Donald Trump Claims Tariffs Caused US Markets To Rise And Ended Military Conflicts Around The World

At an executive order signing event at the Oval Office on Monday, President Trump was asked about the impacts of his tariffs.

00:00So, as you know, the stock market went up almost 1,000 points on Friday.

00:05And it went up not because of this very, I think, terrible.

00:11Hello.

00:12Who is that back there?

00:14Get out of the room.

00:16It went up because of something much different.

00:20It went up because it was announced, CBO announced the numbers.

00:24And, as you know, they gave no credit to tariffs.

00:28They said they made a mistake.

00:30That the trade deficit will be reduced because of Trump's tariffs will be reduced by $4 trillion.

00:38Right?

00:39Is that what they said?

00:40Right?

00:41They said $4 trillion.

00:42And the market went up like a rocket ship because the tariffs are good.

00:46Well, tariffs aren't that usual.

00:48The seven wars I stopped, four of them were because of the fact that I had tariffs and trade.

00:56And I was able to say, well, if you do this, if you go fight and you want to kill everybody, that's okay.

01:02But I'm going to charge you each 100% tariff when you trade with us.

01:06You know what?

01:07They all gave up.

01:08I stopped seven wars.

01:11Numerous of them was because of tariffs.

01:12So, you know, you never knew the word tariff.

01:15It didn't exist really, essentially, in this country until actually in the 1870s up until 1913 it existed.

01:24And we were the richest country.

01:25We were richer then, proportionately, than at any time in the history of our country.

01:30And then, stupidly, in 1913 they said, let's go to the income tax way of life.

01:37Let the people pay instead of foreign countries.

01:39No.

01:40We're taking in trillions of dollars in tariffs and we're stopping wars because of tariffs.

01:45So, that's not so normal either.

01:49But, you know what?

01:50Other countries did it to us and now we're doing it to other countries.
