00:14hello I'm Adam Hayling from parts fun known and welcome to Adam books Jericho

00:23before Y2J became a 2w he had a long-running and hugely successful career in WWE becoming a

00:34multiple-time world champion but still one of his biggest accolades was becoming the first man in

00:40wrestling history to unify the two biggest titles in Western wrestling combining the WCW and WWF

00:48titles to become the first ever undisputed champion and bizarrely such a huge honor goes down in

00:56history as one of the biggest missed opportunities of Jericho's career in 2001 Jericho was an ever

01:03popular charismatic asshole face you know like everyone was back then wasn't everyone mean back

01:11then but he'd never won the big one the closest he'd ever come to winning a world title was on

01:15Raw in 2000 as a result of an Earl Hebner fast count before Jericho immediately was told to

01:20hand the title back to Triple H like a schoolboy being told to turn in some stolen pogs you know

01:26remember pogs that's what pogs were I'm 30 f***ing four towards the end of the invasion Jericho entered

01:33into a really underrated feud with The Rock over the WCW title Rock told Jericho that he just wasn't

01:39good enough to win the big one culminating at no mercy in a fantastic match that no one really

01:46talks about anymore that saw Jericho very subtly begin a heel turn by capitalizing on interference

01:52gone wrong by Stephanie McMahon and winning the big one but doing so in dubious fashion the breakdown

02:00on the chair do you remember the breakdown it's a skull crushing finale you had it for a bit seriously

02:06that post-match bit where The Rock hands Jericho the steel chair that he used to secure the victory

02:11as a way of congratulating him on his title win while both men still technically being faced

02:15chef's kiss I love that then Jericho lost the title 15 days later on Raw because it was the invasion

02:21titles meant precisely bulls*** during those sad months but at least it gave him a window to turn

02:27fully and officially heel on the people's champion after the invasion pissed off forever at Survivor Series

02:33the title situation was cleared up at vengeance in a mini tournament and Adam loves himself a

02:39tournament of any shape and size he he ho ho which would unify the world titles and saw Jericho

02:45shock the system and the world by becoming undisputed champion albeit in one of the most overbooked main

02:55events of the Attitude era actually that's a no that's a ludicrously high bar there was interference

03:00for both Vince McMahon Booker T and that is sort of how Jericho's title run came to be defined he very

03:06rarely actually made any strong heel decisions himself instead he just sort of existed as champion

03:13while everyone else feuded around him seriously as heel champion almost every time he put the title on

03:20the line against someone he only retained because he was the spare part in someone else's feud he defended

03:26the belts in a steel cage next night on Raw and only won thanks to Booker T because Booker T and Austin

03:32were feuding he defended it against RVD on Raw with Ric Flair as a special guest ref and only won because

03:38Vince got involved because Vince and Ric Flair were feuding into the Rumble he beat The Rock at the Rumble

03:45to be fair cheated you know that was that was actually good because again the Rock Jericho feud was

03:51secretly brilliant and we don't really talk about it that much anymore he defended against Austin at

03:56No Way Out but only retained because the NWO got involved because the NWO and Austin were feuding and

04:03then infamously his Wrestlemania feud his Wrestlemania feud as the most important champion in the entire

04:12industry apparently he essentially played a bit part in a soap opera divorce because Triple H and Stephanie

04:18McMahon were feuding baby Maven clean on Raw that's something who's more fearsome than Maven

04:26so Triple H and Steph were fighting all the time and to get Triple H to renew their wedding vows Steph

04:32lied and said she was preggers which she was not pregante ending with Tripp's announcing in the

04:38classic vows renewal ceremony on Raw our marriage is over and then Steph went

04:45it genuinely turned into a sitcom after that point Triple H giving Stephanie half a car Triple H

04:53messing with Steph's skin cream yuck yuck yuck on February 21st Jericho and Steph joined forces

04:59officially throwing away their long-running feud which I guess that's not terrible delusional heels

05:04getting desperate and saying oh I didn't mean any of those things I said in order to get some semblance

05:09of an advantage but then Jericho became Steph's lackey basically with Nadir being having to walk

05:15Steph and Triple H's dog Lucy after Stephanie kept her in the divorce leading to the dog accidentally

05:21getting run over by Y2J's limo and that's your Wrestlemania feud everybody best bit of the feud was

05:29Jericho bashing Triple H in the quad and making the story about that you know I almost ended your career

