00:00The Summer I Turned Pretty has returned with Season 3 Episode 9, and following the explosive
00:05wedding that saw Jeremiah walking away from Billy and her seeing Conrad at the airport
00:10whilst on her way to Paris, this episode was all about the aftermath of that and the
00:15question around who it is that she's going to end up choosing.
00:18Well, it turned out that there was actually a third option in all of this, the one she
00:23should have probably chosen at the start, and that was herself.
00:26With an ending that showed which side Billy picked, let's dive into this episode and
00:31break down all that there was to take away from it.
00:34Here is the Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Episode 9 Ending Explained.
00:39Just to let you know, this video will contain spoilers.
00:43Billy.
00:44The big question that we were left with at the end of the previous episode was, is she
00:49going to go up to Conrad at the airport?
00:51And as we saw, she didn't.
00:53She chose to get on that plane to Paris with the hopes of joining the program that she signed
00:58up for, but it didn't go as smoothly as she planned.
01:01When Billy got to Paris, we saw that the school had given up her spot, and she was misinformed
01:06about there being a place available, so it left her roaming the streets of Paris alone
01:10whilst waiting for a flight back to the US.
01:13At this point, Billy's mental state wasn't in a good place because she was fearful of what
01:18everybody would think of her back home, what Jeremiah thought, and what the others at Finch
01:22would think as well.
01:24So, when her bag eventually got stolen, her air tag that was inside of it that fell out
01:29at passport control allowed her to follow it to a rave that was taking place, and she
01:33managed to retrieve it.
01:34She was fixated on getting that bag back because it had the ring that Jeremiah gave her inside
01:39of it, something that she referred to as priceless.
01:42After meeting Gemma, Max, Celine, and Benito, they tried to convince her to stay in Paris,
01:47but she didn't think that she initially would.
01:50However, once speaking with Jeremiah on the phone, and him saying that he wanted her to
01:54go to the house in Cousins so that they could talk things over and pick back up where they
01:57left off, we saw that she made up her mind and decided that she was going to stay in Paris
02:02and focus on herself.
02:04To be honest, this is something that she probably should have done a long time ago, because being
02:09at the centre of this love triangle that tore the family to pieces, being out there is probably
02:14a better option.
02:15However, I don't think that's going to be the end for her.
02:18I think that she's going to realise that Comrade is what she wants, and Comrade will
02:22be her endgame.
02:23There are still two episodes left, and I don't see a world where Belly doesn't end up with
02:28one of the brothers.
02:29Belly said that she doesn't know what her future is, but rebuilding is always possible.
02:34As she said that, she was looking up at Notre Dame, the cathedral that caught fire
02:38in 2019 and was still undergoing construction, which showed that things can be rebuilt, and
02:44in Belly's eyes, that was her.
02:46So I think she's going to be staying in Paris for a while, whilst working out what it is
02:50that she truly wants in life.
02:53Conrad
02:54Is it wrong that I still feel just a little bit bad for Comrade?
02:58I was team Comrade all the way, and even though he was the person that caused the wedding
03:03to go terribly wrong, he was feeling the pain of losing the love of his life and also his
03:07brother.
03:08Conrad didn't know that the wedding was called off because he didn't actually see Belly at
03:12the airport.
03:13It was his father who called him and told him.
03:15As we know, Comrade has a bit of a hero complex and wants to always be the person to save the
03:20day.
03:21So after being told to steer clear of Jeremiah, he waited at the house in Cousins because
03:26he wanted to be there for him when maybe he eventually came around.
03:29But that was something that never happened.
03:32We actually saw Comrade's father being supportive for the first time in the entire show, and
03:37he drew a similarity in the behaviour that he had when he was the problem, and now that
03:41Comrade was the problem.
03:43Saying how he should leave Jeremiah and give him space because he knows that he has people
03:47around him that love him and that will be there to support him, like Comrade had when
03:51his mother was dying and his father wasn't around.
03:54The line of dialogue that stuck out to me most with Comrade was when he said how he knew
03:58that his brother was hurting so much, but there was simply nothing that he could do
04:02about it.
04:03Showing that he couldn't fix this problem because he was the actual problem.
04:07Conrad's arc concluded with him being told by Jeremiah that Belly was in Paris and that
04:11he wanted him to leave Cousins and stay as far away from him as possible.
04:15Showing that in Jeremiah's mind, Conrad was pretty much dead to him.
04:19Conrad packed up his car and it seemed like that was going to be it between him and his
04:23brother, which I feel it will be for a while.
