Transcript
00:00My name is Ben Mallinson and I'm the principal of the Ruth Gorse Academy here in Leeds.
00:04Today is a culmination of months, if not years, of hard work for the students
00:08and for us it's fantastic to share in their joy and the euphoria of the day
00:12and it's exciting for us as much as it is for the students themselves.
00:15I got a nine in biology, chemistry, physics, maths, further maths, English language, business and geography
00:28and there was one more I can't remember.
00:31My career goal is to become a dentist so I've picked all my subjects in college to match that.
00:37I got a nine in maths and six in English and everything else was seven or eight
00:42and I got a nine in beta sports as well and I was really really happy with those results.
00:48I'm following my route to basketball so I'm going to a basketball academy, Allerton High School, sixth form
00:53and I'm going to go there to study maths and physics
00:57and I'm going to do sports as well.
00:59We know that the exams are just one element of a student's success in terms of their time with us at the academy
01:04and for us it's brilliant to see them enjoying the fruits of their labour
01:08and how hard they've worked and hopefully going on to a destination of choice.
01:12It was very stressful at the start of the exams and then I kind of got into the routine of it.
01:17It was still a bit stressful there and then knowing what's on the paper and what's not
01:21but then once what's on the paper I smashed it. I did very well and very pleased with myself.
01:27It's also important to acknowledge the support of our families and of the incredible staff members
01:32that go above and beyond to make sure that students are hopefully going on to that destination of choice
01:37and I just want to take that opportunity to thank our families in particular for their support over the last five years for the academy.
01:43Thanks for the academy.