05:35and I'm gonna do it again that was good and you know what that angle actually happened on the same

05:39episode as the Lucy dog getting run over stuff so what was the point of nearly killing a dog

05:43wrestling throughout his entire title run almost all of Jericho's matches would end up with him

05:49picking up the cheap victory after his opponent's opponent ran in but like I said

05:54he did beat Maven so Triple H ended up beating Y2J at Wrestlemania 18 x8 I suppose in an underwhelming

06:02match in front of an exhausted crowd who were tired after Rock and Hogan then Y2J didn't get a pay-per-view

06:07rematch because the company caught Hulkamania fever which is a terminal disease giving Hogan a quick

06:13nostalgia title run before realizing ah we may have bed on this one before rushing it back to

06:18Undertaker in a very awful title match at judgment day instead of getting a pay-per-view rematch the

06:23only shot that Jericho got for his undisputed title back was a week after Wrestlemania on Raw against

06:28Triple H and Stephanie in a triple threat match no this actually happened Steph almost pinned Jericho

06:33to become WWF champion yeah that that happened so

06:39people get really worked up about the idea of a weak champion someone who holds the belt but doesn't

06:48deserve to and never wins clean like if they're a babyface champion sure when Rey Mysterio was

06:54world heavyweight champion might have been nicely let him have a win or two there's nothing wrong

06:59with a chicken weasel champion someone who is eminently beatable Ric Flair made an art out of

07:05it in the NWA as long as the heel has actual agency in how they come out on top WWE constantly book

07:12their chicken to accidentally win as a result of weird rules snafus rather than cheating it is very

07:19weird you can have Jericho as a quote weak champion but have his gimmick be intelligence manipulation

07:25rather than you know a little baby boy who just pouts throws tantrums all the time and only retains

07:32his championship because of outside interference that he lucked into like a little baby boy like a

07:36little baby poo bum piss boy so you should keep all the stuff with the rock that plays into where

07:42I'm going nicely Jericho realizing he could only win the big one with his wits not necessarily his

07:48wrestling ability his ability to take advantage of a situation sort of like an actual version of the

07:53ultimate opportunist gimmick vengeance 2001 and we are at the tournament to crown the first ever

08:00undisputed champion all champions have been stripped of their titles rock and austin both cleared of the

08:07belts and while the same wrestlers are in the tournament angle Jericho rock and austin the brackets

08:12different Jericho is going to face angle and rock is going to face austin the reason being that you

08:17can now market the show off the back of rock versus austin business business numbers numbers so the show

08:23opens thanks to favoritism with Jericho versus angle Jericho and angle are on first the match starts

08:30and almost immediately as soon as the match has begun about five minutes in maybe christian walks down to

08:35the ring smacks jericho in the face causing a dq jericho advances while barely lifting a finger later

08:42backstage christian is seen counting a thick wad of cash when asked why he did it christian responds i

08:49don't know what came over me i just saw green sorry i mean to say i just saw red smiles walks away

08:57the next tournament match is much later in the night because obviously evil vince would book the two

09:01biggest faces against each other with less time to rest before the main event on the way out to the

09:06ring austin comes out but jericho rushes out behind him and attacks stone cold from behind with a steel

09:11chair repeatedly smashes his ridge over and over again how about you snake before the match starts

09:17and then jericho scarpers so rock versus austin austin is clearly in a bad way but gutting it out

09:23through the pain towards the end of the match jericho comes out and he trips rock during the people's

09:28elbow rock turns into a stone cold stunner austin wins for jericho once again clatters him with a

09:35steel chair further damaging austin's ribs and back the main event begins jericho is fresh as a daisy

09:40austin is exhausted and injured and jericho has sort of helped him get to the final jericho repeatedly

09:46targets austin's ribs back dropping him onto the outside etc to the point where austin can barely stand

09:51jericho locks him in the walls of jericho and in a mirror of mania 13 austin passes out from the pain

09:58jericho becomes the first ever undisputed champion the next night on raw jericho basically outlines his

10:05new gimmick which is that he is the mastermind he's smarter than everyone else on the roster and last

10:12night he proved it repeated segments backstage of jericho proving that he's smart playing chess

10:20against himself in the mirror that is what smart people do play chess talks to booker t backstage telling

10:26him booker you need to make a name for yourself since the alliance fell look at me says jericho i