04:26However, with him finding out that Belly is in Paris, I genuinely wouldn't put it past
04:30Comrade to book a flight to Paris and end up meeting up with Belly and confessing his
04:34love to her all over again, but this time in the city of love.
04:39It's cliche, but it would work so well for the show.
04:42All of Belly's friends know the story of Conrad and Jeremiah, so when he shows up,
04:47they'll know exactly how Belly will truly be feeling.
04:49Jeremiah won't like it, but like Conrad said in the previous episode, he wanted Belly
04:54to know that all of that was worth it.
04:56She's all that matters to him, no matter what it costs.
05:00Jeremiah
05:01Now, whilst I did feel sorry for Conrad, I did also feel bad for Jeremiah too.
05:07He was like a lost puppy in this episode and the upset that he had was truly felt through
05:11the screen.
05:12He hadn't heard from Belly and you could see that he was basically waiting by the phone
05:16for her to ring for the entire episode.
05:17Jeremiah and Taylor's interaction was probably the most wholesome one out of the entire episode.
05:23Jeremiah basically mentioned how he couldn't see his life without Belly and that she was
05:27his whole life.
05:29Taylor responded and said, she's not your whole life and if she is, then she shouldn't
05:33be.
05:34This was so true and I feel it kind of connected to that immaturity that we've seen from Jeremiah
05:39throughout the entirety of the season.
05:41He doesn't really have a life outside of Belly.
05:44He didn't want her going to Paris and he only proposed to her to get over the whole
05:47cheating scandal that happened between them.
05:50So Taylor quite literally spoke some truth to him, truth that he needed to hear, but he
05:55didn't take it on board.
05:56When he received the phone call from Belly and she said that she was going to be staying
06:00in Paris after basically saying that he wanted to talk things over and get back with her.
06:05Because it was the news that he didn't want to hear, he told her to stay there and to
06:08never call him again.
06:09I also thought a level of immaturity in the character came when the only time in the episode
06:14where he got dressed was to put on a front to Comrade and to basically tell him that
06:19he knew something that he didn't know about Belly and that she was in Paris.
06:23The fact that he said, she didn't choose me but she didn't pick you either, showed
06:27that living in Comrade's shadow throughout the entirety of his life was something that
06:31was still plaguing him.
06:32And even in this moment, he saw a small victory in the fact that at least Belly wasn't with
06:37him.
06:37Taylor and Steven
06:39To be honest, there's not that much to say about Taylor and Steven other than the
06:44fact that they ended up back together.
06:46The biggest thing for Steven was that he wanted the version of Taylor that had been there for
06:50him the past few days.
06:52The one that was there for her friends and was there for him in a way like she'd never
06:55been before.
06:56And this was something that she promised to do if they got back together.
07:00Taylor is probably the most caring character in the show, so it's interesting that she was
07:04never really able to be like that with Steven.
07:06The both of them said that they loved each other after realising that their relationship
07:10was so much more normal than the love triangle.
07:13They both said that and how they wanted to give it another try, and then they got back
07:17together.
07:18So I am actually really happy about that because if anybody deserved a happy ending in this
07:22show, it was definitely Taylor.
07:24I thought this was a solid episode of the show.
07:29I thought it followed on from the destructive wedding really well, and the fact that it was
07:33over an hour helped with that.
07:35Considering we saw the episode across continents, it didn't impact the storytelling capability
07:40that much, and I thought it was executed in a seamless way.
07:44If I'm being honest, I kind of preferred watching the aftermath of the wedding rather
07:47than Billy being in Paris, but I think that's just because it's a new environment and a new
07:52group of characters, so it might just take an episode to settle in properly.
07:56In terms of the performances, with regards to the whole cast, I think collectively this
08:01could be the best performed episode in the entirety of the season.
08:05I thought Comrade and Jeremiah's emotions were infectious and they were so easy to get
08:08on board with.
08:10Taylor and Steven's story just allowed me to have a big smile on my face because the love
08:14between them was so clear to see, and Billy's conflict was also present too.
08:18I quite liked the fact that for the most part of the episode, the trio were separated and
08:22we got to see how they were dealing with their issues on an individual level.
08:26I think it allowed for the emotions to cut through more and for it to feel a bit more
08:30immersive, rather than just seeing anger and rage between the brothers.
08:34Honestly, I can't believe we've only got two episodes left until the show finishes
08:38for good.
08:39Billy has to make her way back at the end of the next episode, surely.
08:43That will leave a big finale for us to hopefully see who she ends up with, or if she's going
08:48to decide to just stay on her own.
08:51So, there you have it, the Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Episode 9 Ending Explained.
