00:01Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, what are you doing?
00:06Do we have to play on the stairs?
00:09Hey.
00:11The whole place is dark.
00:13I always wanted to be a comic since I was a kid.
00:16For 15 years of my life, I used to smoke, I used to drink, I did drugs.
00:19I used to eat lard right out of a can occasionally.
00:22I met Mark in the early 80s.
00:24I was one of a handful of people.
00:27There weren't many who could tolerate him.
00:29I couldn't draw, no matter how many Conans I did,
00:32and that was part of the beginning of the podcast.
00:35What's happening? I'm Mark Maron, this is my podcast.
00:37Yeah, there's that Lou Reed line, I accept the newfound man.
00:40And that is what Mark became.
00:43You started this in your garage, right?
00:46Yes, sir. I have a very short commute to work.
00:48You know, we've all been able to live our dreams as, you know,
00:50mediocre radio personalities on our own terms.
00:53Someone must have set him up.
00:56I have moments where I love myself, I think.
00:59But it's like, you know, what else am I supposed to do?
01:01But talk about fascism and heartache and rip off of life.
01:05I lost a person I loved at the beginning of the pandemic.
01:10I was more comfortable with myself, you know, when I was with her somehow.
01:14I don't know how to talk about some of the stuff that I went through.
01:17I don't even know if it's appropriate to do it.
01:19You know, when do I write a joke?
01:21Yeah.
01:22When does the funny happen?
01:23You know, I'm clearly dealing with grief and sadness by, you know,
01:27overcompensating with anger and funny.
01:29If you don't like my tone, it's a character I'm working on.
01:33It's called me half the time.
01:39I don't think my stand-up ever really kind of, like, breaks the ceiling.
01:43But it's a life of that.
01:46And I'm tired.
01:48I have nothing to lose anymore.
01:50Actually, I have a lot to lose.
01:52Let's do it anyway.
01:54My blood, here comes midnight, with a dead moon in its jaws.
02:02Must be the big star about to fall.
