Swatch Battle of Hastings BMX spectacular returns to Hastings, East Sussex.
Transcript
00:00Swatch Battle of Hastings was founded in 2016 upon the opening of the Source Park founded by
00:15Mark Moore and Rich Moore two brothers who own Source BMX and the Source Park at the time I
00:22worked for Monster Energy and was a big partner and a part of sort of getting the idea off the
00:28ground and also Akeem Kujorski who works for us out of Germany who's been in the BMX event space for
00:36Europe and worldwide for 25 plus years. In 2017 I moved from Monster Energy to the Source and I've
00:44been our marketing and events director since then just to help grow the event and grow everything
00:49we do and I work with all of the partners bring them in so we have Swatch, Vans, Monster, Marshall
00:56and then a whole host of the best brands in BMX that support the event and have helped it grow
01:01and get to where it is now. It's a BMX event, a world-class BMX event which attracts the world's
01:08best riders so we have professional riders coming from all over the world whether it be the likes
01:13of Logan Martin who's an Olympic gold medalist or super underground riders from all over the US and
01:20Europe and it's a team event so we pick eight captains and they each select three riders of
01:27their choice to compete with them and battle with them. It's spread over a four-day period as well
01:33so we have multiple events we have events in here in the Source Park we have events in our small escape
01:38park on the other side the plaza and then we have a big event on Hastings Beach directly outside the
01:45Source Park so yeah they compete over multiple days and stack points as it goes through and then see
01:53on the Sunday which teams crowned the champions. Since 2016 we've tried to grow the event year on year
02:00the original concept was more of a festival so multiple days multiple events tag-on events like
02:07after parties and premieres and everything like this. For 2025 it's definitely gone up a notch again
02:15from 2024 we've grown the beach event which is an all-new setup it's actually going to be a 26 meter long
02:21platform which has to go at an angle towards the pier because there's not enough beach space for it this
02:26year. We've also brought in new additions to the event like the plaza events which is a small escape park
02:33where we're going to have a big LED screen in the courtyard so non-ticket holders can watch for
02:39free so always welcome along and then we've also worked with Swatch this year to bring for the
02:46first time the Swatch Flat Battle which is a BMX Flatland show and it's going to be held at the
02:52Henry Ward Hall on the night of Saturday 6th of September from 8pm. This is more of a show
02:58sort of a 80s breakdance style event but very entertaining even if you know nothing about BMX
03:06so yeah essentially for 2025 we've grown the event again added in areas and tickets sold out in six
03:16hours in July so it shows the demand but through that we have been able to put the LED screen in
03:21the courtyard so more people can enjoy it and it's definitely amazing to see where it is compared
03:27to 2016 when it started. As I said tickets sold out for the events within the Source Park but all of
03:34our shows are live streamed on youtube.com forward slash Source BMX or on our website sourcebmx.com forward slash
03:43boh and there you can view all five shows we're doing between September 4th and 7th, get all info on the
03:50riders that are coming, a full schedule and we're also doing giveaways and stuff as well so yeah check it out
