base in southern part of the country.
16:39And appointing a man who is loved by all political parties in the southern part of the country could certainly, you know, be fruitful for BJP as elections are also set to take place in Tamil Nadu in coming few months from now.
16:55So, all the permutations and combinations have been looked into before deciding upon the name of CP Radhakrishnan.
17:01Yesterday, there was around a two-hour long parliamentary board meeting of BJP.
17:07And in that meeting, multiple names were discussed, multiple governors, sitting governors' names were discussed.
17:13But finally, the stamp was made on the name of CP Radhakrishnan, who has a long experience of working in the capacity of governor, in the capacity of MP.
17:24And also, you know, is the karikarta of BJP and RSS.
17:29And that's why, looking into all the angles, finally his name was announced.
17:32And all the NDA constituents have accepted his name.
17:35And they have also welcomed the name of CP Radhakrishnan.
17:39And remember that the training of all MPs will take place on 6th, 7th and 8th of September.
17:43And after that, 9th of September, the voting will take place.
17:47And then, we will have new vice president in the office.
17:50All right, Piyush. Thank you so much for getting us all those details.
17:53And as CP Radhakrishnan has been chosen as the vice president candidate,
17:57a video of him sternly warning Coimbatore BJP MLA over choosing sides has now gone viral.
18:03In the video, CP Radhakrishnan is seen telling BJP MLA that as long as she travels with AIADMK MLA,
18:09SP Velumani, she wouldn't face any problems.
18:12Otherwise, she might vanish.
18:14Listen in.
18:14And we're now getting some breaking news.
18:35At Krishna Janmashrami celebrations, five people lose their lives.
18:39During the Shri Krishna Janmashrami celebrations in Hyderabad, five people died after being electrocuted.
18:45Another four are reported to be in critical condition.
18:48The mishap occurred in Ramanthapur during a Shobha Yatra of Lord Krishna
18:53when the chariot came in contact with overhead electric wires.
18:57And four people have lost their lives.
18:59Reports also indicate that the security of Union Minister Kishan Reddy sustained injuries in this incident.
19:06So, a tragedy at Krishna Janmashrami celebrations in Hyderabad,
19:10where five people have lost their lives and other four are said to be in critical condition.
19:15My colleague Abdul Bashir is now joining us with more details on this.
19:18Abdul, absolutely unfortunate news coming to the fore from Hyderabad.
19:22Give us more details.
19:23A tragic incident has taken place during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
19:30That is, after 1.30 a.m. is where this incident has taken place in Ramanthapur,
19:35where five people, namely Sri Krishna, 21-year-old, Srikant Reddy, 35,
19:42Suresh, 34, Rudra Vikas, 39, and Rajendra Reddy, 45-year-old,
19:46these five people have lost their life on the spot,
19:50whereas the four people are said to be injured in this particular mishap that has taken place
19:55during the procession, while the procession was crossing the Gokhal Nagar,
19:59where this incident has taken place.
20:02And what we are learning is that the passerbys have tried to revive or give a CPR
20:10to these people who have collapsed immediately after the incident,
20:13but, unfortunately, five people have died in the incident.
20:17Now, this tragic incident has taken place in Gokhal Nagar of Ramanthapur,
20:20wherein BRS Working Press and KTR has also expressed his condolences to the five people
20:26and asked the state government to provide proper treatment to the injured.
20:30And this is very saddening, is what BRS Working Press and KTR have stated.
20:34But what we are understanding is that now these four people who are injured
20:37are right now undergoing treatment.
20:38And what the sources say is that, reportedly, security personnel of Union Minister Kishan Reddy
20:46also sustained injuries while he was off duty in this particular procession,
20:49is what is being said.
20:50Over to you.
20:51All right, Abdul, thank you for getting us those details on this.
20:55Very unfortunate incident being reported from Hyderabad.
20:58Tragedy struck the Krishna Janmashtami celebrations,
21:01where five people lost their lives,
21:03and another four are reported to be in critical condition.
21:06This mishap occurred in Ramanthapur during a Shobha Yatra of Lord Krishna,
21:12when the chariot came in contact with overhead electric wires.
21:15In fact, reports also indicate that the security of Union Minister Kishan Reddy
21:20sustained injuries in the incident.
21:22And we're now getting some breaking news.
21:32Big GST rejig impact on markets.
21:36Nifty up 300 points.
21:38Sensex up by 840 points.
21:40Markets bullish after GST rejig announcement.
