00:00And a woman is recognized for one minute. Mr. Speaker, I rise today in defiance of President
00:05Trump's threats to deploy the National Guard to Chicago. He wasted $1 million every day to house
00:11the National Guard in D.C. And now he wants to further misuse taxpayer dollars instead of
00:16investing in real permanent solutions to gun violence. Like D.C., I'm sure Chicago can use
00:22money for more police, mental health counselors, social workers, and community violence intervention
00:27programs. President Trump is actively making gun violence worse. He froze funding allocated to
00:33community violence intervention organizations, shut down the Office of Violence and shut down
00:38the Office of Violence Prevention and made it easier to buy guns. Gun violence is a public health issue,
00:44but the CDC has been stripped of medical experts and leaders. Let's be truthful about the real
00:51reason why President Trump wants to deploy the National Guard to Chicago. It's not to reduce crime.
00:57It's to instill fear and abuse his power. I yield back.
