Theft of Toyotas is getting out of control at the moment with thefts of HiLux, Camry, Corolla, LandCruiser and LandCruiser Prado reaching all time highs. We were sent this footage from a viewer who had his Camry stolen from his house. The thieves didn't know there was a dashcam running the entire time. We tracked their movements and how they moved to their next victim.

00:00They then seem to find some kind of a tutorial on the internet because they come back around to
00:04have a look under the car and what you'll notice here is that again amateur hour he's taking his
00:08gloves off put fingerprints all over the car. G'day I'm Paul we've been covering the the car
00:15theft epidemic here in Australia and specifically in Victoria first it was stolen classic Australian
00:20cars then these thieves have moved on to Toyotas and we've already covered a Toyota video you can
00:26watch our Holden video as well there's links in the description below. Today I want to run
00:29through some footage that we were sent from one of our viewers of his stolen car they stole his Camry
00:36and these knuckleheads didn't realize there was a dash cam running the entire time I'm going to show
00:40you the footage of their several hours in the car what they did then we're going to talk about the
00:45method they're now using to steal brand new Toyotas that is 250 series Prado 300 series Land Cruiser
00:51and it's a brand new method that we haven't seen used before so let's kick off with this a big shout
00:56out to Dudu one of our viewers who set this through he went through the fairly traumatic experience of
01:03having his car stolen it was parked out front of his house we're going to blur a fair bit of stuff here
01:08because it'll identify where his house is I'm also going to blur images of the kids and I say kids
01:14because when you look at the video of these people they are maybe 13 or 14 years old and they still have
01:21time to fix themselves I don't want to be showing their faces if they have been caught and they're
01:26they're going to get fixed but I will run you through what they did and some of the just absolutely
01:30dumb stuff that they did okay so I'm going to kick off with this this is when his car was initially
01:36stolen the dash cam fires up at around midnight and what they did here was they used the method that
01:42we talked about in our last video where they're smashing a quarter panel window to get access to the
01:47OBD port then they're using that cheap tool that they have off marketplace that allows them to
01:53clone new keys for the car start the car and drive off immediately now the thing that helped recover
01:59this particular car is Toyota connected services so that is the service that allows you to connect your
02:04phone to the car and track its location but that is unfortunately a thing that has now been defeated
02:11and I'll explain that a little bit later on so they set off in his car and they hopped inside
02:17and immediately left the area what you'll notice is throughout the several hours of footage that
02:23we've now gone through the entire time they're looking for other Toyotas to steal and they rock up
02:29here to like a community center of some sort and throughout the entire video these guys are actually
02:35driving very sensibly because they obviously don't want to to arouse suspicion and what they do here is
02:42they rock up to this community center park very nicely and gently and then they start going around
02:47the car and removing identifying things off it so they according to to doodoo they took all of the
02:53the hybrid badges off the car it's a newer Camry so it has the newer hybrid badges on it that is just
02:59in case anyone did spot it on the road they'd be able to basically remove those badges they would
03:03also now be looking for cloned plates a plate that they're able to attach to this car so you can't
03:09immediately spot it when it's out on the road throughout this entire thing they had absolutely
03:13no idea that a dash cam was running this bit of footage is hilarious because
03:18these two Muppets don't know how to open the bonnet so they go back and forth with each other
03:24and then they sit here for a little while trying to figure out how to open the bonnet so they've just
03:29popped it there and then comically they just don't know how to open it I mean it is just the height of
03:37you know it just shows you that these guys have no clue what they're doing
03:40there's a big difference here between the amateurs like these guys that are stealing these cars to faff
03:44around in and the professionals who are using them for for armed robberies and other things
03:49so they literally spent like minutes here trying to figure out how to open the bonnet
03:53and then finally they crack it open after a lot of faffing there it is what the brains trust is now
04:00doing is trying to find the cables for the gps unit that toyota uses to communicate remotely so that
04:06is always powered because you want to be able to always check the location of the car
04:09and they spend quite some time doing this you'll notice there they've got gloves on in the background
04:13they faff around sort of looking for quite some time eventually they don't find what they're looking
04:19for close the bonnet and then it's time for for selfie time and for for instagram fame so you'll see
04:26one of the guys come back around here where he he comes around and he's got his phone out he's got
04:32snapchat open he's taken a snap of the car there he wants to show off to his mates that he has
04:37managed to to steal the car then his other mate comes around obviously taking a video he gets his
04:44little sign out puts his fingers in front like the big man that he is they then seem to find some kind
04:51of a tutorial on the internet because they come back around to have a look under the car and what
04:54you'll notice here is that again amateur hour he's taking his gloves off put fingerprints all over the
04:59car and is now looking for whatever they've found on the internet that's likely to tell them where
05:04this this modem is or whatever the device is that allows the vehicle to communicate externally
05:09obviously they didn't find it because the owner of the vehicle was still able to track this when
05:14he realized that it was missing clear shot of old mate's face there that obviously we've blurred
05:18um just so you know as well the owner of this car has actually given this footage to the police
05:23and the police apparently know who these people are they're they're known to them um and i thought i'd
05:28show you this as well just to give you an idea of how bad they are at driving so
05:31um obviously most people drive in their lane these guys are driving at a high rate of speed on on a
05:37back road here you can see the car bouncing around everywhere but you just have a look at how they
05:41take this corner up ahead here it's quite a sharp bend they've obviously tipped this front wheel drive
05:46camry in at pace and then it's just understeered and corrected um so yeah they're not exactly good
05:51drivers so anyway a little bit more time elapses another hour or so then this is where things get
