Vietnam vets still fighting for recognition, 50 years on

Nearly 60 years since Long Tan, Vietnam veterans say their struggle for recognition continues as Australia marks the anniversary of its costliest battle.

00:00It is still an experience that is close to the hearts of those who've participated.

00:06Many of us lost good friends.

00:09We're probably closer aligned to this than we are to Anzac Day in many respects.

00:15I couldn't even change where Vietnam was or the matter.

00:17I think people can see the injustice of the whole thing.

00:20I always say, look, I just did what the democratic elected government of the country demanded me to do.

00:27I didn't have any say in it.

00:30That's exactly what you've got to do.

00:31You've got to take follow orders.

00:33If they post you somewhere, you've got to go.

00:36That's the way it was, yeah?
