A fairly cloudy afternoon across the UK, but the cloud will break up at times to allow some brightness, with the best of sunshine across southwestern England and northeastern Scotland. Cloud can be thick enough for some rain and drizzle, particularly across the Pennines, Northern Ireland and the western fringes of Scotland. Feeling cool under the cloud. - This is the Met Office UK weather forecast for the afternoon of 23/08/2025. Bringing you today’s forecast is Greg Dewhurst.

00:00Hello there, welcome to your Saturday afternoon forecast from the Met Office and high pressures dominating this weekend, a bank holiday weekend for much of the UK, meaning lots of dry weather to come.
00:11There will be some rain in the forecast, we'll come on to the details for that in a moment.
00:16And then as the weekend goes on, the winds turn southerly thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Erin slowly approaching the UK and it allows temperatures to rise further.
00:24But this is a sign of things to come as we move through next week, an increasing chance of some much needed rain across parts of the UK.
00:33It's a fairly cloudy afternoon across the UK for Saturday, we've got lots of grey skies out there.
00:39The best of some glimmers of sunshine will be across southwestern parts of the UK and also perhaps across northeast Scotland.
00:45But the clouds should break up at times to allow a little bit of brightness, but also thick enough at times of some light rain and drizzle,
00:51particularly across the Pennines, across into Northern Ireland.
00:54In fact, one or two heavier showers possible here this afternoon and a few splashes of rain across western fringes of Scotland too.
01:01So it will feel fairly cool under the cloud, temperatures struggling at the high teens to low 20s, which is around average for the time of year.
01:09In the best of the sunshine towards the southwest, we could approach 23 or 24 degrees and cool along the east coast like we've seen of recent days too.
01:17As we head through into this evening time, I'm hopeful the cloud will break up a little bit so we could see a few glimmers of brightness before dusk.
01:24And then overnight for much of England and Wales, it stays largely dry.
01:29There'll be some mists and fog patches forming in places.
01:31The cloud could be thick enough for some light rain and drizzle along the eastern coast.
01:35And then a weak weather front does push across Northern Ireland into western Scotland through the early hours to give some splashes of rain here.
01:41And generally, it won't be as cool tonight, temperatures 14, 15 Celsius, perhaps just a little lower way.
01:49We've got the clearest skies across southwest England.
01:51We could see single-figure temperatures here.
01:54So less of a fresh start tomorrow morning.
01:57Some brighter sunny spells around, though cloud thick enough for some light rain and drizzle.
02:01We've got the rain across western Scotland.
02:02This only very slowly through the day pushes a little further north and eastwards, a few heavier bursts possible.
02:08But overall, through Sunday, there should be a better chance of seeing some sunshine.
02:13The sunshine will be hazy at times.
02:15And there will be quite a lot of cloud around.
02:17So it will come and go, not wall-to-wall sunshine.
02:20But with just a bit more brightness around, a bit more sunshine, it should just feel a bit warmer.
02:24Temperatures higher, a bit more widely getting into the low to mid-20s, 25, 26 Celsius possible across central southern parts.
02:32And generally, across the northwest here, where it stays cloudy, are the high teens to low 20s.
02:38So for most of us, a better-feeling day on Sunday.
02:42Into the evening time, cloud melts away once more.
02:45We see some mist and fog patches forming overnight, taking us into Monday.
02:49But high pressure generally holding on.
02:51So Monday, we should, again, see plenty of sunny spells, if not more sunshine across England and Wales.
02:57And this will boost temperatures further, 27, 28 Celsius possible.
03:01For those on a bank holiday, it will be a lovely day to come.
03:05But as I mentioned, sort of the increasing chance of some rain moving in as we move through the rest of the week.

03:14See you again later.