10:30came out and i challenged the rock on my first night in the company sometimes you just need to go after

10:36the biggest badass in the locker room that's how you make people respect you main event of raw cage match

10:41jericho versus austin booker t interferes like he did in real life but this time there's an element that

10:47he was manipulated into it by jericho again just give y2j just a tiny bit of like he has any impact

10:54on the story it goes a hugely long way have the champion direct the story rather than getting

11:00lost in it simple things but your brain notices this stuff when it comes to storytelling lead up

11:05to the royal rumble number one contenders match rock versus angle jericho comes out sits at the top of

11:10the ramp studying his opponents making note rock wins jericho versus rock is set in at royal rumble

11:17now jericho tells rock you know what rock like you told me i can be i can be honest i think you are

11:22better than me rock i do but i'm smarter than you and the truth is at royal rumble i'm not gonna beat

11:31you you are gonna beat you on christmas eve 2001 raw emanates from miami florida and that's actually

11:39true look at it it actually did jericho talks about how christmas is a time for togetherness a time

11:45for family jericho is wrestling a match and spots the rock's mother at ringside because it's miami the

11:51rock's hometown kind of jericho goes to ringside and slaps at a johnson his plan is to enrage the

11:59rock have him not thinking straight he takes to the ring talks about how good it was to see a bruise

12:03start to form on the rock's mother's face rock runs down jericho maces him from with hidden mace

12:09takes a lead pipe and busts the rock's right arm with the pipe that is my left arm this is my right

12:17royal rumble 2002 jericho versus rock jericho keeps targeting the rock's arm rock goes for the

12:24rock bottom but his arm gives out rock goes for the people's elbow but the agony he feels after

12:28hitting it it takes him too long to go for the cover he can't hold in his terrible sharpshooter

12:34jericho brings a chair into the ring and throws it at the rock's feet reminds him what he did to the

12:39rock's mother telling him to hit me hit me rock hit me jr screaming don't do it rock think of the

12:45title rock don't throw it all the way rock throws the chair to one side and while the ref is clearing

12:51it from the ring jericho hits rock once more with a hidden pipe hits the lion's salt one two three

12:58mastermind strikes again in the royal rumble match as in real life the game wins one important thing

13:03to note though pretty much everything about the game's return is the same apart from one crucial

13:07thing steph turns face and sides with her husband no ifs and or but now i know this means we lose the

13:16marriage renewal ceremony when we lose the divorce i know that's classic raw stuff it sucks to see it go

13:22but i'm going somewhere with this also steph was faced like months later when she became smackdown gm so

13:28austin after dealing with booker t sets his sight on the undisputed championship going into no way out but

13:33rock's not done with jericho main event of no way out is set austin versus rock versus jericho in a

13:39triple threat throughout the build jericho acts as master manipulator between rock and austin even

13:44though both men hate jericho so much the mastermind keeps stirring the pot reminding rock of what

13:49austin did to a mania x7 rock and jericho are brawling backstage jericho rushes to austin's truck rock

13:55grabs a pipe to hit jericho misses and hits austin's windscreen smashes it in austin goes mental brutalizes

14:02rock jericho is constantly just pulling the strings turning people against each other he's

14:07still a chicken heel champion picking up cheap wins that he doesn't necessarily deserve but he's not

14:12an afterthought he's the story that's the important thing no way out 2002 jericho versus rock versus

14:19austin jericho spends as little time in the ring as possible constantly pitting austin and rock against

14:25each other rushing in hitting with his pipe rushing away until austin and rock finally joined forces to

14:30kick the out of him but neither man will let the other pin him austin finally manages to hit rock

14:37with the stunner jericho throws austin out of the ring pins rock to retain the championship walks away

14:42tapping his head austin rolls out the ring catches up to jericho is about to batter him but that's when

14:47the nwo attack going after rock and austin the final five minutes of the pay-per-view being the nwo

14:54executing a protracted beatdown on the two biggest faces in the company then this leads to austin feuding

15:01with them and rock as well finally we move on to wrestlemania x8 i suppose the storyline being

15:07triple h versus jericho the mastermind versus the cerebral assassin a holmes versus moriarty battle of

15:16wits you can't play me at this game i am the game i'm the game and are you playing i am the game

15:23and are you gaming play the game you gotta play it i am the game and i am the game jericho immediately

15:30goes after triple h's quad because yes that's a perfect story it should be introduced straight