05:57interesting so see that rav4 just there uh these guys are now trawling the streets of southeast
06:02melbourne looking for another car uh doo doo told us that his car was low on fuel so i think these
06:07guys a would have realized that the car's connected to the internet and they weren't able to disable
06:11the tracker and b it was running out of fuel so it means you're either going to do a fuel runoff and
06:15get the police on your tail or you just go find another toyota which again are very easy to steal
06:20using this cheap device off the internet throughout the video in fact they actually rocked up to a hotel
06:25where a white rav4 was parked in the car park and they they tried to get into that but for whatever
06:30reason they they gave up on that see there's another rav4 there and another one on the other
06:35side of the road with some sign writing on it so they've got their hearts set on that white rav4 so
06:39you can see here they pull up now the one thing they won't have noticed that we did notice when we
06:44played the footage back you can see the light on at that house in that top corner so at this point
06:48it's sort of two in the morning um that light wasn't on when they drove past the first time so now
06:54they're getting out of the car to go and steal that car uh you'll notice that that light on the
06:58house switches off and he walks past just as it switches off and realizes that someone is in fact
07:05either awake or at home and he then immediately doubles back so you can see him come past now
07:12realizes that light has has turned off there's obviously someone that's either walked outside or
07:16something's happened you can see that device in his right hand as well which is the device they're using
07:21to steal these cars readily available off the internet and for cheap and they give up on
07:26stealing that rav4 unfortunately they drive around a little bit longer and they find that blue rav4 just
07:32there on the right hand side they then pull in doodoo's camry park it right here and they hop out and
07:39you'll see them just sort of lurking over there they then basically come back and they steal that blue rav4
07:45which is then taken um and we don't know yet whether that car has been recovered or not uh
07:50doodoo because he had the gps device running in his car he was able to then uh the next day find his
07:57car and go and pick it up unfortunately there was a wait on that quarter panel window so he had a long
08:01time to wait for that so that is an indication of what they're doing with these stolen cars now these
08:05are the the amateurs the more serious criminals though uh basically keen to run from the police
08:11they're using these in organized crime and this is an example of one horrific situation that we had
08:17here in melbourne where one of these absolute dipshits is all you can call them drove a 200 series land
08:25cruiser through a shopping center while it was open uh narrowly missing people thankfully this wasn't a
08:30busy shopping center and he didn't hit anyone but this is the lengths they are going to to get away
08:36from the police where they're risking the life of everyone potentially going to kill you while you're
08:41at the shopping center so this was uh quite a high risk situation and police uh obviously acted
08:47accordingly to to to try and and stop this person they did finally catch up with them days later but
08:53that is some pretty scary stuff and it leads me to this next video uh which is courtesy of seven news
08:58basically a family that uh found their stolen commodore and it drove past them after it had been
09:05stolen and they gave chase these criminals were using a decoy vehicle a subaru wrx sti you can see
09:12it just there so basically the sti would follow the commodore and they would basically go in opposite
09:17directions so that they would move away from each other the big issue here is that yeah you've seen
09:23your car which is great you want to try and catch up to it it is your your pride and joy totally
09:28understand that but when you're driving whatever you're driving which appears to be
09:31a four-wheel drive of some sort high center of gravity you're then putting other road users at
09:37risk to catch these guys i understand the police have their hands tied and they they probably can't
09:42catch a lot of these people but just please don't put other road users in danger to try and get your
09:47car you can see here this type of driving is so dangerous and you can end up you know hurting
09:53yourself hurting other people that have nothing to do with any of this and these guys will get away
09:57at all costs they're probably on drugs and in this case are probably linked to some sort of organized
10:02crime wrong way around the roundabout there i mean it's just asking for trouble so if it does happen
10:07call the police it is just a car i understand classics like that can't readily be replaced but
10:12just don't put yourself or others at risk because these idiots are driving through shopping centers
10:15they're driving like absolute maniacs to get away and i just don't want anyone getting hurt there so
10:21now that leads me to our next video which we're working on at the moment
10:24there is a new method these guys are using so going out the window is that device the cheap
10:30device they're getting off the internet because it requires you to smash a window it makes a fair
10:34bit of noise and it doesn't really disable the connected features that toyota's have
10:39the new method they're using completely bypasses all of that it disables Toyota connected services
10:45you cannot track the car owners literally lose access to their car immediately they don't need the
10:50keys and they can get away very easily in a matter of minutes with this device so
10:54working on that at the moment waiting on some vision to come through then we're going to publish
10:57another video we call on Toyota again to do more to help owners of these cars you should not be
11:03expected as an owner of a Toyota to go spend another 1500 bucks or two grand to get an immobilizer
11:08to do what your car should be doing at the moment if Toyota knows about this and they certainly know
11:13about this other method we'll be talking about in the other video because it was revealed a couple of
11:17years ago they've had a couple of years to get this fixed that applies to 300 series 250 series Prado
11:23they are able to steal these cars in minutes there are literally hundreds of thousands of Toyotas
11:28that are affected by this by this very simple hack so thank you for watching please do share this video
11:35because people need to know what is happening with these cars you need to invest in things like dash
11:40cams and GPS trackers and immobilizers to keep your car safe especially if you park it on the road
11:45these guys are just driving around all night it is only a matter of time before your car gets stolen and
11:50even more so if it's a Toyota that is just going to blend into traffic thank you again for watching
11:55and keep an eye out for our other video make sure you've subscribed but until next time stay safe
