At a town hall in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday, Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX) criticized President Trump’s tax rollbacks on tipped wages and Social Security.
00:00Just with the no taxes on tips, it doesn't cover back of the house, some of the people who, you know, the people who are cleaning the floors, cleaning the bathrooms, you know, doing the cooking.
00:11It is so inequitable. It's a good start, but frankly, we just need a rewrite of the whole tax code, and we need to help people, we need to fix what is a very great dichotomy.
00:23Does this chip away at that for a little bit? It does for a little bit, but for a temporary period of time.
00:29The other one is, and the president says there's no tax on Social Security. No, that's not true.
00:36But there's also temporary a tax deduction for people over the age of, I think it's 60.
00:46That also is temporary, but it will help, I would say, take advantage of any of the provisions that will help you,
00:54but just know that those that, that, the very few provisions, those are the two that help people who are struggling the most.