15:36away please you don't need dogs you i mean not in not in this wrestling angle we we need dogs here is a

15:44dog i love that dog jericho hits triple h's leg with a sledgehammer is gonna strike triple h's leg again

15:52when stephanie comes out to plead with jericho to stop jericho looks at steph says interesting

15:59and walks away steph does become a part of the feud but as opposed to being triple h's primary

16:05antagonist and jericho essentially as her colorful shirted henchman she's essentially triple h's

16:10manager and someone that jericho can use to keep the game office yay also this way you can keep jericho's

16:18years-long feud with stephanie intact but switch the alignments isn't that nice jericho goes to trash

16:25triple h's dressing room ruin all his gear so that he can't wrestle that night turns out the triple h

16:30switched the dressing room signs with the apa who walk in and batter the champ little bits of

16:35mental one-upsmanship like that you know both men trying to outsmart the other jericho invites

16:40triple h down to the ring to play him at a game of chess surrounded by security guards now some of you

16:47will notice that i actually use this bit of booking in cbw as well you should check out cbw it's pace

16:54and i'm reusing it here because i think it's very fun and i'm very clever indeed jericho and the game

17:01cut promo over the chessboard jericho talking about triple h's injured quad talks about how he's always

17:08four moves ahead for example let's say jericho says let's say someone paid off these security guards

17:15and when someone says jericho says one little word they'll kick triple h's ass interesting says

17:20triple h but imagine if someone else someone who'd been on top of this company for a bit longer had a

17:26bit more in the bank let's say got to those guards paid them double what you did what do you think

17:33would happen then jericho turns white maybe says triple h when that one person says one little word

17:39like i don't know checkmate the security guards rush jericho leave him laying in the ring triple

17:47h says you're not the only one who can play games you dumb son of a bitch on the go home raw jericho

17:54takes it up a notch and finally gets physical with steph dd tease her knocks her out cold triple h is

18:00beside himself and jericho uses this rage to once again go for his quad while he's distracted on smackdown

18:08the last show before mania vince mcmahon confronts jericho smartest guy in the room huh you just made

18:13the biggest mistake of your life pow triple h isn't here he's home taking care of my daughter but you

18:19can bet he's gonna be at wrestlemania and i've decided to make a little change to the match now

18:24it's gonna be no holds barred jericho smiles exactly what you wanted we get to wrestlemania xa and let's

18:34be honest this this bit here is with the benefit of hindsight if to be honest if i'd actually booked

18:39this angle in real time i would have put the undisputed title match on last too because honestly

18:44it's two world championships i would have probably put it on last but with hindsight knowing that the

18:50rock versus hogan match completely destroyed the crowd in the main event just have the undisputed

18:56match as a semi-main it's fine also and i can't believe wwe did this have an actual video package for

19:03it please i'm not saying that it killed the match single handedly but saliva or whatever they're

19:09called doing a bad version of their song over a video slideshow that people could only half see

19:15because of the tron that sucks it's nowhere near as effective of pumping up the crowd in the audience

19:20at home the grand operatic video package what the what the wwe you playing at i don't care about

19:29nobody else but me did saliva do that song was it why am i thinking the word rancid i don't know

19:39simon who did the song just put it on screen there you go fact checked anyway big story of the match

19:44is that jericho keeps using the no holds barred stipulation to exact punishment after punishment

19:49to triple h's leg jericho grabs some handcuffs and it looks like he's gonna cuff trip's hands behind his

19:55back but triple h handcuffs himself to jericho taps his temple and he beats the holy dog of him

20:02triple h guts through the pain hits jericho with the pedigree wins the championship job done because

20:08it's wrestlemania have the hero overcome the odds it's absolutely fine and then after that what we

20:14need to do is keep jericho in the main event scene for example at backlash instead of putting your top

20:20belt on a man about to turn 50 have a fatal four-way triple h versus jericho versus austin versus

20:27undertaker maybe parlay that into jericho versus austin at judgment day just keep jericho in the

20:33conversation with the rest of your top guys it is as simple as that jericho doesn't need to have a long

20:40title run as a sneaky heel for it to be a good title run just give him your top belts give him a clearly

20:46defined heel gimmick and just let him make plans and execute those plans that way you can still be

20:54weak but he's still making choices choices that can be clearly understood and appreciated by the fans

21:00and that is how i would book jericho's run as undisputed champion do you disagree do you think
