00:00For too many decades, the story of water in Tobago has been a story of struggle, interrupted
00:08supplies, strained infrastructure, and communities waiting far too long for change, and in some
00:16instances, still waiting. The patience of Tobagonians has been remarkable, but your frustration
00:25has been just as real. And so let me be clear, this government sees you, we hear you, and
00:33we are determined that the cycle of water insecurity must come to an end.
00:39Minister Elder said government remains committed to water security in Tobago.
00:45Our commitment, therefore, is not to implement patchwork fixes, but to transform water delivery
00:52by doing the following, upgrading age infrastructure to reduce leaks and losses, strengthening Tobago's
01:02water systems with urgency and with precision, delivering equity so every family, every business
01:10and institution has access, and building trust by ensuring that WASA operates with transparency
01:17and accountability. Governments pledge, therefore, we must deliver water with certainty.
01:26Today, on this 60th anniversary, I reaffirmed the pledge of this government. We will not rest
01:34until Tobago's water story changes from one of struggle to one of sustainability and security.
01:43Together, we must forge a future in which the people of Tobago can finally say, with pride,
01:50the struggle for water is over.
01:53Acting CEO of WASA, Javon Joseph, in his remarks said, Tobagonians and the country at large
02:00deserves a modernized WASA with accountability as its hallmark.
02:05We are rebuilding trust, drip by drip, through open transparency and concrete measurable results
02:13that prove our commitment to excellence. This is how institutions earn their place in history.
02:20And this is the path WASA is determined to follow.
