00:13Tuan Ibrahim's lawyer Yusfarizal Yusof informed the High Court that both parties had agreed to an out-of-court settlement with the suit withdrawn without liberty to file afresh.
00:24Rafizi's lawyer Asha Arman Ali confirmed the agreement which came just before the trial was set to begin this week, originally scheduled for September 8-11 and September 29-30.
00:36In a joint statement, both Tuan Ibrahim and Rafizi said they had decided to move past the misunderstanding in the interests of the public and political stability.
00:45Tuan Ibrahim filed the suit in 2022, accusing Rafizi of defaming him by alleging he had approved a flood mitigation project worth RM2 billion to an UMNO-linked company after Parliament was dissolved.
00:59Rafizi claimed the Sungai Langat Barrier Project was the second major contract awarded to the same company in just six months, raising questions about the approval process.
01:08Tuan Ibrahim denied the claims, saying a caretaker government cannot approve financial allocations, citing a Treasury circular and had challenged Rafizi to report the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