21:44That's the breaking news that's coming in from the markets.
21:46The markets are in green, and this is being seen as a big GST rejig impact on the markets.
21:53The Nifty is up by 300 points, and the Sensex is up by 840 points.
21:59My colleague Business Today's Karishma is now joining us with more details on this.
22:04Karishma, tell us more about the markets that are appearing to be bullish after the big GST rejig announcement.
22:13Well, definitely it's the domestic investors that are very happy and looking forward to what the market has to offer.
22:19The centre during the weekend announced shared.
22:23In fact, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke of the GST 2.2 revamp that's expected very soon.
22:28And we've been reporting from our finance ministry sources that the centre is now going to revamp GST with only two set of rates,
22:38slabs that is just 5% and 18%.
22:41They're going to do away with the 12% and 28% slab.
22:45It's a big news for a lot of sectors, including that of auto sector,
22:49which is going to see the loudest cheer in the next few days,
22:52because they're currently taxed at 28% and now they'll be moving to the 18% slab,
22:59which is going to have a two-way benefit, not just to the industry, but also to an end consumer.
23:06Amidst all the uncertainty that has come in in the last few days due to geopolitical movements,
23:11this response by markets is well taken and well expected to see Nifty 50 and Sensex climb up beyond its expectations today.
23:20It only speaks of the fact that the economy is resilient and people are hopeful that good things are in the same.
23:28Also, Karishma, could this impact be temporary or will this be a long-term trust shown by the investors?
23:37As of now, it looks like they're happy with the fact that there is some kind of consumer boost coming to them
23:44because consumption was a challenge in the past few days.
23:48A lot of analysts have been predicting that there needs to be some kind of happy news to come in,
23:54especially after the income tax cut that came in budget.
23:58GST cut is likely another aspect that domestic investors see.
24:03If it's going to be a long-term sustaining momentum, only time will save because the environment is so versatile and dynamic
24:11that any kind of geopolitical hits also stands as a big challenge.
24:14But domestically, a GST revamp was well on cards and the fact that it's going to have a direct impact on a lot of essential goods for an end consumer
24:24speaks volumes of the fact that investors are happy about it.
24:30All right, Karishma, thank you so much for those details and for that context.
24:33So, the markets are in green after the big GST re-jig announcement.
24:39And now, shifting focus.
24:41Rahul Gandhi versus the Election Commission has escalated.
24:44Just hours after the Election Commission launched a series of sharp rebuttals against recent allegations of Vote Chori,
24:50leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi doubled down.
24:53He has accused the Election Commission of being the BJP's Election Chori branch yet again in Bihar
24:58as he kick-started his voter Radhikar Yatra in the state.
25:02The Congress MP also asserted that he is not scared of the Prime Minister, the Home Minister or the Election Commission
25:08and claimed that the special intensive revision process is not about revising but deleting voter rolls.
25:13Sharing the same stage, RJD Sayan, Tejasvi Yadav also launched a sharp attack on the double-engine Serkar
25:20for systematically stripping Bihar's people of their voting rights.
25:24Targeting the central leadership, the Bihar leader of opposition said
25:27that the Gujarat duo cannot decide who will vote in the state of Bihar.
25:32He in fact also vowed not to let the Election Commission and BJP trample the rights of Bihari voters.
25:38Earlier, the Election Commission dared Rahul Gandhi to show saboot or issue an apology over his Vote Chori claims.
25:43The poll panel also asserted that press conferences are insufficient
25:47and demanded credible evidence within the next seven days.
25:51Following this, the Congress Party accused the Election Commission of displaying blatant partisanship
25:56and also claimed that the Chief Election Commissioner seemed to be speaking like a BJP spokesperson.

29:32And we are now getting some breaking news from the national capital.
29:34Delhi Public School Dwarka received a bomb threat call today.
29:38Authorities have evacuated the school premises as a precautionary measure.
29:42Police and bomb disposal squads have been called to the spot for search.
29:47And Delhi Police say that the threat mail has been received through a Gmail ID.
29:51It has been sent to many schools.
29:53In fact, two more schools have informed Delhi Police about such emails.
29:58My colleague Sriya Chatterjee is now joining us with more details on this.
30:01Sriya, give us more details on the bomb threat and also the current situation at DPS Dwarka.
30:08Well, yes, you know, there are at least three schools in Dwarka that have received the bomb threat early morning.
30:13What we are being told is that DPS Dwarka received the bomb threat at 7.24 in the morning.
30:19This is via Gmail.
