The stallions at Airdrie Stud have been represented by three TDN Rising Stars in Saratoga. Intricate Spirit, by Complexity, won on the turf for Miguel Clement. In the Chad Brown barn, Rising Stars include Ornellaia, by Girvin, and Deep Learning, by Cairo Prince. Here the two trainers tell us what's in store for the promising youngsters.

00:00Intricate spirits, he came to us, we followed him all winter long, he was at Kinsman Farm,
00:13and an exciting type, a great hind leg, that's what really stuck out. He always showed a lot
00:19of speed, plenty of toe, and as a result, we thought to try the different surface,
00:24which is the grass, which just turned out to be the winning ingredient. He broke very well,
00:28showed a lot of speed early. Joel was always motionless, the rest of the field were all
00:32being sent hard, and he was able to be forwardly placed, sitting right next to the leader. My
00:36only instruction was, he's got a tremendous amount of speed, just make sure you keep something for
00:40the quarter pole wire, and then when he asked him a bit, he instantly accelerated, and it was impressive.
00:46You don't see that often in cheerleaders to win by open lengths, especially at Saratoga.
00:50Intricate spirit, in complete command, scoring by four lengths.
00:55Hopefully, if all goes well, you have two races between now and the Breeders' Cup.
00:58One would be at Kentucky Downs, he'll be stepping up in Tripp, and the course will be a bit tougher,
01:03and stiffer. Nevertheless, he's a good horse. Complexity is a very good sign, and he's probably,
01:09you know, not typical of most of them, but he's got a great hind leg, like similar to most of them,
01:13and he's actually a turf sprinter at the moment, so we'll see.
01:16Onalaya is just a remarkable-looking horse. Really excellent conformation, a good-sized,
01:26beautiful filly. She came in highly regarded from the Best Clifton Sale in Maryland, and she
01:31really never missed a day. She came in here and trained super right off the bat and was impressive,
01:35and moving through her works nicely, and I was just concerned at the start when she didn't get
01:39away from the gate well, and she fell far back, but she showed her overall immense ability,
01:46and a lot of heart, and a lot of poise for a horse that's never run before to win first amount.
01:50Onalaya salute wins with style.
01:57It reminded me of a female version of Chance McPatrick last year. It really did the same thing,
02:00got tangled up at the start and came running, so I'm going to run the spin away, and you know,
02:05there's some other nice fillies that broke their maidenhead this summer, so it'll be quite an
02:09interesting race, but she's one of the ones, I think. I haven't had many Gervins, only a couple,
02:14but the ones I've had have trained very solid, exclusively on the dirt, the ones I've had.
02:20Very consistent horses, and seem to have a wide range in distances they can run.
02:27So deep learning I actually picked up at the two-year-old training sale, and another really nice
02:32horse was bred and race at Delridge Farm, which I really like. We bought her and brought her into
02:37the stable, and I'll tell you, she trained great right from the start. Identified herself as a turf
02:41horse early on, but in a good way. Good turn of foot. We expected a lot in her debut, and she delivered.
02:47You know, I thought that she showed a lot of patience and a lot of maturity that first start to sit
02:53inside of horses and wait, and wait for the commands of the rider, and then accelerated when asked.
02:59Coming swiftly to inhale the top pair, and what a promising debut for deep learning.
03:07I'll probably wait to run her in the Miss Grillo. I've had a lot of luck in that race as a prep for
03:11the Breeders' Cup, right down in Aqueduct. Just have to go for good weather. Cairo Prince has been good
03:16to us. I had a filly on the dirt named Merle Charlotte that was a grade two winner. Very versatile
03:21stallion. I think a great value sire, as I'd put him. I always, if I like horses at the two-year-old sales
03:27by him or at the yearling sales, I always leave them on.
