00:13recalled how flames spread with terrifying speed.

00:17I was scared, I was scared.

00:19We came to the ferry station,

00:21and I heard everything burning and I said to myself,

00:24I'm not going home, I'm scared.

00:26I couldn't explain it.

00:30It was what it was, I couldn't explain it.

00:33I looked down and saw the ferry all in flames.

00:43Authorities confirmed a third death since late July,

00:46as extreme heat and drought continue to fuel the blazes.

00:49So far, the fires have scorched about 274,000 hectares,

00:54nearly triple the annual average recorded between 2006 and 2024.

00:59It is the worst year for forest fires in Portugal since 2017,

01:04when two devastating blazes in June and October

01:07killed more than 100 people in the central region.
